  1. I have a Philly buddy who works for the Ducks / Prime Ticket, was just telling me people just don't realize that Bobby Ryan actually *never* wanted to come back & play for the Flyers. Despite being from the area apparently he had a pretty tough hockey dad & has bad memories growing up playing hockey. Said BR's kind of a weird guy, reclusive, lives in Montana.

  2. Not to mention you likely don't get the most out of Giroux last year and going forward if Richards and Carter are still here as both of them together would retain the role as franchise players. Especially after their no trade and enormous cap hit would have went into effect.

The other factor that hardly gets mentioned is how the Flyers management did an about face with regard to the mentoring process with new potential star players. 18 & 17's bad behavior bit Homer / Snider in the ass after they gave those kids the keys to the city. Think of all the injuries / surgeries Richards / Crater had - any chance it had to do w/ conditioning / lifestyle?

Notice how Giroux then roomed with Briere his first few years on the team, Coots following suit. As much as I hate to admit it, it was the same wise thing the Pens / Mario did with Cindy coming up...

  5. The fact of the matter is that, Richards & Carter are better suited to being role / support players in the NHL than #1/2 team leaders. You look at the production in paper (let alone the cap hits), its a total no brainer. Jake, Simmer, B Schenn, Coots, all under 23, too...

  6. @radoran -

    Matt Read 2012 - 79GP 24G 23A 47P / 800K

    Bobby Ryan 2012 - 82GP 31G 26A 57P / 5.5M

That's a pretty massive jump in pay for 10 more points. The consistency issue moving forward for Read that Idaho brings up is a very valid one though. Ryan *has* put up 4 straight 30-35 goal seasons on a waning Ducks team.

That said, if you could add Ryan without giving away too much (hey, how bout a couple of those first rounders Homer's still hanging on to!!), he'd be a potential 40 goal scorer playing on G's wing. He's a hard nosed kid the fans would immediately go nuts over that could fill a power forward role should they let Harts go after this season.

I bet Bob Murray wants a kings ransome for him though seeing how Homer swung for the fences all off season & whiffed.

  7. Sorry, 4.5 is just completely insane for Jags at this point, as much as I enjoyed him on the team last season. He clearly wore down w/ regular groin injuries down the stretch & in no way was as effective in the playoffs. At most I would've said Ok to low 3's for him / 1 year deal all things considered. Clearly it's not even remotely aboot team loyalty to him for a second; all last year was about was getting his feet wet in the NHL again.

He better have a Rolex overnighted to G - that's who he owes for that past-his-prime payday.

A dude like Shane Doan is way more the type of veteran leader / mentor you want to plug in on the 2012-13 Flyers roster than a Jagr for the money or even a Parise for that matter.

  8. Vanucks land Garrison - 6 year, 27.6mm contract. Wow. That'd really suck for them if he turns out to be a flash in the pan. They really went all in. Maybe hope for the Carle contract - Garrison's averages out to 4.6 per.

  9. Might miss the boat by waiting so long, thou I understand why he would want to wait.

Doan's desire is clearly to finish his career in Phoenix. He could be taking in somewhat of a king's ransome today if he wanted to go the money route.

Gotta respect the old school loyalty to the organ-I-zation like that in this day & age.

  10. Well, I have a distinct feeling Homer is going to seat pat and do absolutely nothing........ And then at the tail end of it, he will probably sign some no-names who nobody ever heard of..... just so he couldn't be accused of being passive.

Well if the beat writers are to be believed at all, Homer's at least kicking the tires on Suter, Parise, etc. FWIW, of course...

  11. Any chance he keeps up his 75+ point seasons?

I'm sure they're booking on that in Dallas! 75+ point seasons for him is probably is unrealistic. His average seems to be more like high 50s / 60s. Surprisingly healthy the last several seasons though.

  12. 4.5 for 2 years is good value for the Stars, smart signing!

I'm seeing a 9mm total contract / 2 years for Whitney. 4.5 per year seems like a ton for a 40 year old. That said, his production *was* pretty rediculous last season.

  13. Can't find anything about bonuses, etc, but they said he took a pretty significant tour around the league meeting w/ Rags, Canucks, etc. sounds like his demand for playing time was a major fact in his decision.

That said, Matt Carle in Button's Top 5 FA list right now. Pointing out how his 5 on 5 production makes him a "very attractive potential acquisition" per the dwindling number of FA dmen.

Ouch. Don't sound good for the O&B unless Carle gives a hometown discount...
