What the player is making is such a huge factor now because of the salary cap. A lot of teams are happy to get rid of that contract. Years ago, if there was no salary cap involved the trades made today would look a lot different, plus the UFA factor is there as well. The Flyers are always maxed out for cap space which makes these higher paid players unattainable.

Saw him live this year. Logged a lot of icetime, but didn't look like anything special, other then his size. I think it will take a while for him to develop, unless he really turns it up unexpectedly.

I would take a playoff birth and a half decent position for a draft pick as well.

@Polaris922 Too bad Crosby needs Kunitz to hold his hand while he is over there. Dupuis would probably have been playing for Canada if he wasn't hurt. Any kind of conspiracy theories with boy wonder and Giroux having some conflict in the past.

I don't know about picking a certain "type" of player so u have defense players etc. I still think the best players should play. Remember Rob Zamuner playing for Canada because of his defensive play. lol. What ever happened to that guy.

I may be acting childish, but I am so pissed about Giroux not being there, that I will not watch them or cheer for them. You think any GM would take Giroux in a trade Giroux straight up for a good number of those guys on that team? Giroux for Kunitz. lol. Ridiculous.

So why is it ok for some players to be there for their past play, but some aren't. I would like to see the model they were following for the picks they made.

@jammer2 Jammer buddy...then why is Nash on Team Canada? Giroux deserves to be there. Only Malkin, Crosby and Stamkos have more pts then Giroux over the last 3 Seasons.

@jammer2 @pilldoc @ruxpin I was going to add a bit more info on Ehlers. This is his first year playing in North America. He is from Denmark and played part of last season in a mens league in Switzerland. He actually played on a team with Seguin and Kane part of last year. He said Kane and Seguin helped him make his decision to play Major Junior. The Mooseheads drafted him 6th overall in the CHL Euro draft last Summer. He is leading all rookies in the QMJHL this year with GP 48, G 30, A 41, Pts 71. Like I was saying, he is fast and has awesome puck skills. He doesn't shy away from any area of the ice. I think he would be a great pick.

F - Nikolaj Ehlers - Halifax Mooseheads - Speed and amazing puck skills and not afraid to hit although he is not that big. Seen him make some Drouinesque moves. I was the same guy that wanted the Flyers to draft Voracek a few years back. Seen this guy play a lot and imo he will be a good one.

I have a bad feeling the wheels are going to fall off. Real tough schedule coming up. I can see us under .500 again soon. I never understood replacing a coach with another coach that was already part of the coaching staff on the team. How does this make sense? I am sure Berube is well schooled in the game since he watched it from the bench the most of his career.

Look at stats....so Giroux WAS having a bad year and we are soley basing these picks on this year?? You see the point totals of some of guys that were picked? Simmonds has more pts then Nash. If some players are being picked on what they have done in the past, which seems to be the case, then why is Giroux not on the team? Why is Bergeron automatically on every team? Seems like some guys are held to different standards.

Unf****ing believable....Chris Kunitz...cuz he can play with Crosby?? They might as well add Dupuis as well. Nash had 7 goals before last night....what a f***** joke!! I hope they lose.

I like Holmgren, but like everything else, it is time for a change. I would love Hextall in that role. I sure he still has the same intensity that he had on the ice. Always a tough competitor.

@flyercanuck Yeah but if we really suck, we still would have lost. This is a great sign.

@aziz Good thing I had the sound turned down. lol. A lot of the high draft pick guys score like that in the CHL, and still are good in the NHL. If he wasn't getting any pts or not making it look easy I might have more of a concern for his NHL future.

@Polaris922 Geez....Pittsburgh could use a guy like Emery in the playoffs.

I was excited about the win, but not overley excited about their play. We hung on in the 3rd and played defense, very limited offensive effort imo. I know this probably has been said a million times, but Timmonen looks like its about time to retire. Slow and making mistakes. I was actually feeling calm with Emery in net, normally I cringe every time there is a shot on our net, but Emery looked good. I am excited about the direction of this team now. Its only early in the season. I don't want a lottery pick. BTW...Giroux looks just a little bit off. Seems a bit slower on the puck and decision making, hopefully his body will catch up to his brain.

@murraycraven I must be really starting to lose it because I am thinking the Giroux for Subban deal would be a good place to start fixing our backend problem. As they say.... work from the goalie out to assemble your team.

@Bertmega Yeah they mentioned Edmonton was looking for help on the back end as well. We got lots of those, but I don't know if they will help. lol.
