Flyers need to hit a HR with 7, not a bloop single. Draft him if he is there.

Why would you blame anyone for not wanting to play for the Flyers? They're losers and will be for years. What 32 year old wants that?

Subject to the final deal, this is giving me more faith in Briere than even the Provorov deal. Realizing that no matter what they are going to be terrible for the next 2-3 years and using cap space they don't need to grab assets that will help down the road is smart.

I'm more than fine with retaining 3 mill of KH contract and getting a 7th or even future considerations...ie you might owe us a slight upgrade if we make a deal under the Briere regime...lol.
I remember when we got Hayes...it was split 50/50 on whether it was a good deal. FC was rather outspoken on it sucking and even warned it would screw us over! Amazing how spot on FC has been through the years!
Ahem! My first post on this site, prompted by Hayes signing:

Agreed on that, but if it's 17, a 2nd and a prospect and/or another 2nd - you're getting into me taking it territory.
Edit: That was to radoran.

Nobody wants him gone more than me* but you’re missing the point. Either that or for some reason you refuse to accept it. The point is Hayes’ value is higher than $3.55mil. Not to you or me, not to the Flyers but to some desperate GM. Fletcher isn’t the only fool out there (though he is the champion).
*and @flyercanuck
I will believe it when Hayes is on another team and the Flyers aren’t retaining 50%. Until then, I don’t see it.
-
I don't think you could do the retention based on player stats, but you could do the picks around a player stat. Maybe some stat Hayes is likely to achieve like 6 donuts per day?
-
You're not getting rid of Hayes without including a pick with him, unless you retain max salary (50%) and even then, you're not getting more than a third I would guess. I would do that deal in a heartbeat.
What I won't do is any deal where we are extending his cap hit (such as a buyout would) or including assets with him to make it happen.

That's not a bad interview at all. "Too much patchwork" is a pretty good description of the last 15 years.
-
NGAF about the cap is how they signed him for $7M in the first place.
-
Because who cares what their cap situation is while they are going to be bad? I care about the cap situation after that, when we all hope things have turned around and they can compete again. I put that at least three years away. You could buy him out then for less of a hit as well.

"Cancer" is a strong word but in Hayes' case it fits. Not because he's a bad guy or he's stirring up trouble in the room but because A) he can't fu--ing play! and B) he's way overpaid and that alone is cancerous to a team.
Nobody wants a $7.1mil 45-pt guy but the Flyers are stuck with him. They have to correct that.
I hated the Kevin Hayes signing so bad it made me sign up for this site. My Kevin Hayes sux bona fides are impeccable.
I absolutely agree to get rid of him if it doesn't cost you anything. But I don't spend cap space on players who aren't playing for you anymore, especially if patience will get him off the cap sooner. -
Because patience is better in the long run.
But Flyers fans want everything immediately, I get it.

Bro if we have to sweat 1.6 mill cap hit I hate to inform you something went way way wrong before then.
I want him gone we'll worry about the 1.6 mill in cap space when it happens.
You sound like the guy who negotiated the contract in the first place, “bro”.
-
Buying him out is a bad idea. You’re hoping to be good in the last years of the buyout when you take the cap hit and you will need the cap space then. You don’t need the cap space the next couple years when they aren’t completing for anything.

I would trade him to Pittsburgh if they gave us enough, because I think they are going to be bad in a year or two and those could be high picks.

With Sanheim's contract, they would have to give up a pick to trade him - they certainly aren't getting #12 back.

I don't think you're getting anything for him unless he plays well leading up to the deadline.

Where did I once say over pay?
I don't know what the fair market value is for the #2 but Fantilli is a top line center they need.
Be aggressive it is a rebuild and it will take a few years so go get the guy now.
Sure whatever but we have seen it time ans time again they can get inside the top 3 no matter how bad they suck and if they do you get robbed see JVR or even get the #1 and wide up with Nolan Patrick.
Fantilli is there for the taking you just need to be aggressive and go get the kid you said you want to rebuild then sounds scared when it is time to go rebuild.
You're a fence sitter. I get it. There are many like you.
You're just another Flyer fan that isn't patient enough for a real rebuild. Fantilli is your new shiny toy this offseason. There are many like you.

Wait which is the first sentence or the 2nd.
Never seen a fence walker quiet like you.
You're not a politician by chance are.
The 2nd part is exactly what I said get the center and the offer was the starting point very confusing response by you.
Sorry, it was confusing. I was saying that you were suggesting a strategy straight out of the Paul Holmgren playbook: decide the player you want, then (over)pay whatever price it took to get them.
13 minutes ago, OccamsRazor said:Then may finish somewhere between 10th and 12th next year and there is no telling about the next draft.
I don't see this team finishing between 10th and 12th next year unless they find a #1 defenseman and a #1 center loitering outside the Wells Fargo Center. I am fine with this.

i'm not suggesting this is it take it or leave it but first identify the guy you want and now make the trade to go get him.
Lmfao, this is straight out of the foreword of Paul Holmgren's book on being a GM.
Who cares what the cost is? Get your man.

The confusing part though is why we took Peterson. Only makes sense if we are moving Hart.
One thing the Flyers could do is retain salary on Peterson so his salary is more in line with a backup and trade him for a 3rd or 4th.

As exhibited by the fact that LA already used that space extending one of their other defensemen.

-
Maybe both (trade Hart for multiple picks and trade back).

I am laughing at the idea Kevin Hayes is worth more than a sixth at any salary. Dude is a sentient box of Krispy Kreme’s.
I’m just glad we didn’t have to give anything up.
