  1. Horrible time to go into a collective scoring slump. It highlighted that lack of high end talent. The difference between winning and losing in the NHL today is pretty slim. The difference between bad teams and decent teams is slim too. Having a player or two that can make something from nothing would have been helpful during that stretch of games. This also just in: if my aunt had any balls, she'd be my uncle. Can't do anything about that either.
  2. Good for Cutter. Also, he can fug all the way off forever.
  3. Not going to lie. I'm glad they beat the Rangers. I hate that they're so good. I hate that they rebuilt their team in 2 years. I do like the sweaters... but really **** that whole organization. @SCFlyguy the points per games percentage is game / wins. Yes? It just means the Rangers win more frequently than the Flyers by that percentage. I think while your math is fine, but using winning % doesn't take into account playing head-to-head, it's of all the games both teams play, the Rangers win more frequently.
  4. Was it known he didn't want to come to PHI when he was chosen? If not, I don't see where that was a bad pick, just a bad result.
  5. @ruxpin Wouldn't it be funny if they promoted Rocky Thompson to HC after kicking Tortorella upstairs. He does have a good track record of developing young players. It would be funny because the powerplay was so bad this year and everyone says it's all his fault. at least I think that would be funny. I'll see myself out. *kicks rocks* sigh.
  6. I just looked at cap friendly for a Couturier buy-out. oooof.
  7. We have to see what happens first. Could be guys are getting bought-out and "promoted" I cannot imagine the FO is watching this and thinking, "yep going exactly as we planned, sign all the free agents!"
  8. @GratefulFlyers amazing what an .875 save percentage, injuries and clown-show histrionics can do. The business with Couturier was/is really puzzling to me. Not sure what the desired outcome was, but alienating the only top 6 centerman on the team couldn't have been near the top of the list.
  9. I also have some heartspace for the team on that Carter Hart situation. Those charges took forever to drop. I'm not sure how that could've been project managed not knowing when the hammer was falling. I mean, they were carrying 3 goalies for what 2 months? What would have been better to do? They could have traded for a backup? but then, really? That situation wasn't nearly as hard on other teams because the players involved were skaters not the franchise goalie.
  10. Dude 9-3 to the ****** Habs was 2 days ago.... you think they're keeping within double digits of a good team? I seriously though, I have some latitude for Fedotov. He isn't at all what he could be, are his pads even worn in?
  11. They looked like they had never played together vs MTL. That was a fiasco. I wonder if getting .785 goaltending has anything to do with why they're so bad? I'll bet that is big reason. I need to see this team compete during these last 3 games for the "building culture" idea to land....all 3 remaining teams are better, If they lose these games 5-3 with an empty netter but are competitive that's one thing; that will stink but at least it shows the team has some fight remaining. Getting dragged behind the woodshed? I think will present even more questions about just what the hell is happening.
  12. Hey, the 3 Body Problem is some excellent science fiction. We blew through it in a weekend. Those GOT nerds can adapt a book.
  13. Until last week they were pretty fun to watch. They were really frisky, never seemed to be out of a game. The talent disparity was evident when they played the true contenders but for 70 games they played pretty well. I enjoyed watching them.
  14. His advanced metrics were pretty awesome and he was really good on the PK. That and the fact that everyone got hurt and then he was traded kind of killed the season. Not to mention causing the uproar around a 4th round pick for and old guy, who is here until the season ends.
  15. I mean, you know everything, sure. But for the rest of us who don't have a time machine. I think we learned about Sam Ersson, Morgan Frost, Tyson Foerster playing in the NHL. Cam York showed something this season, as did Travis Sanhiem, that contract isn't so awful looking now. Ryan Poehling, who knew? he was much better than I expected. I didn't expect Tyson Foerster to be as good of a forechecker as he turned into, I also didn't expect to see him score 20 in his first year. I think many people thought Carter Hart's fate was going to be known prior to the season. It took a long time for those charges to come out. When there was no announcement, and the season began, I think it made that whole situation weirdly unmanageable. I'm hoping they can improve their draft position over remaining games and escape the season without ruining Jamie Drysdale or, since he's here until the aliens come to squash us like bugs, Sean Couturier.
  16. Well Ryan Poehling is kinda cute. The Flyers made the Canadiens look like the Harlem Globetrotters last night. That was an embarrassing display. Play like that vs the Rangers and they could lose by double digits. Why Couturier and Drysdale are playing boggles my mind. Shut those guys and Sanhiem down. This season is over the only thing left to do for them this year is shorten their careers. It's a shame this entertaining season is ending this way, however, maybe it highlights the true talent level of the club and will spur people to action.
  17. This is not an accurate statement. True story he went to the bosses and said, I want more offensive responsibility and 2 years later he won a Selke trophy. Before he had the back injuries he was a stud. His skating was not great, but he scored, made his linemates better and when he was on the ice the Flyers had the puck and were creating scoring chances. Had his back injuries not happened, he would definitely be a valuable asset to jump start a rebuild. That's not where we are though.
  18. He is signed for 7 more years at 7+m .aav, he has injury concerns and wore down in his first full season back from those injuries. Who would take that contract? That's why he's a keeper. Maybe we should call him a nobody wants-er? On a non-Fletchered team he would be a "first to go".
  19. He's 23 this is his second NHL season. He's played 30 minutes a night since December for "reasons" but one of them is he's earned them. He does that stick on puck thing about as well as I've seen anyone in a Flyers uniform do it since...Dejardains? I don't think he's done developing either. We see that player differently. But i appreciate your perspective.
  20. What would constitute a proper rebuild iyo? Trading Konecny? It seems to me the previous guy has hamstrung the new guys with some of the contracts he offered. I don't know how a Couturier contract would get moved for instance. Also, i agree that this management group won't go full Blackhawk. I'd be shocked if they did.
  21. @flyer4ever I forgot about Poeling and Hathaway. I liked watching those guys this year. They're cheap and not holding anyone back.
  22. I think the carrots of the 23/24 hockey season are cooked- for the Flyers anyway. I don't see where they're qualifying for the playoffs unless there is divine intervention. I do think some information has been gathered about some players and whether or not they should be kept for the future or used to acquire some other assets. There are some guys that I think are just not tradeable and some that after another year will become someone else's problem if they remain in the NHL I think those players are: Sean Couturier - he's a favorite of mine, he's also signed until doomsday and has legitimate health questions. He's not tradeable Cam Atkinson- No one would want him, he's on the payroll for another year Travis Sanhiem- Perhaps this season has changed the perception of him around the league. He's been very good this year, has been playing through an injury that will likely require surgery, again signed until baby jesus returns at a high cap hit. Not feeling too mobile to me. Rasmus Ristolainen- Did his mandatory military service end his hockey career? He's got too much $ for too long, but he's big and mean; could he be worth something in a trade? By himself signs point to no- as part of a package in a hockey trade...probably. Do you build around or trade for a top pick or top prospect? Travis Konecny He too is a favorite of mine. He’s been playing through an injury that will likely require surgery, he’s been really good this season after a nice year last season. I feel like I’m good either way. Trade him for a #1 centerman prospect and something else or keep him if the cap hit isn’t cripplilng. Is he too old to fit the Michkov timeline? maybe, lots of questions and emotion around this player’s future. Guys to build around: Cam York Guys to build around?: I like these players and would like to see them remain with the Flyers or in the case of Drysdale I want to see more of him. I think his sample size with the team is too small to make an accurate determination. Jamie Drysdale Owen Tippett Tyson Foerster Samuel Ersson Guys I don’t hate but need to see more from Joel Farabee – picked a bad time to slump, is he learning or is he not made for the moment? Maybe he’s banged up and we’ll find out on locker clean out day. He has skill and had a nice 5/8 of a season. Bobby Brink- I think his hockey brain is special. I hope he can find a way to be stronger on the puck and that micro second quicker to take action. He finds space and can be good along the walls occasionally. WTF to do with this guy? Morgan Frost- I don’t hate the player anymore, he’s been mostly meh in his Flyers career though. He’s finally found some consistency. For me he needs to produce to be kept around. I’m ambivalent about him. If he stays fine, if he goes in a hockey trade, fine. Ronnie Attard- righthand shot, aggressive, can skate has size. I want to see more of him to make a determination. Now is the time. Ivan Fedotov This is how waivers work young man. Egor Zamula – was okay for a stretch but wilted since February. Is he learning, does he warrant keeping for that Nick Seeler memorial 7th defenseman spot? I think with the other cats in the system I’d rather cut bait with Z. Meh Ollie Lyksel Adam Ginning These cats can head on back to the SHL and have nice lives. In each case I think there are players in the system I’d rather see. What would your list be? Comments and opinions are welcomed.
  23. That's fair. I understood. I don't like the logic. Maximizing chances. If the stars align and the generational player comes out of the right ****** 17 years prior to when the pick is available still seems dubious to me at best. This subject is hard for me to find my wise mind because, as has been discussed, other sports fan experiences.
