  1. I liked Chris Therien's nickname for him, as they went to the same college, IIRC: Hal "No Skill" Gill.
  2. That's just it. It's not personal -- it's business. "Leave the Gagne, take the cannoli."
  3. I don't like any of the lines of text Sam writes, either -- oh.
  4. This stinks. MAB is a kid who looked on the brink of being a solid everyday d-man.
  5. I'll take "Cleary's agent" for $200, Alex.
  6. Getting to the playoffs = $$$ It *is* a business, after all.
  7. He'll help one of the squads on the day of the split games. That's all I've got. I just wish the OP had used the nickname Chris Therien uses for him: Hal "No Skill" Gill. Not necessarily true, just cracks me up.
  8. Nope. I am in agreement with this line of thinking.
  9. Parts II & III are up. Part II: http://thesportsdiva.com/2013/08/29/2013-flyers-season-ticket-holder-town-hall-part-ii/#more-284 Part III: http://thesportsdiva.com/2013/09/02/2013-flyers-season-ticket-holder-town-hall-part-iii/#more-320
  10. I hope you're wrong, too. It wouldn't be the first person to suffer repetitive shoulder injuries. Conversely, there is precedent for recovering and staying healthy, too. Being this is Negadelphia -- and things do often seem to go sour since the mid- to late-80's (depending upon what sport you follow, but especially the bright spots in Flyers history since then), there is reason to be leery about him being 100% this year. At the same time, I would not be surprised if he played 60+ games. It's fun not being able to decide whether to be optimistic or pessimistic!
  11. I hate to say it (because I just received his jersey as a present last year and was able to get it signed at the STH Meet the Players Night), but I think Grossmann is the guy they're going to shop most: Not as mobile as either and Meszaros can do most of what Grossmann does.
  12. I think the oddest part in all of this is that the fans have held this grudge even longer than Roger Neilson did. Roger let this go, why does it have to be brought up? Not saying it wasn't a dumb thing to say -- it was. Clarkie, I think, is awkward when showing emotions about the things going on behind the scenes. I do wonder if he ever tried to clarify his statement or if that was lost in the cacophony of outrage afterward. I honestly cannot remember. @AlaskaFlyerFan may remember my definition of Clarke's flip-flopping on subjects from our ESPN days (when Clarke would say one thing then do another): Alternacalendrical syndrome. His position on subjects changed with the flipping of the daily desk calendar sheets.
  13. Nonsense, the sooner this season is over the more rest time he has for the following year's sure-to-suck season -- which in turn will last just 82 games.
  14. When something Flyers-related happens, go to Meltzer. Then go to the other sites and point and laugh.
  15. "Look, we want you to express yourself, ok? If you think the bare minimum is enough, then ok. But some people choose to wear more and we encourage that, ok? You do want to express yourself, don't you?" *sees Jeff Carter shot in Game 6*
  16. I wonder where that team would have ended up if Emery's hip had not been injured/necrotic. They had a pretty good October into November before dropping around Thanksgiving, costing Stevens his job.
  17. Except for the whole "let the extremists come after Americans who are trained and ready to fight back" in those two countries instead of sitting on our thumbs and letting them continue to come to us (that is, bomb/shoot civilians) in the States bit. I'll take my USMC brother's opinion over that of the average Joe, thank you.
  18. It's been said that hitting Niemi in the mask is a product of toilet-training with a floating Cheerio. All that open net and doink! into the mask.
  19. If anyone is interested, here's another write-up from the Town Hall: http://thesportsdiva.com/2013/08/25/2013-flyers-season-ticket-holder-town-hall-part-i/
  20. "Wait and see if the Nord's still good; Wait and see if he's still good for you." - Psalm 34:8, NSV [New Scandinavian Version]
  21. I think Lavi realized it -- albeit too late -- last season when they won 10 of their last 15. Once he stopped trying to play defensemen in roles they could not fill (Coburn is not Matt Carle and cannot be, for example) and closed the gap between the forwards and defense, they got a lot better. That's with a depleted D corps, too. If they go with the same defensive scheme with their regular 6, they can make some noise and make the playoffs. I have no doubts. This team has a 2007-08 sort of "feel" to it.
