  1. @billmeltzer: Gustafsson to Hockeysverige: "It's a ligament injury in my hand, I don't really know what the doctor called it in English."

Excactly, which is why we're typically exposed by teams like Tampa Bay and Washington.
  3. Well, he is entering his 'prime' years... I like it.

I agree that the players on defense we have now are much better. But why are they playing nearly as poorly in their own zone? Sure, we might lead the league in goals for, but we're also 2nd or 3rd worst in goals against. And in the playoffs, defense wins Cups. When Laviolette won with Carolina, Cam Ward caught lightning in a bottle. But I don't know enough about that Carolina team to say whether or not the team defense was as confused as it is here.

Was it really our defense? Or the anemic Boston offense, which was already short Savard (for most of it) and then lost Krejci? Montreal was also poor on offense. Our defense was completely exposed against Chicago.

I always thought Stevens was too soft on the players, and never really liked him as a coach. But, like him or not, he did take us to the ECF. As for the players being responsible on the ice for their boneheaded plays, of course it's their fault. I think we just need to accept that a Laviolette coached team will not be as defensively responsible as others. They will make those kinds of defensive mistakes in trying to execute the agressive, quick-transition play.

But we've been poor defensively ever since he's been here. It's a result of his aggressive attack system that has all 3 forwards deep in the offensive zone, and when in the defensive zone, they bolt on offense as soon as one of our guys touches the puck, regardless of whether or not it can be passed up/taken out of the zone safely. We had less talented personnel under Stevens and were better defensively.\
  8. I think it's another shooting gallery.
  9. Talk about sensationalizing the content with that headline. Knuble used "we", as in "we looked like clowns" and "we played like losers". Big difference between including himself in the analysis, and calling his teammates "losers" and "clowns" Poor job, Gormley.
  10. Nothing on Philly.com this morning either. Strange. Then again, considering the source...
  11. Awesome if true. I like Coburn and it's good to lock him up.
  12. I've been reading some pretty interesting articles lately about doctors who are studying the brains of deceased NFL players, wrestlers, and other athletes. One doctor in particular has noticed an anomaly on the brains that have been concussed a lot, and that is some blotching in a certain area that controls mood and behaviour. He claims causality between the hits to the head and the suicides of pro athletes (or the radical change in behaviours), but of course the NFL denies it. They have for a decade. One study talks about the impact to the brain when hit head on by an NFL or hockey player. When you're in a fighter jet, I think you experience about 3 or 4 G, but the impact of an open ice hit is about 100 G. That's a lot of sloshing around in your head. There's a very well-written and interesting article here, in GQ of all places! http://www.gq.com/sports/profiles/200909/nfl-players-brain-dementia-study-memory-concussions
  13. Apparently, a maintenance day.
  14. Haha, nice! I bet you someone shut that ******* door!
  15. LMAO! My bad... I thought QFT was "quit fu*&ing talking". Guess I've been on some "other" Flyers boards too much!!
  16. Was Leino injured? Anyway, he was pretty invisible in the Buffalo/Flyers game last week. I liked him, but as @radoran says, he is NOT a $4m/yr forward.
  17. Here's his talent analysis from hockeysfuture.com: Talent Analysis A combination of size and skill, Couturier is a solid and safe contributor at both ends of the ice. Perhaps his on-ice vision is his greatest asset, with a knack for finding an open teammate and threading a pass across the rink. Although he needs to continue to add strength to his frame and he is not known for being a punishing physical player, he uses his body well to protect the puck and make a play. Compared to the rest of the package, his skating is only average with the first few steps needing some extra work. Future Couturier will attend Flyers camp with his sights set on securing a roster spot in 2011-12 but with the Flyers' depth at forward, particularly at the center position, he may be headed back to Drummondville for one more season of juniors. Should he return to juniors, Couturier would likely once again play for Canada's entry in the 2012 World Junior U-20 championships. One of the players in consideration for the first overall pick headed into the 2011 NHL Draft, Couturier projects to being a top level two-way forward and a gifted offensive player that makes those around him better. While Flyers fans may have to wait until 2012-13 to see him at the NHL level, he should be a fixture in the Philadelphia lineup once he arrives.
  18. I thought I read somewhere that Couturier was being compared to Primeau.
  19. Great to hear! I'd love to see Lindros and Clarkie on the same line
  20. Good. I've been really impressed with how comfortable he's looked so far.
  21. Too bad for the Leafs.. they were actually playing well. Lupul has been tearing it up!
  22. Richards had a mean streak, which I liked. I can't say I noticed if the Booth hit really affected his game over time the way that Randy Jones wasn't the same after the Bergeron hit, but maybe that's the case. Didn't Richards have double shoulder surgery after the Cup run?
