  1. I agree 100%, but not sure how you account for the drop in salary cap? There is probably a way, but I'm too stupid to think of it. My understanding is, that is the reason for the buyouts.
  2. FYI....per the Twitter-verse..Richards has not been informed he is being bought out-yet.
  3. I am pretty sure you can trade an injured player..if the acquiring team is aware of the injury, however you can't buyout an injured player.
  4. This is the cynic in me coming out, but that sentence is Mike Richards...before he signed his huge deal..and got the "C". Kinda scary, isn't it?
  5. FWIW..he would get his full NHL pension. Pretty sure that's NOT as much as the contract.
  6. Not really..if he retires, he doesn't get paid. But the cap hit remains. By staying unretired...he gets paid AND the Flyers get cap relief. Not hammering the guy, just stating the policy.
  7. Capgeek also has Akeson and McGinn with the Flyers. If they are moved to the "A", that's another $1.5 million.
  8. I think one of the two...Coburn or Mez, is probably gone. Coburn is probably the easier to deal, based on contract terms/length. Mez is a UFA after next season, and I don't see much coming back for him. Then again, if it's strictly a cap move(4 million in savings), trade him for what you can get, and use that to add a Dman. While this team needs another scoring winger, the more pressing need is another defenseman, IMO. BTW..Capgeek shows them with $2.9 million in bonuses. They need to account for all that under the cap, even if they don't pay them out. They will also get cap relief on Sept 1, when Pronger moves back to LTIR-or whenever they move him there.
  9. LMAO! For the record, I married a Pittsburgh girl. I also tell her--ALL THE TIME--if she would have been a Penguins fan, we wouldn't be married. She thinks I'm kidding.
  10. So, if there are so many smart people in Pittsburgh, why don't they do the smart thing... and move? KIDDING..I KID...HONESTLY!
  11. My phone still auto corrects to "ducking" "shot", etc, when using colorful words. It's a dumb phone, not a smart phone.
  12. The X-factor that we all seem to ignore/forget about it, is Peter Luukko. WTH is he in all of this???
  13. Canucks have to hold whatever cap space the Flyers don't want...given their cap situation, it makes more sense to just buy him out and get rid of the WHOLE hit.
  14. Hiller AND Bobby Ryan????? C'mon... John Boruk ‏@JohnBorukCSN My gut feeling of who will be the next Flyers goalie: 1. Luongo 2. Thomas 3. Emery 4. Hiller (as part of a trade for Bobby Ryan)
  15. Correct me if I am wrong, but team's can only go 10% over next years cap during the offseason. Dumping Bryz now, may in fact, make it easier for them to sign someone, since they don't have to monkey with cap issues. Granted, they could handshake on it, dump him, and then sign the deal....
  16. I wouldn't mind a short-term deal signed AFTER he is bought out. WTF would the Flyers trade for that contact, 60 mins after getting rid of an equally bad contract? Makes no sense...
  17. He also posted this a few minutes ago: Hockey Buzz Eklund ‏@Eklund20m Flyers are NOT trading for Luongo at this time
  18. I thought about that too, Jam. IMO, I believe the thought is that there will be enough UFA goalies on the market, after the buyouts to allow Homer several choices.
  19. Eklund has lost it..unless he means they get Bobby Loo AFTER he is bought out. Hockey Buzz Eklund ‏@Eklund2m Flyers are officially buying out Bryzgalov. means they have another deal in place....could be Luongo. I am on the plane landing now.
  20. First it was Danny Briere, now it’s Ilya Bryzgalov. The Flyers used the second of their two compliance buyout options today, parting ways with Bryzgalov after just two seasons. “I met with Ilya this morning and informed him that we are going to exercise a compliance buy out of his contract,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “This was a very difficult business decision to make for us and we want to thank Ilya for his time here and wish him all the best moving forward.” Bryzgalov was originally signed to a nine-year, $51 million contract prior to the start of the 2011-12 season. He never lived up to the value of that contract and after two tumultuous seasons with the team, is on the open market. The Flyers will have to pay Bryzgalov two-thirds of the balance owed on his remaining term, or $23 million, but will have twice as long to pay it off. As such, the Flyers will pay Bryzgalov approximately $1.643 million per year for the next 14 years to not play for them. Bryzgalov, 33, never fulfilled his promise in Philadelphia, playing in 99 games for the Flyers going 52-33-10 with a 2.61 goals against average and a .905 save percentage in the regular season. His GAA and save percentage while with the Flyers ranked lower than his career averages of 2.55 and .915 respectively. He also played in 11 playoff games for the Flyers going 5-6 with a 3.46 GAA and an .887 save percentage. The Flyers will save $5.667 million on the cap for each of the next seven seasons by exercising this buyout. Combined with the Briere buyout, the Flyers have saved themselves about $12.17 million against the cap in each of the next two seasons. The Flyers are now out of compliance buyout options. Stay tuned for more on this story throughout the day….
