  1. Whats the relevancy of 69ers? I am not following that at all.
  2. Feel bad for his girlfriend. Yet, usually a guy that does something like that does not have a girlfriend. Its like the short guy that that buys the monster truck. "look at me, look at me", yet you never see a girl riding shotgun next to him in the monster truck.
  3. 2 number 2's is a stretch. A single 2nd round pick would have been fine. It also would have freed up 4.5m to do other kinds of trades UFA signings this summer.
  4. If I am homer, sure. Joking aside, it depends on the make-up of my team and what my team needs. If my team has the current make-up of Columbus, you bet I do that. I bite the bullet on the last 2 years on the gamble that the player can bring me the .5ppg production he has done the past several seasons, along with the leadership, sand and grit "power forward" game style that my team needs. My team is already fully stocked with young talent, so losing a 2nd round pick is not hard- not to mention that there are not any guarantees that the 2nd rounder would turn out to be anything.
  5. Just for principle sake, I don't think you are going to get a 2nd / 1st line winger at a "fraction of the cost". Now, if you are talking about replacing Umberger, sure.
  6. Well if folks think we could get a 2nd for VLC (and some more than that), than certainly we could get a 2nd for Hartnell.
  7. Kind of an oxy-moron for hextall to expect players to be disciplined. When you looked up in the dictionary under "losing your cool" there is a picture of Hexy. That said, and I am not sure who posted it, for as much as Hartnell took undisciplined and albeit sometimes lazy penalties, he was also 8TH in the league in drawing penalties, which greatly off set his "undisciplined" side.
  8. C'mon Jammer. One time in his career he did that and that was SIX years ago. Hartnell has done exactly what he does in the regular season for the flyers and is a .5 ppg player in the playoffs. Also as far as "proven" goes, hartnell has played 3 times as many playoff games. Umberger has played 30 playoff games (22 with the flyers). Since then, in the last 6 years, only 8 games.
  9. But its not really "xtra", because you have to replace Umberger. I get the Hextall basically felt that Hartnell was not going to be all that in years 4 and 5. But all he did is remove THAT headache of the future ( that he inherited), for a headache today, which he just created. Where is Rocky and Bullwinkle?? Hextall seems like a shoot from the hips kind of guy. The only spot for Hartnell on this or most teams is 2nd of 1st line. He is not adequate enough speed or defensive wise to play a checking role and 4.5m for a 4th line role just is not going to cut it (cough VLC). I think there could have been a convo with Hartnell to say "hey man, your skills are not good enough. ready to move upstairs?". Columbus does not need Hartnell to be fast- because they are fast. they need Hartnell to do what he does from the circles on down. Thats it. The Flyers do need Umberger to be fast. The problem is that he is not. Faster than Hartnell, yeah, but that is not saying much. So, the Flyers gained a couple more HP's in the speed department, but lost a leader, steady producer and one of their best sand-grit guys. Booo!
  10. Vinny's hit is 4.5. I would rather have my dog play.
  11. The thing is that Hartnells contract is only really an albatross (and purely prospective) in the last two years. Nobody knows what the future brings. Maybe hartnell would retire, maybe another team would want him even in a deteriorated skill set fashion for leadership (his salary would be 1M less). I just think the trade is a joke in thinking about it. Surely we could could have gotten a prospects or just a couple of picks.
  12. It sure sounded as he was and was well known around the league.
  13. What financial flexibility? The only thing i see is that they will have 4.6m to spend to replace Umberger 3 seasons from now. The team speed, role flexibility make sense to me. But I do not see any financial flexibility.
  14. This is a complete oxymoron to the salary cap world and cost containment. 1) In 1998 / 1999- Eric Lindros was making 8m a year. 2) From 1998 / 2003- Dominic Hasek averaged 8m a year. 3) 1997- Joe Sakic made 17M. 4) 1999/2004- Peter Forsberg made 9.4m per year. My point being that you stating that the cap average is inflated by high salary players is bunk to me. The highest paid players in the NHL are making what the highest players in the NHL were makin 16 to 17 years ago. The other point I will make is that generally 2/3 of the league spend up to or near the cap. So regardless of who is getting what, that cap is split across 23 guys. With the cap this upcoming year, the average salary for a player that goes to the cap will be 3.08m. So, in that vein, Schenn is actually being paid less than the average NHLer.
  15. So newly obtained RJ Umberger with less production (20g / 16 assists) and 4.6M cap hit; and VLC with less production (20g / 17a / -16) 4.5m are worth it??? Hard for me to follow any logic that says a 20g / 21a guys that plays 16min a night is only worth 1.5m. Every year as a Flyer he has progressed (regardless what line people want to cite he was competing against). I guess in that vein, you'd say that Alex Kilhorn should make 1.5m as well. He signed (prior to Schenn) nearly the identical contract with nearly identical production, position and minutes played. That frankly set the bar right there and if you were to ask @TropicalFruitGirl26, I venture (if I recollect correctly) she was say that was a very fair signing.
  16. I agree with that sentiment. Thus my lament for him. He always wanted to be treated-and paid as a #1 / #2 guy, but most nights (as you said), only brought third line skill set. Also, as a Flyer fan, I can't forgive him for throwing Bill Barber under the bus the year that Barbers wife died of cancer (the prior year Barber had won the Jack Adams). Perhaps the right move as Barber has since to coach again, but heartless / classless none-the-less.
  17. Is there a difference between West Virginia and Pitts?? (joking of course). Big hair, eh? So all the girls from new jersey moved there??
  18. That would make more sense to me (and thats what I thought about the OHL too in regards to supplying players from Juniors).
  19. I don't even click on specific forums, I just click on "view new content". if the topic is something I am interested on, I read it, otherwise pass. Just citing my patterns on here and would like to think I am in the majority. On the 3 pens fans thing, while probably truthful, still hurtful. I personally would like their be equal number if not greater number of other teams fans on here. The only condition is as long as it does not deteriorate the quality and intent of this forum and regress back into a Philly.com sess pool (or enter any other forum where there is little to know moderation or spirit of general hockey camaraderie ie. hfboards.com).
  20. Not to bash Berube, but I think VLC would really benefit from playing in Lavys run and gun style. The big thing is do they have the supporting wingers to compliment him. Lavy has already proven his ability to kiss a veterans players arse when they are not going, so VLC would not have to worry about the whipping post.
  21. I guess, but how is that any different than the QMJHL (which I would probably bash because of their notorious lack of attention to defensive detail) ahead of the OHL, WHL, even NCAA? I guess my point being is why does that one junior league get so much of a bad rap when its a crap shoot (most of the time), for any player that has yet to play a game of pro-hockey??
  22. I guess the biggest thing is that the woman in Van have all their teeth. Not sure if that is a detriment or accolade. Thats for others to choose. :-)
  23. The only twinge of anger I had an anyone named Brind'AMour is at clarke for trading him for the egotistical, self-centered, malcontent named Primeau. People can talk all they want about his one shining moment of a tremendous playoff run, but at the end of the day, there was no cup (while Brindy did get one).
