  1. I myself fall into the the "this is gonna be weird" category. When a player isn't wearing the O&B, they are the enemy. But I never hate opposing players, even if they have talent to spare or just cause they light up my team regularly. It takes acting like a douche bag to do that. Aside from him being awesome and lighting up the Flyers, I didn't know much about him. Sure I'd hear things from time to time about him being a prima donna but what do I care? he wasn't disrupting the Flyers locker room. So when I hear we signed him, all I could say was, "this is gonna be weird" I assumed though that between age and not being in the NHL for a couple of years, that he'd probably be different than when he left. I didn't know what to expect so I went into it with an open but "this is weird" mentality. I had no clue that he was going to be this good so I'll take it as a very pleasant surprise. I also have to admit that, provided he plays consistently through to the end of the season, I wouldn't be opposed to the Flyers offering him another 1 year deal. He has the skills, has the dedication, and now seems t have the right mindset. What's not to like?
  2. JVR wasn't coring with those two so they moved him to a different line... wonder what that means
  3. man I'd like to hope not! What's cool is that it's one thing to put up that many goals when it's a game filled with no defense, it's another thing to do it and then almost log a shut out. I'm convinced the team stopped playing at thee end but am willing to forgive it.
  4. who's Betts? jk, I had a feeling we weren't gonna miss him this season. Serviceable player for the money but that's about the best thing you can say for him. oh, and he doesn't straight up blow on faceoffs, but I'm not about to dress someone JUST for faceoffs. and it's not like the Flyers had a tendency to make sure he took all the crucial one's when he was here anyway
  5. this is one of the few times I scrolled down before answering the question and saw you said what i wanted to say. On top of that, I also wonder what Forsberg would've done with that team. Eric in the early days seemed to carry the team single handedly. When Colorado was winning their cups, they really had a more complete team.
  6. what's wrong with the spinorama?
  7. he been good and consistently so!
  8. I for one am fine with that. I never got the team's love affair with Bart
  9. I could see Lindros putting him into the boards during the pregame skate
  10. yup.but these guys are scared to put the Flyers a man down at all. With so much said about their lack of discipline, forwards not getting balanced ice time because of always being on special teams, I'm not surprised Shelley has shown too much restraint in those situations. For me personally, I'm with you, there needs to be a way for players to police things themselves within the rules. Shelley should be able to go to a guy who put a tough hit on one of our players without immediately knowing his gonna get the extra 2 for sure and these days probably a 10 minute or even game misconduct on top of that. Some have argued that even if Shelley or any other goon goes after said players, it wouldn't stop them, but I think that's irregardless, players need to be able to step in and get these guys thinking twice, even if just a little for their actions.
  11. I don't disagree, but if it's the forwards poor positioning than I'd send them a message and not pass it to them. I'd look them off and try to skate to the half line and dump it or swing back to my defensive partner and attempt another break out. After a little bit of that I'd like to think Lavi would recognize the D men aren't comfortable with the current set of passing options and inform the forwards they need to do a better job with positioning and movement. Those boneheaded passes are beyond baffling.
  12. I was wondering when we were going to get an update about his actual vision. I found myself more interested in whether or not the guy could see more than when he was going to return but the return updates were all we were getting. Of course I deduced that the vision thing must've been fine since 1, no news was good news? and 2. he wouldn't be getting return updates unless the vision was fine. this is the first time I'm hearing he's got 20/20 back though. Even better now that his vision is fine that it won't be much longer 'till he's back, amazing the impact just his presence has.
  13. I was complaining about him a couple of games ago and some were telling me it's too early to be worried and **** like that. Since then he hadthe2 goals against the jets, a goal against Buff... I figured he was turning it around and NOW he gets benched. Interesting. I felt he needed some sort of wake up call but to send the message after he starts scoring is what is interesting to me. I wonder if there's an attitude thing going on here as well. People can't deny though that lofty expectations of him this season are not out of line. The departure of Richards and Carter and his new deal in the offseason all but spelled out, JVR and Giroux, this team is now yours. Giroux is holding up his end of the bargain, JVR, not so much so a message needed to be sent, the timing is a bit odd though
  14. i thought at first he stopped but watching replays you can see his back leg never really comes to a full stop... ALMOST, but not a complete stop. Don't matter, they win the shoot out, or lose the shoot out, I hate the shootout. They (the NHL) desperately needs to come up with another way or just go back to letting games end in a tie. In a way it doesn't make sense how one team earns a tie and the other team earns a win. Games are worth 2 points but in this scenario they actually handout 3 points in the game.
  15. thanks for the link, that's about as good a view of it as your gonna get. pretty blatant to me.
  16. yeah,I didn't like that quote either. I wasn't too thrilled with his defensive play when he was in the lineup so I was happy to see he was demoted.. That said, I'm not sure how valuable of trade bait he is. I can't see a team picking him up just from his salary alone. His play certainly isn't worth it, even for team who have ample room under the cap. Unless there's a GM who would look at him as a goon who can relatively decent hockey.
  17. too bad Z got scratched, would've loved to see him play... especially whenever I saw shelley out there... no idea why Harry Z would sit over Shelley
  18. yeah,I love the start they had, would've liked to have seen that the whole way but they managed to come away with a 1 goal win. One thing that is amazing me so far this season is the number of goal scored by redirections off our own players legs and skates. I don't remember that being a common occurrence but these days I cringe almost any time I see a puck bounce off our own player while in our own zone.
  19. I honestly don't know either. I've said before that to this point he hasn't really impressed me a whole lot. On top of that, the few games he played for the Flyers, they look out of synch, as if he screwed with the chemistry or something. I guess I don't have a long term plan for him laid out in my head, I just know he's a young talent and I've been frustrated in the past with the Flyers letting go of fresh young talent only to watch them flourish somewhere else. The Flyers are currently enjoying a luxury no one knew they had before the season started at the forward position. The thought was the D was going to make up for the supposed lack of scoring, now that seems to be the teams weakness. If they were to give him up, it better be or something good. And by good I mean a proven D man who isn't at the end of his career.
  20. he had that on last game too. I didn't know much about him until he came here except for the shushing the crowd after the Carcillo fight a couple years ago. Heard he was a class act and his reputation seems to have been earned. I'm enjoying him being a Flyer
  21. agreed. Even with the injuries, it's still the Flyers game to lose like ya said. Should be a good game. Buff needs a bounce back game bad and the Flyers have a couple of back in the lineup hungry players. I think I heard somewhere the Rinaldo was a little banged up. Hopefully that's not the case and he'll be able to fly around and do his usual.
  22. don't feed them anymore, let the past be the past
  23. I'm in favor of keeping him. While we certainly could use some help on D, I can't possibly fathom dumping him after only four game. I haven't been impressed yet ( like the way I am with Couts) but it's way to early in the season/his career to give up on him. As others have said, if he finds his groove, he'll be a good replacement for some of our aging forwards.
  24. hmmm, maybe that was it. As it stand I can't think of any other moment he could've gotten injured, unless it was during practice. If it happened during practice though I'm sure they would've specified.
