Podein25
Welcome @bags2Drouin first huh? Rationale?Hopefully lots of GMs see your list, especially the comparison of Nurse to Dion Phaneuf - anything that causes Nurse to drop down the list is great!Nice to see some love for William Carrier at #27, but I don't see him going in the first round. I think some D-men - like Mirco Mueller and Hagg will go sooner.Interesting list. Lots of grist for the mill.
bags2
I've really been more impressed with Drouin than anyone else whether it was in the Q or in international play. The thing that really separates him to me is his compete level and ability to create scoring opportunities for himself and teammates. And I am a big fan of Carrier. A lot of skill, big frame, and very strong on his skates especially with the puck. I'm sure he'll slip out of the 1st and be a solid pick up for someone. hf101
@bags2Welcome.I still expect to see Colorado pick Jones with the first pick. The Panthers need a center and would choose MacKinnon and the Lightning then should pick Drouin.I can't see Holmgren not picking a D-Man with his first or second pick. I think Ristolainen could drop to 11.So no picks for a goalie till #40?Zadorov falls to 19 in your draft. I've seen mock drafts of where he goes in the top 10.Here is a site that has the whole draft order.http://www.prosportstransactions.com/hockey/DraftTrades/Years/2013.htm Edited June 12, 2013 by hf101 added link

Hmmm must be nice to have picks like that.... Edited June 17, 2013 by pilldoc

bags2
Thanks for the warm welcome everybody! And yes, it should be interesting to see what the Habs and Flames do with their picks. Sabres at 8 and 16 could also make some moves. it could end up being a trade filled first round.

bags2
One must assume there is a strong group of players in Europe that may be being overlooked a bit? Scouting the young talent in Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, etc is a key to success. You may be able to get a real good player even in the third round from over there.Even later than that in many cases. A lot of times in Europe certain guys fly under the radar, or like North American kids are just late bloomers. And there's the Russian factor, which has had mid round picks fall completely out of the draft.
jammer2
@bags2 You must have a real nice working knowledge of this crop of youngsters to reel off a 100 of them, very, very impressive work. Thanks so much for posting that....welcome to the board, look forward to reading more of your stuff!!! I love the NHL comparisons, I realize it's hard to be deadly accurate on this, but at least we have a roundabout rough guess as to what type of player the kid is if we have not seen him. Kerby Rychel has never reminded me of Simmonds, but I get the reference, he's a tough gritty kid who scores on the top pp....but Wayne would destroy him in most aspects of the game. Kerby is a prime candidate for a 1st round bust if you ask me. Like how you demoted Zhadrov a bit, I also think he's a tad overrated.
bags2
@bags2 You must have a real nice working knowledge of this crop of youngsters to reel off a 100 of them, very, very impressive work. I try to do my comparisons as close as I can to NHL guys, and as you said him and Simmonds have some similarities, but are well off from being the same player.I'd love to see Rychel fall to the Caps and if he ends up being half the player Simmonds is I'd be pretty pleased with someone like that in the Caps future line-up, we need more gritty guys with an edge to their game like him.And I like Zadorov, but I feel he's a bit overrated by a lot of scouts as well. I don't think his offensive game is near where some people think it is, and I'm all for physical play, but he goes for a few too many huge checks in my mind. jammer2
@bags2 I have a few problems with Rychel as a player. His skating is suspect, barely passable at the OHL level, which means his tranistion to the NHL may be tough, and a top 6 spot would be a real leap....which is kinda where you want a mid 1st rounder winger to be, a top 6 type. He may very well make a decent checker type, but I'm even doubting that. However, my biggest problem with Kerby is how selfish he is. I have literally seen him skate circles at center ice waiting for the big break out pass (in a tie game no less!) while his team is outmanned on defense. The other problem I have, is he never really deserved the spot on the top pp when he first got to Windsor, but his Dad, the GM Warren Rychel promoted him to quickly because he wanted his kid to get the stats a top prospect needs to go high in their draft year. It was all kinda dirty how it went down, and the favourtism was sickening. Probably my least favourite Spitfire of all time. I would stay away from this kid at all costs. Just my opinion, but whoever drafts him is not gonna be happy.
bags2
@jammer2 I really don't have as big of a problem with his skating as many other people seem to. Obviously he's a below averge skater in this class, but he seems to make up for it by always finding high scoring areas. And I'd definitely have to agree with you, he seemed selfish to me at times too. But that is something that can be fixed at the NHL level. He was a big gun in Windsor, as he goes through the AHL/NHL ranks it will be made clear to him by coaches and teammates that those kinds of plays can't happen. And say what you want about him no belonging on the power play, but he's scored 40 goals that last two seasons, on two very poor teams.I feel like he's a guy who will be an NHL player. Even if he doesn't pan out as expected, he still can be a bottom six forward. And with a shot like that, I wouldn't want him to get past the Caps at 23. Obviously to each their own, but I like what Rychel has to offer. Edited June 22, 2013 by bags2
jammer2
@bags2 " Obviously he's a below averge skater in this class, but he seems to make up for it by always finding high scoring areas." Definitely agree with that....he will go to the tough area's to score every time, and he does not mind getting his nose dirty in the process. "And say what you want about him no belonging on the power play, but he's scored 40 goals that last two seasons, on two very poor teams." Yep, 40 goals is 40 goals....and yes, they were weak teams with not a lot of offensive depth. My problem was the first 40 goal season he didn't really belong on the top pp, skill wise or work ethic wise. So, he made his first 40 goal year off the backs of teammates who deserved to be there before him...just cause Daddy was the GM. The second year, he more than deserved to be on the top line depth wise, but his goal totals really got saved by Alexander Khocklavchev coming back from Russia. Forget the exact totals but in the first week of Jan he had around 11-13 goals....and then Alexander came back and spared his stats. He finally got the set up man he needed to succeed. The Spits were so low depth wise a lot of times 16 year old Josh Ho-Sang was filling in on the top pp, just due to a lack of depth. Spits will be average next year, but looking forward to a full year of Slater Koekkoek (tremendous skater) and Ho-Sangs draft year. Josh should be a first rounder, but he won't be a top 10 guy like the Hockey News projected in last years draft preview sneak peak at 2014...in fact they now list 10 guys for 2014 in the lastest Draft preview and he's not even mentioned. Really creative but super small and easy to knock off the puck. Reminds me a bit of another ex Spit Loktionov, who caught on with the Devils after a trade from the Kings. Both very elusive and see the ice masterfully.
bags2
@jammer2 I liked what I saw from Ho-Sang this year. I have to imagine he' a first round pick next year. Solid year in Windsor, and I was more impressed with how he played in U-17's. He to me looked like one of the most, if not the most talented players on the ice for Windsor this year. I feel like he'll be seeing almost exclusive top line duties next year for the Spits. And I think Koekkoek will really help solidify their blue line for next season. Very smart hockey player, especially for his age. Always seems to know what the next move is with and without the puck, and like you said, fantastic skater. jammer2
@Podein25 When Stevie Y drafted him so high I thought to myself " I knew it would suck having Stevie in the East as a GM!"
jammer2
@bags2 Just curious, you obviously know your stuff, how does somebody from New York know so much about the OHL? Do you have the OHL package and get to watch them or tv, or do you attend games, or a combo?? Also, not in any way implying people from New York don't know a lot about hockey prospects, just the media coverage etc is very low for scouting/prospects etc....or do I have an incorrect picture of the New York media coverage? I get to see a lot of games online, that's where I watch the majority of CHL and European games, and some of the Swedish teams have their own youtube channels with full games which are great. The only junior games I'm able to actually watch on TV are WJC, Memorial Cup games, and every so often towards the end of the season and into the playoffs there's just a game of the night on.I initially got interested in junior hockey when a kid from my high school was selected by Erie when I was in I believe 7th grade, then another was selected by Oshawa when I was a Freshman. jammer2
@bags2 Maybe a sattelite of some sort would give you the OHL Action Package....they show every game for every team. Only available in Ontario as far as I know, but there has to be a way through sattelite somehow....maybe.
bags2
@jammer2 I'm still in college so I'm always back and forth between school and home, so in a couple years that'll be something to look into. Because some of the less popular teams I rarely get to see.
