Brewin Flames
The Vegas Golden Knights have signed defenceman Alex Pietrangelo to a seven-year, $61.6 million contract with an AAV of $8.8 million. TropicalFruitGirl26
Big fish is hooked....... (well second big fish...the first was Hall). Vegas does it again! Just when people think they lose too much or are some kind of "decline", they just re-load and are back to being a problem for the Western Conference.
yave1964
know we are running with a flat cap for the next several years but and some folks are already saying he is overpaid but look at the contracts of Doughty and Keith and Karlsson and subban. This is a very fair deal. Pietrangelo is one of the best defensive d-men in the game, i dont know how he doesnt have a Norris, probably because while he can play offensively to the tune of 50 points a year his game is mostly shutting teams down while doing so. He grinds it out, he is a perfect add for the Knights and truth is this makes them the team to beat in the West. They still need to move out 6 million a year to make this work, Schmidt is probably the guy to go and i am surprised it hasnt happenedyet.
Math
It's a very good deal for Pietrangelo, I'm not so convinced in a Vegas perspective and their team chemistry. They cleared space by sending Stastny in Winnipeg and Schmidt in Vancouver after to desperately get rid of Fleury. And now they are still above the cap. They are the perfect team to try this kind of gambling but they may regret it. Edited October 13, 2020 by Villette/Lavaux

Buffalo Rick
Still can't believe this. Get ready to spend your money at the casino Alex. I am not sold on this team even with Pietrangelo. We will see. I still believe the Blues are better, if not just for Teresenko and the goalie.

Math
Vegas will certainly grab one of the two first spots in their division. They're stacked on paper but the concern is more related to the atmosphere and chemistry inside the squad due to: Ditching Schmidt, a reliable, serviceable and very well-respected guy in the team, for nothing just to make room for Pietrangelo; Hard to see the impact the arrival of Lehner; Marchessault is a little b**ch (totally subjective) IMO The 4-1 loss vs. the Stars might have highlighted deeper and maybe more insidious issues concerning this team as a group. I mostly agree and admit that i haven't been keeping up with them so much but i have one really big issue with them and their lineup.... Chandler Stephenson as your top line center???? WTF??? Why have they slapped the journeyman on the top line?? A kid who is coming off his best season of 8 goals for a whooping 22 points??? Is this really their plan??? Is someone i'm not aware of hurt??? Someone with a clue fill me in please.

Well, to understand the Knights way of thinking and doing things, you must understand that the Knights do NOT typically go with a traditional 1-4 lines set up. Sure, you can usually see what is clearly their 4th line, but in general, the first three lines can be seen rotating based on whomever is performing best at the time. Or even have them (especially whatever the first two lines are), share in equal ice time. My guess is Stephenson has shown the Knights something during their training camps and they want to give him every chance to do well. If he doesn't, I can easily see them bumping Willie Karlsson back to that top spot or even promoting Cody Glass if he is doing well. It is what makes the Vegas Knights so good (and could be their biggest weakness)....they don't really have a clearly defined top anything....but DO have several players who all play well enough to serve in those roles throughout their lineup. When everyone is playing on all cylinders, this setup is great....when slumps come around, then the team, as a whole, looks very mediocre and every bit the has been contender part. Vegas just runs things differently than everyone else and aside from not actually winning a Cup, hard to argue with their track record so far. Hope that helps make sense of things a bit. I would argue that St Louis is still loaded. Parayko is now the number one guy and is for sure a better defensive d man than Alex. But Alex is a great offensive d man. Maybe the best in the sport? But the Blues still have Teresenko and that goalie. And are pretty deep. They are a top 3 player in the West IMO

LegionOfDoom
I heard Buffalo will be letting some in later in the year. Waiting on their Herd Immunity to graze by in Spring.
