  1. You know... I was really glad that Lavy benched him, but it got me thinking... WHY has Lavy NOT done this more this season. He's been dealing with a lot of dead weight players, but we do have SOME that would like to play. I thought choosing Rinaldo was perfect. He plays every shift like it's gonna be his last... that's what you want.
  2. yeah... it's just very strange how far he could go in the other direction. I mean, i didn't really expect him to just repeat last year and build on it right away. but, by the same token, i really didn't expect him to slide THIS far in the other direction. it's like he's sean's twin who actually doesn't know how to play. Maybe he's got mono again!?
  3. it seems to be your run of the mill sophomore slump... um... i hope. actually, i think there is some cause for concern. he's already hit bottom and he's starting to dig. it's pretty amazing, but i'm still hopeful this is all just the other shoe dropping from his phenomenal play last year. it's just plain and simply weird how he can be sooo bad right now.
  4. Trade him now!!! His value will never be greater!
  5. Well, I'm a heretic as well then. I was certainly a vocal opponent of naming Richards captain so early as I was Giroux. I really like Giroux and he probably will be a good captain someday, but again... it was just too damn early. Especially when you had vets with leadership on their resume already to bridge the gap. (read: timo).
  6. I saw his post game interview last night and he just looked... overwhelmed. Like.. he doesn't even know what to begin to do as a captain. Maybe they could get Lindros to mentor him or something. I mean.. Lindros would just take over games at times when the team was sluggish or sucking.
  7. That's what made it doubly sad when we lost. I just knew that was it for that team. It's not very often that a team can get that far and then just do it again the next season. It happens, sure, but it's not a given. I knew that was it for that team... and a great team it was. Just not great enough. Story of the Philadelphia Flyers.. in my fandom at least.
  8. Really... when you think about it... Firing Homer is the only move that really makes sense right now. If it's not the coach and the players aren't good enough. Well, it's Homer's mess then right?
  9. well, you bring up very valid points here... imagine that!? It's a chicken and egg situation here. We keep going round and round because nobody really knows what the answer is. I guess the current feeling of the board seems to be one of ... just make SOME change. We all know 'IT' is not working... even though we're not sure what 'IT' really is. For me... it's not really about systems here. The players are just not getting it done. And let's be honest here... we are just not a very good team. We simply don't have the players to be a Stanley Cup contender right now. It doesn't matter if we have Scotty Bowman back there... they're not getting it done with this crew. To quote one of the best movies ever... "It's a huge **** sandwich and we're all gonna have to take a bite"
  10. interestingly... just after i read your post, i see a tweet from panotch where he asked homer if he'd fire Lavvy. 'I haven't even thought about it" was his response.
  11. I do not agree with firing Lavy at this particular juncture, however, when you look at the options the Flyers have... an obvious one would be to fire the coach. We have an overpriced goalie on the books for the next 100 years. Apparently, he doesn't work with the coach's run and gun system. Neither do a lot of the other players... it would seem. So, you're Homer and Snider... what's the easiest solution? Find a coach who can make these pieces fit into a 'system'. I like Lavy and I like him as a coach, but I'll say one thing that is not in his favor is that he has NOT adjusted to his players at all. If they're not going to adjust to him, then maybe he does need to go. I dunno what the best solution is really.. but, I'd prefer they didn't make any moves this season.... except moves that work toward the future. Trade Briere, Timo... whomever else is aging and wanted on a playoff team. We're not making the playoffs... we should be sellers. Let's get our prospect pool stocked.
  12. i'm so offended. it's ME that likes this one! REPORTED
  13. bill always tells it like it is ... and he's usually correct. this case seems to be no different and i completely agree with him.
  14. bob had some pretty good stretches for us, but they never really lasted long. it will be interesting to see if this is one of those or if he's turned a corner. i'm still not sold on bob yet... really inconsistent. still wish we had him though. instead of mr. mcleaky goalsferdstons leighton.
  15. when he's good.. he's great. when he's bad... well, then you have a game like the rangers game the other night. coburn was just brutal the other night. i think it's fair to say that he's a player that has his share of 'stinkers' but overall he's a good D man that many, if not all, teams would love to have. it was a fleecing of atlanta... in many ways.
  16. the irony, and consequent hilarity, of this entire thread is that the main reason the flyers are in this pickle is because of the FA signings and bad trades that people in this thread are advocating more of. there is much bigger trouble for this organization that an albatross of a goalie contract or a 35+ contract that they can't get rid of. we have nothing in the cupboard as they say. we have the worst prospect pool of any organization in the league and people would still advocate a huge trade to get this guy or that guy. we have NO pieces to trade! the only way we get out of this mess that we're in is to sit back and be patient. it's going to take many years, but they haven't even started yet. we need a management that builds a team from the ground up and we obviously don't have that right now. tl:dr: we're gonna suck for a loong loong time.
  17. the only thing worse than us missing the playoffs is the leafs making the playoffs for the first time in like 8 years. fuuuuu ck me.
  18. we are pathetically in last place of all teams in hockey futures. gggrrreeeaaatttt.... you mean it's gonna get worse!?
  19. Coburn was dog doodoo tonight... just awful. and don't get me started on the rookie D... holy sweet geebus.
  20. Richards is confirmed OUT for tonight.
  21. who knows, but it could be as simple as personalities not working out in one place or another. it's probably like hey... we got this guy and he's just not working out. got anyone?
