  1. @hf101 I don't what the Sixers' lease is, but throw enough money around and you can buy your way out of anything, so that may not really be much of an impediment. I'm pretty much ambivalent when it coms to the Sixers, but just on principle I would hate to see them relocate.
  2. Group led by the Sixers owner????? Buy the Devils and get your carpet bagging ass up the turnpike. I don't follow the NBA but I can't imagine a Philly team and a NY team being owned the same turd, that's just offensive....yes I said NY, the Devils are a NY franchise they tried to shove down Jersey's throat
  3. @hf101 The whole rivalry night thing is a good idea, just make the games rivalries of the present or the past.....not a made up marketing gimmick to fake Detroit and Buffalo into thinking there has ever been a rivalry between the Wings and Sabres. And when they say this in the article, which came from NBC's website: "The rivalry night coverage will also feature one team from north of the border – the Montreal Canadiens will host the Bruins on March 12." Um, we got one team from Canada on one night? I guess EDM-CAL, TOR-DET, MON-TOR, et al won't be featured.
  4. @jammer2 As much as I loathe ESPN, at least they knew what they were doing when they handled broadcasting games. NBC comes off like they have no idea about the product they're delivering.
  5. http://www.azcentral.com/community/glendale/articles/20130716state-opens-meeting-law-probe-glendale.html State opens meeting law probe of Glendale By Paul Giblin The Republic | azcentral.com Fri Jul 19, 2013 5:16 PM The State Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation into possible violations of Arizona’s Open Meeting Law by the Glendale City Council. The investigation focuses on a series of private back-to-back meetings at Glendale City Hall among council members, National Hockey League executives and the prospective buyers of the Phoenix Coyotes franchise on May 28. The Attorney General’s Office launched the investigation in response to several complaints, according to a July 2 letter by Assistant Attorney General Christopher Munns to interim City Manager Dick Bowers. “The complaints allege that the council violated the Open Meetings Law by conducting sequential meetings of council members in a number less than a quorum in order to discuss official town business without needing to comply with the requirements of the law,” Munns states in the letter. Munns asked Bowers to provide additional information about the serial meetings by July 26. The Arizona Republic, which wrote about the potential violation last month, obtained Munns’ letter through a public records request. Attorney general spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham declined to specify how many people filed complaints about the matter. “It’s an ongoing investigation, so we won’t be making any comments about it,” she said. In general, Open Meeting Law investigations take one to six months to complete, Grisham said. If violations are found, penalties could include fines of as much as $500 per person, assessment of the state’s attorney fees and removal from public office, according to the Attorney General’s Office. Six of the council’s seven members participated in the serial meetings, but in groups of one, two and three, which maneuvered around the Open Meeting Law by avoiding a four-member quorum. The meetings set into motion negotiations that resulted in the council approving a 15-year, $225 million contract with the prospective Coyotes owners to operate Jobing.com Arena, where the team has played since 2003. The council approved the contract on a 4-3 vote on the day the Attorney General’s Office opened the investigation. Munns’ letter notes that no agendas were posted for the serial meetings, nor were minutes from the meetings made available for the public. Councilwoman Norma Alvarez was invited to one meeting, but declined to attend. Later, she criticized her colleagues. Glendale interim City Attorney Nick DiPiazza said he interviewed the council members who participated in the meetings and is preparing a response to the Attorney General’s Office. “I don’t believe any meetings were conducted within the meaning of a meeting under the Arizona Open Meeting Law,” he told The Republic. “The meetings were — as described by council members — meet and greet. They were introductions and I don’t believe any business was conducted and I don’t believe any violations of the law were intended or occurred.” Mayor Jerry Weiers previously told The Republic that the prospective Coyotes buyers outlined their financial requirements in broad terms during the private meeting he attended. Glendale resident Ken Sturgis, who said he filed a complaint, believes the private meetings amounted to far more than introductory sessions. “It’s hard to believe that this kind of contract that was put together and presented later wasn’t talked about. I find that very hard to believe,” he said.
  6. Hmmm....didn't know Buffalo and Detroit was such a big rivalry NBC Sports Network going big with NHL rivalries next season Cam Tucker Jul 20, 2013, 1:00 AM EDT The NBC Sports Network will exclusively showcase some of the fiercest and historic rivalries in the National Hockey League this upcoming season. NBC Sports Group announced Friday that the network will carry 24 games throughout the 2013-14 campaign as part of its exclusive Wednesday Night Rivalry coverage, which returns for a second consecutive season. The Buffalo Sabres and Detroit Red Wings have the honor of beginning the weekly rivalry night, as they battle on Oct. 2. Perhaps the most talked about rivalry game in the opening month of the season will be between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 30. That night will mark the return of Jarome Iginla to Pittsburgh, where he was traded in a blockbuster deal prior to the April deadline this past season. Iginla, of course, signed with the Bruins – the team he declined a trade to before approving the move to Pittsburgh – as an unrestricted free agent. Oh, the intrigue. The rivalry night coverage will also feature one team from north of the border – the Montreal Canadiens will host the Bruins on March 12. Of all the rivalries in the NHL, the Canadiens and Bruins might have the most longstanding contempt for each other, dating well back to the Original Six era.
  7. If only Tim Kerr was healthy in the '87 finals If only Bernie was healthy in '76 If only Bernie didn't take that stick in the eye in '79
  8. Metropolitan???? This is a joke, right? How about Adams, Smythe, Norris & Patrick? Has a nice ring to it
  9. Oh yes, to play them is to hate them.
  10. Yeah that story about Mrs podes and the Viking helmet sounds like some scary ****.....no wonder he converted to sheep, much safer
  11. Yeah you left a few d-bags off the list but that covers it pretty well, basically blocker and Howie are ok, anybody else could be a ticking time bomb of alcohol-fueled schizophrenia waiting to erupt like my sphincter on burrito night.
  12. Careful what you wish for.....I like women with big butts, live music, beer, smokin the occasional doob, and people who hate the stinkin Rangers....you DO hate the stinkin Rangers right???? You'll learn more over time by reading my sophomoric and futile posts.....kinda like this one. Oh yeah Polaris is a Penguin fan cop and ruxpin is a smarmy prik. Radoran used to write for Sports Illustrated....or was it the Poughkeepsie daily news, I always forget.
  13. @fanaticV3.0 I felt the same way this year. In fact, in our disgust Dad and I gave up the season tix in December out of sheer disgust. I'm always a hockey fan, and I'm always a Flyers fan, but we just decided these priks didn't deserve our STH money last year....and this year is still in question.
  14. I can't give a cogent reason for why this is or isn't good for the Flyers. I'm just glad my favorite post- Broad Street Bullies Flyer is back.
  15. Two Cups, beat the best team in the world in '76, brilliant innovator. It's about time.
  16. No on both. Lindros is right on the cusp. Brind Amour was a very good but not great player. He *was*, however, a great leader.
  17. I don't know how not having a quality #1 goaltender and no prospects of signing one puts them in a position to go "all in" this season. In this case all in means more young talent squandered and shipped off for more bloated old guy contracts. Same as it ever was.
  18. Wonder if they'll still boo him every time he touches the puck
  19. No. Just sign Ray Emery to a one year deal and get it over with. No Thomas. No Lecavelier. No overpaying in a trade for Ryan.
  20. I kinda hope he ends up back in the KHL. Hate to see him go to another NHL team and win a Vezina, that would suck. I mean, can you imagine how embarrassing that would be if GM made that mistake? Yup, if that ever happened people would definitely lose their jobs. Sarcasm ninja font with an angry face.
  21. @jammer2 Yeah why exactly weren't we in on that?
  22. From Broad Street Hockey: NHL Draft 2013: Flyers waste No. 71 pick on Tyrell Goulbourne By Travis Hughes on Jun 30 2013, 8:00p Tyrell Goulbourne, a tough guy from the WHL, has been selected by the Flyers in the third round. NEWARK -- The Flyers selected two defensemen with their first two picks in the 2013 NHL Draft, something they hadn't done since the early 1990s. But the more things change, the more they stay the same. With their third round pick at 71st overall, the Flyers selected a head-scratcher of a tough guy in Tyrell Goulbourne, a winger from Kelowna of the Western Hockey League. ISS is the only draft guide we checked that even bothered to list Goulbourne attributes, ranking him 171st overall among all prospects. Again, the Flyers took him 71st overall -- 100 picks ahead of where he was projected. In that ISS guide, it summed up Goulbourne pretty clearly: Gritty hard working forward Good Skater Willing to go through the wall Works hard up and down the ice Teammates love him Willingness to block shots Great character leader Warrior Tough and respected The Flyers just used a third-round pick on another Zac Rinaldo, basically. Or, perhaps worse, another Garrett Klotz, who they selected with their third-round pick in 2007. Klotz is now an ECHL regular at age 24. There was a lot of talent on the board still at this stage of the draft, so it's frustrating that the Flyers wasted a pick on a guy like Goulbourne. If they wanted him this badly, he probably would've been there in two or three rounds.
  23. Ha you may well be right, I'm just bustin a few collective stones.....
  24. I've never seen him play, but I'm sure he's terrible! : )
