ALT-ERNATE PROSPECT

Anthony SanFilippo wrote a nice piece on Mark Alt as he states in his article little attention has been given to the 21yr old but he has been doing all the right things trying to impressing the Flyers organization.

Alt rented a house this summer with fellow Flyers prospects Scott Laughton, Nick Cousins and Derek Mathers. It’s not the first summer that a small group of guys stuck around for a summer either hoping to make an impression.

Alt has spent the summer working on being patient with the puck at the point and being more sound with his decision-making, as well as footwork and speed and preparing for what will be his first professional training camp in a few weeks.

“I already have the nerves going a little bit because it’s my first pro camp, but I’m also pretty confident going into it too because of the work I did this summer,” Alt said. “ Another reason I’m glad I came here this summer is I was able to get used to the facilities and get to know the guys a little bit, so I won’t be going into camp with my eyes too wide open. I’ll be more ready for an intense camp like that.”

“I’m going to put in the time and do the work and just let the chips fall where they do,” said Alt, who is likely ticketed for the Phantoms for the start of the season. “I definitely have expectations as to where I want to be in a couple seasons, but that’s a little far out of my reach right now, so at this point I’ll see where things end up and take it from there.”

It will be interesting to see who impresses most of the young d-men in camp Alt, Gotisbehere or ?

We're certainly not wanting in the quantity dept. on defence. It would be nice if we could trade some of that for quality.

Its sad to say but most of these guys will go off into the league the way Justin Williams did.

Probably. I mean a lot of our D is really just 4, 5, 6s. It could mean a whole lot if we could come up with an actual #1 without selling the farm. But depth at that position certainly can't hurt.

We tried to sell the farm to Weber and ended up making him the highest paid player in the NHL who(without Suter) posted similar numbers to Kimmo.

I'd settle for 2s and 3s in this particular aspect, the focus on a goalie seems to be to grab an all-star, rather than some less than A level NHL talent.

Am I wrong in thinking that only your 1st line guys should have anywhere near this many giveaways in a 53 game season? Only because they're on the ice far more than your 2 and 3 and 4th line guys?

Hard to say without numbers from other team's players for comparison...but with out that and just from what i've seen from the team i wonder how many of those give aways are from so many blind drop passes...good lord this group does that more than any i've ever seen...i couldn't believe how many times i seen them have the puck entering the offensive zone only to do some fancy blind drop pass to a trailing teammate only to just give it away to a defender....it just drives me mad to watch so many ill advised cute drop passes like that.

@hf101  That sucks, right when I started watching, one of the first plays was Wilson smoking Alt into the boards. Hope he makes it back quick, but not to quick. Bad thing to happen to a promising prospect. One thing I know about Wilson from his Plymouth days, he hits HARD and they are not always legal.

I had a good feed for the game.  Was hard to tell how bad the hit was because of the poor camera angle.  I saw no replay.  It sucks he has concussion symptoms. He was playing a strong game up until that hit.  I can't remember but I think I posted Morin immediately went after Wilson and Laughton went to the box once for going after him.  Was a pretty chippy 3rd period probably stemming frm the hit Alt recieved.
