yave1964
The deadline is creeping up on us, so far not a lot of action, no big pre deadline blockbusters have been made, teams seem to be in the wait and see mode as far as the sellers, traditionally the closer to the deadline the better the return. Anyway, here is a list of some of my more likely trade deadline candidates and where they wind up. ANTOINE VERMETTE A favorite of mine, a BIG favorite actually, one of the top faceoff men in the game and he can score, wasting his career in Arizona. someone in need of an underrated second line center who plays in all situations will snag him up.DESTINATION: NEW YORK RANGERS CHRIS STEWART Someone will decide they have a need for an undisciplined power forward whose skills are in obvious decline and step up and pay the price that Murray is asking in Buffalo. Why, I don't know. A few years ago I would have killed to have seen him wearing the winged wheel, now he has eroded to the point where I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. If you need toughness and third line scoring, I guess you could do worse. DESTINATION: THE WILD ANDREJ SEKERA This guy can play, Faulk has stepped up and taken over the number one power play and Sekera sort of got buried but if a team needs a defenseman who can score a bit, this is where to go. DESTINATION: THE PENGUINS KEITH YANDLE: The prize of the trade deadline if he is dealt, a power play QB and a former all star who is entering his prime, someone is going to have to pay the price in prospects and picks to make it happen. I wanna say Detroit but Holland is loathe to trade so instead:DESTINATION: SAN JOSE SHARKS Okay here are some others: TYLER MYERS: Too pricy, staying putJAGR: Finishing career a DevilPHANEUF, KESSEL, CLARKSON, Meh, heh heh, no.CAM WARD: DALLASJACK JOHNSON: DETROITRYAN O'REILLY: BOSTON has the young blueliner to dangle to nab this talented kid A bunch of names to consider, anyone who has other thoughts on the subject or others to throw in the mix, jump on in!! OccamsRazor
Jagr is not staying a devilWhy not he has done said he is not interested in being a rental on a team he's not evn sure he'd fit on. He said he needs to be playing a big role 18-19 minutes a night is what he wants. And most teams have their PP set and he only want to play is his favorite spot on the PP.So if he don't want to go Lou may honor that.
OccamsRazor
“I’m not going to ask for a trade if everything stays the same. I’ll fight to the end. I like it here too much,” Jagr told The Star-Ledger. “I would hate to go to some team just to help them. I’d feel like a rented guy.“They’d use me the way they want to, not because they need me. They’d already be happy with their team. I don’t think I’d play the same way. I need my 18-19 minutes. I need to play a lot in the third period when the game is on the line and guys are getting tired. I hope I stay. Everything can change, but I’ve had fun. I like the system we play. Even though it’s a more defensive system, I don’t mind it at all.”His words....http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2013/12/jaromir_jagr_anticipating_big_second_half_wont_ask_devils_for_trade_at_deadline.html
MadDevil
The real question is, does Lou want to move Jagr? Personally I think they should shop him around and see what they can get. But I could see them keeping him, and re-signing him this summer. The Devils depth at RW is pathetic. After Jagr they've got Ghost Ryder, glassman Havlat, Bernier, and Tootoo. And there isn't anybody in the AHL that's ready to play that side, unless they move Boucher or Matteau there next year, and they're probably more bottom six guys to begin with. Another Devil I'd throw out as a potential trade target would be Zidlicky. I would think there would be interest in a veteran right handed D that can create some offense. He does have his defensive issues, and takes some boneheaded penalties, but on a better team where he's not getting 22+ minutes a night he could be a solid addition. WingNut722
@yave1964 Jack Johnson to Detroit? This is new, even from you, Yave, although I like it. It might be a more palatable offer than trying to pry Tyler Myers away from Buffalo.
yave1964
@yave1964 Jack Johnson to Detroit? This is new, even from you, Yave, although I like it. It might be a more palatable offer than trying to pry Tyler Myers away from Buffalo. I live in central Ohio, a bit less than an hour from Columbus, we catch our fair share of Jackets games and Jacket talk, Johnson is rumored to be on the block, at least in a 'seeing what is out there' sort of thing right now. He is from the Detroit area, it was a quirky suggestion, I heard it earlier in the day that Johnson was being quietly floated around out there so I figured, why not Detroit? A great teammate and a power play specialist who is needs a bit of work on 5 on 5 but paired with Dekeyser he could use his natural abilities to move the puck knowing the back end is covered. Of course the only draw back for Johnson is he would be closer to his parents.........
WingNut722
@yave1964 Perhaps, and if things get rough with mom and pop and Johnson finds himself broke again, at least he can hitch a ride with someone to the arena everyday. The other though is Johnson is, yet again, another left-handed shot. Its an easier trade, but I think it should be second fiddle to trying to get Myers.
