Iconic Leafs Goals

1967. The last year before the first NHL expansion. Maple Leaf Gardens. Game six, Stanley Cup Finals, Leafs vs. Habs. Leafs leading the series 3 games to 2.

Leafs leading late in third, 2-1 when the Habs pull Gump Worsley for an extra man and Leafs Captain George Armstrong scores the final goal. It was awesome.

Winning the Cup and taking it away from the mighty Habs! The Habs were the number one team in the (6-team) league that year and were heavy favourites to win the cup. It was thought the Leafs would not make the play-offs that year.

That was the year that Montreal staged Expo '67, but they had to ask permission from Leafs management to display the Stanley Cup!!  Sweeeet.

Been a while.... ;)

In the last 30 years, the biggest Leaf goal, without question in my mind is Nic Boreachevsky's Game 7 OT goal against the Wings at Joe Louis Arena....the ban base erupted, pure unmitaged joy after Nic scored that goal. To understand the significance of this goal, you really had to understand how much Leaf fans HATED the Wings in those days....it was a real, dark, deep seeded hatred that went back generations.
