  1. I got a good chuckle out of that "hey guys, serious question. Do you blah blah blah" response: "are you serious?" awesome
  2. i was going to say the same thing. there's nothing wrong with further tinkering. it's great that many are content with what's there. $#!t, i'm content with what's there if this how the team looks come the start of the season. that said, if improvements can be made why not explore them? i do agree though, do not remove the important pieces at this point, most available moves at this point would more or less be lateral if they required too much from the Flyers.
  3. @radoran my point was that football, is the reason people go crazy about football. college football, ever been to a D1 school's campus for a game? hell, even go to small towns across america and see the crowds that turnout for HIGHSCHOOL?!?! football (ever hear of Friday Night Lights?). I get what you are saying, but revenue sharing isn't what are making the freaks fanatical about local highschool football or college football. it's.... football
  4. I'm sorry man, but I have to disagree. I LOVE HOCKEY and wish it were more popular...but FOOTBALL is what makes the NFL the most popular sports leagues. Football is religion to a vast majority of people. The NFL just figured out how to run the business end of it to perfection, but that is NOT what makes it the most popular sport. To learn the sport as a kid, all you need is a ball, not even a football really, any ball will do of relative size (I used to play football as a kid with a regular ball, not a football because no one had a football, but that didn't stop us). Hockey is VERY different from that. Also, you don't even need the NFL to watch a **** ton of football... ever surf the channels on a Saturday during football season? it's a showcase of college football all over the place. Yeah sure, you could make the argument that those kids are trying to get into the NFL but the bottom line is that all of those games are on TV because people LOVE watching football and will watch just about any team play if they can. To your point though, the NHL could definitely benefit from taking a page or 2 out of the NFL playbook for sure!
  5. don't get me wrong, I don't disagree. I was trying to determine the lesser of the evils. I still was hoping that the Flyers could get away with just sending the picks but the more it is discussed, the more it makes sense that some sort of trade will probably occur as well. A problem I guess of liking almost everyone in the system. I'm not about to say "just give them Walker and Lilja" either 'cause that's just not realistic... but IF they'd take that? haha
  6. I'm down with this. I'm not a fan of losing Mez,though some of the arguments made as to why he'd be expendable (like, how good is his back now) hold water. With the D that we have, I'm not as concerned with watching MAB develop. He showed some good stuff when he first broke the lineup but mysteriously disappeared and my only guess then as to why was the coaches must not have seen enough. I wouldn't mind holding on to Gus but if he HAS to go then so be it. I also think its either or with Voracek and Read (who I know you didn't mention but that's howI feel), though I'm not thrilled about losing either one.
  7. yup. like, I desire a Ferrari, but I'm not about to sell my house to get one
  8. Another quality depth move I loved Harry at the start of the season. 2 way deal to boot. considering how many games he played for the Flyers last year,he could've theoretically looked for an opportunity elsewhere. Good depth move.
  9. I replied with No with the trade. Honestly though, I'm not sure who they'd trade. With it to be for the firsts that the Preds get if they don't match, it'd have to be quality players. I don't have an ideal trade scenario because I'd honestly prefer Homer just let them sit with the picks.
  10. @ruxpin I can appreciate the concern with helping out the smaller markets to compete. Nothing kills a sport worse than lack of parity. It's not fun for anyone if there are only a handful of significant clubs and all the rest are fodder. I thought when the league implemented the cap that they were taking the right steps. A deal like this has highlighted that further steps need to be taken in order to ensure that even the smaller markets have almost the same chance at getting a player as the bigger clubs. The RFA status of a player should be there to protect a team from losing that player to the open market. At the same time though what's to protect the player from getting fleeced by the team who owns his rights (not trying to imply that Weber was about to get fleeced). That's why I still am not sure how this is entirely terrible. But, that's not for me to decide, the new CBA will surely have a lot of these recently discovered issues ironed out. I do continue to stand by the notion, however, that a team shouldn't have it's successes held against them. Corporation owned or not. No one is twisting Comcast's arm to own the Flyers and when a franchise proves to be not worth the investment, they can just as easily be sold by the same corporation. Just ask Comcast how they felt their investment in the Sixers was going http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2011/10/comcast_sells_76ers_to_group_l.html
  11. well, not for nothing, don't big corporations who buy up teams do so because they see a tremendous value in their investment? The Flyers proved to be a tremendous value with huge earning potential so a company bought them to reap the rewards. What's stopping a big corp from making the same investment in the Preds? I don't completely disagree with your points but I still don't see why clubs with money should have that held against them. If the Preds were delivering the kind of revenue that makes them attractive to investment outside ticket sales, like sales of merch, tv ads, rink time books at Predators Skate zones (if they existed) and so on, then they could be attractive to outside investment as well.
  12. well I for one would like to revisit how awesome the WFC's ice is! I did feel bad about being judgmental, it isn't my place to decide what people care about. I actually approach the subject from a different point of view but didn't articulate it. I don't care because I don't want it to hold much weight. It really seems the captaincy is jinxed and therefor let's not worry about it for now. Just get the players in, get the systems worked out and win a freaking cup, screw who wears the C. but that's just me. well, not JUST me but you know what I mean.
  13. alright, sorry to those who do care, I've moved on but it's not up to me to tell others what they should care about... carry on
  14. no idea why this topic even matters... haven't we beat it to death? besides, didn't @pilldoc already start this exact thread minus the poll? why did we need a second one, just bump his...
  15. Nashville has every right to match the offer. the rich shouldn't be punished for being rich. the Flyers didn't come into the league as one of the richest organizations in the league. they build up this company from the ground to what it is now. They alone put themselves in the position to make offers such as this. That's the reward they get for running a successful business.
  16. I'd be pissed at Carle to for a lot of those second chance goals that were scored. He was probably thinking "could you just hit the guy please?" haha, sorry, couldn't resist
  17. that's what I was saying during the season when folks were looking for someone to wear the C since it didn't look like Pronger was coming back. I have zero problem with three As. The real leaders lead anyway, regardless of what's sewn on their sweater.
  18. what's not going to happen? Preds matching? I hope they don't. I'm trying to stay even keeled about this deal right now because getting Weber feels too good to be true... 6 days to go? man, gonna be a long week
  19. with how things went with Richards, I'm not a fan of giving it to young players, no matter how good. Give it to one of the vets and let the young guys just worry about the game. IF the young guys are interested in wearing the C, then it can be the carrot to work towards as opposed to them just getting it and then dealing with the pressure... in other words, let them earn it. as for your hypotheticals, IF THE FLYERS get Weber, I don't mind your layout. Weber has been a C already so for him to eventually get it would be fine. BUT, doesn't Roo kinda own this team right now? Would he get upset if he isn't the heir apparent for the C? Timmo getting the C next does seem like the most logical step. I really wouldn't mind seeing the team do away with the C in the traditional sense.
  20. all this for a player they might already know doesn't want to be there anymore.
