Well, at least ONE team decided to show up for the bronze...congrats US.

The US Olympic team could take a few pointers from their Junior team when it comes to the bronze medal game, apparently.

What a great gold medal game so far...3-3 going into OT, Russia ties it with 6.9 seconds left. Provorov with 2 primary assists including the tying goal.

Awesome game!

I know Marner had a poor tournament, but between him, Nylander, and Kapanen, with Babcock to get the kid's head on straight, and 3 first round picks over the next two years, future has to look pretty good for Tronno.

Marner has awesome talent...but right now he's like a 15 year old in his physical development. I laughed when he won a shaver for player of the game...he won't need it for years. Once he matures that way though he should be a heck of a player. Kapanen scored the big goal but really wasn't much of a factor most of the tournament....though he was more visible today even without the goal. Nylander clearly has blue chip talent.

It's one of the reasons I want Philly to pick high again and hopefully get another 1st. By the time it's our turn to be good, we'll be battling teams like the Sabres/Leafs/Oilers who are loaded with great young players.

Just got done watching. Was actually moved to tears with the raw emotion in that arena when they started the Finnish National anthem.. What a great thing for our sport, to have the much deserving Fins win Gold on home ice. How very odd....and how cyclical....the last time the Fins won Gold was for the very first international game in this arena, back when Joki Jokkinen was a top 3 pick....ALSO...the last time the Fins and Russia have met,....and also the last time Canada was knocked out in the Quarters. A very memoralbe tourny, despite Canada falling so short. Our great game is in great hands with this wicked wave of talent coming forward.

Just seeing Laine is ranked 3rd in a lot of mocks....with good reason. This kid picked the puck out of mid air, knocked it down flat, flying at full speed and sends a rocket towards the net all in a half a second....tremendous eye hand coordination. Did not know Aho was a Canes pick, one to watch. Very sneaky little guy.

From what I have read....sounds like he had an awesome tournament.  I really cannot wait to see him in O&B and watching this kid grow into a Bona-fide star.

He is gonna be fun to watch!

The first time the Fins won was in that rink. They won 2 years ago. This was their 4th, giving them the 3rd most of any country. Not bad for 5 million people.

I think he was the best defenceman in the tournament. Of course I'm including defence as part of it.

Defencemen scoring leaders...these stats do not include yesterday game.  So that would give Provorov 1 G, 10 A for 11 pts.  Me likey! :)

Button on Provorov at WJs... Button:
Off the bar...Ivan Provorov...I mean the guy is brilliant. He's unbelievable, just unbelievable how good this guy is. First of all, makes this perfect pass right up the ice to Kamanev, then he recognizes I can get right in to the attack....Right off the bar.

Ladies and gentleman, kids at home, Philadelphia Flyers fans, you are looking at a star. The game goes as fast as he wants it to go. His mind, he's just brilliant.

      Other announcer: talks about Brandon

Button: If he's in Brandon next year, consider yourselves winner of the lottery. (Then more rambling about a Brandon and the Flyers training camp)

His mind is already like, an, an, an, an elite NHL level and the ability to be calm and poised and understand exactly...I mean it's one thing to say this is what I want to do, but he knows how to break you down, he knows how to open up opportunities for himself and for his teammates.

He can play a ton of minutes because again he does not wear himself out by making unnecessary forays defensively..I, I, I, just...unbelievable player.

Other announcer: part if the reason why Russia is 6 for 6 on the PK in this game.

Button: and let me say this too about Provorov, he isn't going to be in all the hi-light reels racing up and down the ice and toe dragging and dangling, but boy, you want a defenseman that can command the game and all it's areas....He's your guy.

Other announcer: maybe not be on the hi-lights but he will be on lots of replays by analysts saying watch this play!

Button: and if you want to win Cups, you need defensemen like him.

Quite the props! And note, this went for about 2:30 minutes. Just thought I would share.

I'm going to say that is one of the most undisciplined Team Canadas I've ever seen...from the long shifts to some of the dumbest penalties I've seen in an important game. Take a bow coach. Every time someone would do one of the above (Virtanen, Perlini, Marner, Strome) Lowry would reward them with more icetime.  I think the US takes this, but Sweden should give them a go.

I guess they weren't using their "elite" nets? Seems to me they do a lot of fishing in Finland don't they?    Seriously, I don't know why they ever hold that tourney anyplace but Canada. The players far outnumbered the fans. They could have held that game in a quonset hut rink. You know, the ones where there isn't enough room in the rink area for the Zamboni. They did have a Zamboni, didn't they?    The IIHF should be ashamed. Bush league. End rant....

I'm really annoyed with Team Canada. Most of their top forwards took 1:30 or longer shifts all game, even when the bench was shortened in the 3rd. Strome, Marner, Virtanen were the worst offenders. Konecny hardly played in the 3rd. Lousy coaching if you ask me rewarding guys who, while talented, played selfishly while guys like Konecny sit on the bench. It's really bad for team building and morale no matter what the outcome. Brutal.

This team's failure was 100% on Dave Lowry. No discipline, no accountability, the team was fractured by his favortism, the players who stayed on the ice way too long every shift were never corrected, bad penalties were never corrected until the final minute of the Finland game, good play was never rewarded, it just looked broken from the start. This tournament requires a mixture of talent, heart, size, team work, leadership and egos left in the parking lot. This team lacked in all these areas except talent, which wasn't elite enough to overcome the shortfalls. Lowry never got the recipe right.

Sure. And if only Virtanen didn't lose his mind when Canada was tied. If only Canada brought a real coach. If only Blackwood would have played like he was capable.  Trust me, I'd love a best of 7 format...there just isn't time for it. I just find this tournament so much fun to watch....it blows the NHL away until it's playoff time.
