Has anyone on this esteemed panel of hockey gurus ever been to Vorhees or the Wells Fargo Center in a shirt and tie? The reason I ask is this. A lot, and I mean a lot of respected hockey people have entered Flyerland and shortly after arriving in the hockey ops suites theis nuts have fallen off and their spines have turned to dust.  Curious if this happened to you too.

Why is this so hard for so many. There are 31 other teams in the league, some successful, some not. All the examples needed are right there in front of their faces, yet somehow the great Flyer mojo continues to get to neither, they just seem so happy to be mediocre forever. I would respect them a lot more if they got in front of a microphone and said

" We know we suck, but it's our suck and we don't care what all you suckers, I mean season ticket holders think, we will continue to do it our misguided, assinine way as long as we want, and that's that."

After watching Danny B spew his bull crap Wednesday it's hard to think otherwise.

Danny B can be an excellent GM, of they let him. The problem is the season ticket holders don't turn on the higher up enough, therefore there is no urgency to change philosophy.

As coveted as he may have been by other teams..Flyers ownership probably told Keith Jones, to tell him something along the lines of, "We're hiring you and giving you a lot of money for your first NHL exec job, but we're watching, and we still want you do things mostly our way".  I want a couple of years to see what either a) Danny B can do and/or b) what the execs allow him to do. On the surface, he's a good hire, in my opinion. However. due to those previously mentioned execs..he might be the equivalent on putting lipstick, on a pig.

So this is the third major injury for this guy in three years and how effective are players after this type of surgery, it usually takes a full year to be at 100% after core surgery, so he will probably be a non factor next year too. The more things change , the more they stay the same. Even the new regime trades for injured players. The rebuild/agressive retool has been going on since 2010 and we probably lose Carter Hart  after having bad goalies for 30 years, we draft Mr Softee  Nolan Patrick, then we get the 5th pick and our best prospect in years doesn’t wanna play and gets traded for another injury prone lemon.  Im so fed up, I was 11 when the Flyers won the Cup, I may not live to see them win again.

Damn. Now, they can't even coach Drysdale on how to play in his own zone now, for God knows how long.  The retool, we all know, is about ego and pride going back decades. They could have tanked for Bedard, instead of being a borderline playoff team. Michkov will be very good at least, IMO, so they lucked out.  This organization can't get out of its own way. The more things change, the more they stay the same, indeed.

The Patrick pick continues to haunt them, to this day. Red flags all over him, yet he was their pick. The Gauthier situation, I don't blame them for..UNLESS he didn't want to play here, and they knew ahead of time and drafted him anyway. If that's the case, obviously that is sheer total incompetence from the Flyers organization.

I think I'd rather face the Golden Knights in the first round, so that Stone et al, don't have as many at bats to loosen up as the playoffs continue. There are very few easy match-ups anymore, so you take what you're given, I suppose.

I agree. Dallas gets a huge test early and I think it benefits them, and they go all the way to the finals again, after winning a hard fought series, in 6.

  4. "Familiarity breeds contempt". That describes this matchup well. Third year in a row these teams have met. Great power play for the Oilers (4th best in the regular season) against a great PK unit for the Kings (2nd best in the regular season). I think McDavid and Draisaitl come through in the clutch, and win a hard fought series. I'm picking the Oilers in 7, although the Kings will try and hit them often and wear Edmonton down... and do their best to get under the skin of McDavid, Draisaitl and Co. It should be an excellent series.

After what happened with Nolan Patrick, I don’t know how Briere even took a chance on twice injured , frail , small guy like Drysdale. We already have a dman just like him, minus the injuries in Cam York.. Gauthier was a #6 pick, so I would have asked for Anaheims pick protected as long as it wasn’t the#1 pick, if it was the #2 then we throw them something else. I don’t believe that was the absolute best offer out there,.We got robbed. I hope we unload Drysdale to move up in the draft before he becomes Patrick the second. He’s a p u $ $ y.

Maybe he is that ^. I don't know. What I do know, is that Drysdale needs a strong stay at home, defensive defenseman (which he certainly is not) to play alongside. He makes Ghost look like Chris Pronger. If they don't think Drysdale's defensive game can or will improve much at all..they should try and move him.

Dear SC:  I know you are in part joshing me, but seriously, I am not saying we are on the verge of greatness.  But we finished above .500 and our longest losing this year was eight games, not 10.  That's improvement.  I agree there's no one player who's that great.  But the product is more competitive.

It's a stepping stone. More than a few of these players, never experience an 82 game season or an NHL playoff push. They are well coached and many of the young players, are learning and improving. They are on the verge of being a playoff team (as they were until the last game of the regular season this year. I won't go beyond that, at the moment.

Now, Danny B has to improve our capspace situation, then sign Reinhart in the off-season, and get a starting goalie. There will be those who disagree on that strategy (signing Reinhart). If he wants 8 years, I would be probably not sign him. Hopefully, he would settle for a 4 or 5 year deal.

  8. Rangers in 7. If Backstrom was able to play, and not just going over to the Ovechkins' house for breakfast, I'd probably pick the Capitals. The Rangers have a bit too much offensive firepower, although Washington split the season season series with them. Now, I just jinxed the Rangers.:beer:Go Caps, though I'm not picking them to win the series.

The Crater trade brought Voracek (and the pick that became Couturier).

Wayne Simmonds is among my favorite Flyers ever.

I'd take two Cups instead in a heartbeat.

    #winning

It doesn't matter. Crater err...Carter wasn't going to win a Cup in Philly. He was a better, less lazy and more focused, all-around player for the Kings.

And all of that is fine.

I would rather see a Cup championship.

It's nearly impossible to do both with the system that's now in place.  Nearly every team that has won a championship since the system change has sacrificed to do so.

That's where I am. It was fun to see them battle the end of the regular season, to make a playoff spot. This team needs more young high end talent. I would add a Reinhart if he becomes available. That being said, I would rather them bottom out and get a lottery pick, so that they can be very good to great for 5 years or so. They need to build successfully with Top 5 in the draft, talent. They are still too concerned about $ and seat filling every year. Unfortunately, Flyers management and ownership going back to (RIP) Ed Snider, has let ego and pride... get in the way of a full rebuild. New Era Of Orange needs to mean "We'll do what it takes IN TODAY'S GAME, to follow the model of successful franchises that have won Cups in the past 20 years".

    THIS ^^^^

I agree about the next contract being enormous and something the Flyers shouldn't do (particularly if it's longer than 5 years), but if I can't package him for a big upgrade in goal or a younger PROVEN skilled offensive player in return, I'd hold onto him.

  12. This is a well-coached team. Some of the young players did take positive strides. These players finally got a taste of what it takes to make the playoffs, and playing meaningful games in March and April. They just aren't talented enough. It's that simple.

Now, Briere needs to find a sniper and a starter. Ersson is not the main reason for the Flyers not making it, but I don't think he will ever be a clear #1 starter. Offensively, getting 40 shots and only getting one or two goals is not acceptable. I would really like to see them get Reinhart in free agency. A big-time sniper.  Foerster and Poehling are good players, but are they first line players?(I would say not quite yet for Foerster, though he impressed me) No. Is Frost really good enough to be a reliable second-line player? No. Even if it isn't Reinhart, they have to find a center or wing that puts a lot of pucks in the net, besides TK and Tippett. They are not that far away..and Michkov will be here before you know it. This team should really be ready to take it to another level, at that point.
