Honestly, it didn't cost us in players to sign him, I'm ok if we dump vlc for a bag of pucks and pick up part of his salary. He's taking up space on the roster and the Cap. He's not a fit here. 5 mil can't be on the 4th line.

Exactly. That's the intensity we never saw here. It's why I always looked at him as a floater. He's changed his ways. Good for him. But its tough to watch.

Well stated rad.

Just for the record.
This "inconsistent" player put up
29/53 as a 23 year old and then
46/84
33/61
36/66
Before being traded.
The "not clutch" performer who came back in 2010 recovering from a broken foot to score the series-clinching goal against the Habs?
There is a lot of revisionist history about the Crater and Richards era. I don't for a second regret the trades, but I don't need them to be worthless or to discount their contributions while they were here to feel that way.
I don't devalue his contributions nor nor did I say he was worthless. I'm railing against this mentality that because a player goes on to great things, that somehow that means he was doing it along. I'm not ripping the dude, he always had decent numbers, but I'm sorry one clutch goal doesn't make him Mr Clutch. That's a guy that would have buried the puck into a yawning net in Game 6 of the Final that same year. I said he was not a "consistent clutch performer" when he was here and I stand by that. To say he was clutch then IS revising history.
Serious question, do you think Carter was then the player he is now?
-
You mean the common perceptions of what he actually was/wasn't doing three years ago in Philly, which was being a good but not great player? That was three years, not 3 months ago, right? Yes, he's become in LA what he wasn't here, a consistent and clutch performer, does the chiding of his detractors from his Philly days ever end. **** gets old after the 473rd time. People talk like he was doing this all along but we fools just couldn't see it. Congratulations to him, hope he continues to have success. Even though it means we'll have to continue suffereing revisionist historians who now supposedly knew it all along.

Hideous. Unfortunately this type of crap is getting worse, maybe I'm just noticing it more but this year's playoffs seem to have set new standards for acting skills. The Rags-Habs series was one of the worst flopping displays I've seen outside of a soccer pitch, both teams were guilty of douchebaggery of the highest order.
I honestly wish the league reviewed that kind of stuff the way it reviews illegal/dangerous hits. One game suspension for the phantom head snap sounds about right. Nope, I'm not joking.
-
BRick, as much I'd love to see the Rags get swept, I can't agree that they're up against it to win a single game in the series. I understand the line of thinking that they may have shot their wad running on emotion, with a Game 1 loss in OT being a big deflater.....but to paraphrase you, "They got Lundqvuist baby!" The Kings are clearly the better team, but I expect the Rags to be playing for their lives Saturday, and it kills me to say it, but they've shown alot of character in the last month and a half. I don't see them rolling over.
-
I think if the kings take big series lead by game 4 we will see Carcillo.
So, if the Kings are up 3 zip, they'll bring Carcillo in to flop around and goon it up and make themselves an embarrassment? I'm gonna bet the no on that one

Absolutely agree, the definition of a dynasty right there. Won multiple Cups in a short window, were right there multiple other times but were beaten by quality Cup champion teams.
The Hawks and Kings may be diliuting each other's chances at being called a dynasty right now.
IMHO the Wings of 97,98, and 02 were a Dynasty. Three cups in that time as well as losing in the finals in 95, and losing the conference finals to eventual cup winner Colorado in both 96 and 99 makes the club a true dynasty.
-
I got over Kings envy. And I hate the Rags with a perfect hate dating back to the 70s. Doesn't suck to be a Flyer fan today any more than it does the other 364

I can't believe that this isn't a joke

wtf I was in at 1:00 on the nose, go through the process, "unable to secure seats at this time" for day 1
I bet these ducats are already on stubhub! Oh well, back to work....

UntilEven if the Flyers win the cup again in my lifetime this 1986-1987 season and team will always be my favorite.Fixed. Thanks Poulin, I still get a chill watchin the Propp's Game 6 tying goal and JJ's game winner. Not pictured, but the final sequence where Hexy goes to fire the the puck out of the zone, Messier jumps up and catches the puck and walks right in on net.....and Hexy stones him twice for the win....yeah I remember the Bullies and the parades as a 6/7 year old, but that 86-87 team was mine

if you, manage to get one for r1 let me know and we can meet up
Will do!
-
I got my ticket for round 1
Ah yes, I figured as much!
-
Thanks AJ, looks like I'll get back in cyber-queue tomorrow
-
Being in the pool of non-season ticket holders (which still sounds weird for me to say out loud) Day 1 Friday night was already gone whe it was my turn, but I did get a few for Rounds 2 through 7 .....figured what the hey, take the kids up, something you don't really get the chance to catch in person. Plus free is always the perfect price!
Anyone else heading up, either day?

I can't believe it's been 5 years already. Alotta tragedy around that 80's club. RIP 25

as long as Plekanec/Subban/Briere are still playing, this thread should absolutely thrive. It is sickening to watch these refs continue to not call the dives perpetrated by the same individuals game after game.
Well, 1 out of a thousand isn't bad........I roared with laughter last night when this got called, even if it did benefit the stinkin' Rangers
-
I suspect Trotz will get these guys to play a team concept with better D.
I would agree with that assessment, I wonder how the most selfish player in the history of sports will respond.....Maybe Ovie decides his teammates and winning a Cup are both actually important to him, but i wouldn't bet on it.
-
Personally I'd go with 83, the year I smoked my first......which is so long ago that the pratice of stuffing a blunt hadn't even been invented yet

I think there's no doubt that the NHL/NBC are going to promote the best player in the game and that utterly hatable team she plays for, but whether it's overboard or not is for someone with more objectivity than me to judge. I mean seriously, every time I see that horse toothed goofy jackass's face I want to slap a baby, so I am no position to judge whether the NBC is rooting for the Pens....but it would also seem obvious that the Pens are better ratings draw, so......

Flyers-Penguins in State College. THAT is the game they should be playing.

I got an early present. Last Thursday, the health center allowed me to bring my wife home.
Dunno how long it'll last, but I've learned to take things a day at a time.
Wish everyone happy holidays.
Holidays are Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years and the world juniors.
That's great news @blocker , very happy for both of you

We are Going for Freedom Fries: Bellemare Signing
in Philadelphia Flyers
Posted
Now that's funny. Don't forget about Freedom Toast!
I don't see this signing as aimed the big club, whoever said leadership for the Phantoms is dead on. At 29 if he was NHL level talent he woulda come across the pond alot sooner. Is an AHL paycheck better than what he was making in Sweden?
