  1. This is a great point JoeT. I really hate the "i am your buddy" gm principle when it comes to offer sheets. Its BS to me. EVERY gm should be trying to make his team better by all the tools given to him. Why offer sheets are a taboo is beyond me. I can understand it in a non-cap world (the rich poaching on the poor), but in a cap world, fair game I say. And for OldSchool- would you like our president and former GM Homer to do you wheeling and dealing?
  2. And there is the rub. As soon as spezza went to Dallas, I hung my head. It just goes to show VLC market value. Ottawa got some assets back. Dallas could have had Vinny for nothing. Truthfully, I respect what Hextall is doing. He has plodded a plan and sticking to it. Making the playoffs this year will be fine, but he knows this is not a SC team in its current configuration and willing to be patient and bide his time to make the proper moves / adjustments. The Emery re-signing was a clear signal of this. It is interesting in hind site to see how bad Homer screwed the pooch in regards to fiscal responsibility.
  3. What were your expectations? Just curious? You have 9+m in cap to play with, but some key positions to fill. How is the farm. This actually sounds like the dialogue (in reverse) with a pens fan regarding cap hit / space. For me, don't get too enamored with the shiny new toy that just passed by. I honestly don't know much about holland- i just know that your team always compete hard and not withstanding significant injuries last year, could have made a decent run.
  4. What does a faster team have to do with it. We traded for a slow utility man (umberger) that can stay upright, so we could get faster. Just saying. Inglina pots 25 next two years. His compete level is off the charts. It rich to me in the third year, but so what. So, Bruins are still in the penalty box, right, for the overage>?
  5. I have to call bs on that. Sorry, anyone can dummy an image file to look just like twitter. I can not imagine ANY amateur player in development and prying for a draft dissing 1) a team, 2) a player. Move on, nothing to see here.
  6. We have one! He LUVS playing wing too. Its an easier skate than his regular position. He just needs to skate from the red line into the o blue line and back again (unlike his normal blue line to blue line forays). Welcome Pittsburgh to your new winger extraordinaire Mr. VLC!!!!!
  7. You all are cynical! LOL You all must have been the ones booing the entire draft!~
  8. There were two ways to slice it (as @jammer2 pointed out): 1) go for the cup, or 2) go for an even bigger money grab. The guy just won the lottery with the total payout of Buffalo of 30m over the term of the contract. Erhoff chose option 1. Have to give him props for that.
  9. To @jammer2 point, both Griese and Chad signed 1m a year. Same cap hit.
  10. Nice post. Allot to digest. If you are coach, what are your initial line combos going into camp?
  11. God have mercy. My wife just read that and said no more sex for me!!!! (our daughter was 5.2 lbs 16"). That a pea compared to a basketball.
  12. First congrats!! Secondly, holy big boy. Get him on skates soon so the Flyers can sign him!!
  13. It really is not rocket science. While the corporations, er', franchises are multi-million dollar corporations, there is not a complex algorithm to this. At the end of the day, we are talking a corporation that maybe has 300 employees (i am leaving out the peripheral stuff like parking, concessions, etc). At the core, lets call it 300. Thats in totality. The is the entire operation. Focus on just the hockey players and financial part really can not be that hard. I mean if I am a gm, I have one business law lawyer on my retainer (or full time if he wants), one actuarial type and one business / hockey analyst that can help tie the languages together (think that movie about the Oakland a's). The sole purpose would be for when I say "player x / amount / years proposal", they give me an immediate response on the repercussions, not just for today, or tomorrow, but beyond.
  14. And the commentors kept commenting on it (I was watching TSN announcers). Here is my take, during the heat of a game / battle- have at it. That what philly is renowned for. The spectrum was one of the most intimidating barns to play in. I have zero qualms with that. But this was draft day. The whole week was spent promoting the kids (as it should be). Then we get to the draft and its like a Flyers -Pitss / Flyers-Rangers playoff game atmosphere. Everyone is all kujo'd up. The only ones that were spared were the kids. Really, for a draft? I can see having some fun, but it just seemed WAYYYYY over the top to me. Really, act that way for a draft?
  15. I am not sure if it was a time thing or what (because they did run over), but I noticed about halfway through, the gms stopped thanking the Flyers, philly, etc. and just made their pick.
  16. Thats what my thoughts were. Don't operate on pretend credit, operate within what is known. I get the flexibility part, but also see how when used by a less than astute gm, could get you into trouble.
  17. Which to me is a bit like smoke and mirrors. I get how it can be used, but its not THAT big of a deal.
  18. I looked at the same thing. Also, PA was getting 16 min a night while Briere was getting 12. Take that for whats its worth. I think its a stop gap / greener pastures type of thing. Next summer, Colorado will have 4m more in cap availability and not have to deal with whatever the problem was with PA in colorado. Also, Briere is clutch in the playoffs. Something colorado could have used in the last 2-3 games when Minny shut down colorados top line.
  19. Agree with everything. I would also add that Briere has only one year left on his contract and the money between him and PA cap wise is a wash. PA has two years left.
  20. who cares- just getting the cap relief and the person moved would be great.
  21. Are we at the outback steak house getting out bloomin' onions (wretched things that they are).
  22. If thats the case, then in reading the verbiage from capgeek that you listed, it would seem that he had to have waived his NTC which was in effect 2013-2014 in order to move the Flyers. If that is so, then wouldn't that nullify the modified NTC for the 2014-2015 year?
  23. I see your point now. What distinguishes the 2013-2014 season v. the 2014-2015 season? is it the conclusion of the Stanley Cup?
  24. As I learned today, the modified means he can list the teams he is willing to be traded to. Cap geek is still showing him with the lock sign meaning he can not be traded without a say.
  25. Thanks (figured it out in the interim ....in reading about Spezza). cheers
