  1. You're right good scouting should find players with middle six and bottom pair ability. In Laughton's case the FO mentioned his intangibles being more valuable to the Flyers. I think, again, this non-move was more about the team culture. And it was determined Laughton was more valuble in the room than acquiring a 13th pick in this draft. Laughton was a first rounder. He's been leaned on very heavily by this management group, they've said as much. They may trade him once the season is over, but Danny said he felt they owed him an opportunity to finish out the year with the team that was in playoff position. I don't think teams were offering up 1st picks for him. Danny said he wasn't trading Laughton for fair value. Which is what you are saying you'd like to see done .
  2. They see it. They've said so. I think this rebuild is going to take some time. I think this because those guys have said it. The rebuild was never going to take one trade deadline. There are a bunch of keepers on this team. Guys got hurt at inopportune times. Dressing an 50% AHL defense after the TDL would be the way to **** the culture they're trying to build. People need to get the **** up off that Johnson deal. They have 11 picks in the draft. They put an asset to immediate use. Johnson has no future here. People are posting as if they think Briere and Jones are morons who like Johnson and that is who they're rebuilding around. That's the way these posts read. I can guarantee-damn-tee there aren't thinking like that. They threw a bone to an over performing roster. That's it.
  3. And that can still happen around the draft and free agency.
  4. In the case of Scott Laughton, here's another example of why the sports business sucks. That dude is very well thought of by everyone in the organization and most fans excluding our beloved @CoachX They leaned on him to try to pilot through the lazy Hasey locker room, is there a charity we need to have a player support? Get Laughts. He is respected and beloved by his teammates, admired by his employers. I understand why they set the asking price high. It's not like trading 2 heads of cattle for a horse. Plus he had term on his contract, I wouldn't trade a guy like that for a 2nd and a B prospect. This coming year at the deadline, if he and his expriring contract are not traded, that's malpractice.
  5. Has he played NHL minutes ? yes? Not a miss, compared to O'Brien... ****** home run!!!!
  6. @RonJeremy I didn't say he was trash. I said he's not the reason they're good. @radoran Had any of the POWs taken after O'Brien even made the AHL that would be more of a benefit to the organization. I don't understand the fixation with, "yeah but no one else was better" okay, Morin barely made the AHL, O'Brien was a non-factor- never playing a professional minute for the club. Same with Patrick. Dudes playing somewhere in the system is better than scratching guys off the 50 contract list with a DNP for life beside their name. That scenario happened for too many of the Flyers top picks, taken at various positions, top 5, top 10 , top 20. It's not soley why we're here, *gestures broadly * but it helped.
  7. that kid was a project, same with Morin. Missing on those guys certainly didn't help anything.
  8. Yet those players are not the players leading that team in any capacity. It's Bread , Mica, Krieder and Fox. Oh let's not forget Igor Shesterkin who is a one-man winning streak. I mean Lafreniere is a nice player but he's not the guy leading the renaissance on the Rangers. Same with goes for Kaapo Kakko. Without the "olds" that team isn't leading anything.
  9. @GratefulFlyers I think it can, there needs to be some luck involved. With some luck the Flyers could be healthy Patrick 1, healthy Couturier 2, Frost, Laughton down the middle. Had it panned out, that would be pretty strong imo. Patrick was top 5 talent, Couturier was top 10 talent...I think teams need some guys with that pedigree, the Flyers have some of those guys in the system and on the roster taken in those positions. I'm biased because other teams i cheer for have been really bad for really long stretches. Only after 25 years of abject, soul crushing failure have the Baltimore Orioles maybe turned a corner. The Sixers have been bad and under achieving for too long. The idea that oh just suck for a few years and everything will be fine hasn't worked for teams I like. So when i see the tear it all down school of thought, I'm always careful what you wish for. Another thing that hasn't helped was missing on some guys, O'Brien, Morin come to mind. Those missed first picks hurt the organization's depth. The scouts need to get it right and the FO needs to hit on their chances in trades and free agency as well. I know the general public doesn't value culture nearly as much as the guys in the decision chairs do, I like the direction of the culture of the team. Now there needs to be an influx of talent to get the most out of the culture.
  10. @flyercanuck not that there's anything wrong with that! Games like the recent whuppin's by the Lightning and Leaves really highlight the talent disparity. The Flyers do have some top 10 talent on the roster, some of them aren't dressing right now, but it is clear more very good players are needed. If we see it, I'm sure Danny and Keith do too. Trying to walk a middle path is difficult, I prefer what I'm seeing the Flyers do to what I've seen the Sixers and Orioles do, which has been "be terrible for decades".
  11. Games like this one highlight the talent disparity between the scrappy hard-working Flyers and guys who are great at hockey see: Matthews,Auston If we can see it I know Daniel and Keith can see it. I'd like to see these the Danny Jonesy get creative this offseason and raise the talent level some more. There are some good players on this team. But if the team isn't playing it's B+ game they aren't winning. The Flyers have been smoked by teams with more talent that could only muster their C game this season, Colorado and Tampa come to mind immediately. More talent is definitely needed. @Howie58 is there anything new about Michkov that makes you think he will not come over? Or is this a reiteration of a long-held suspicion? To me, I don't see why Michkov wouldn't come to the best league in the world to play hockey.
  12. @SCFlyguy I think Tyson Foerster has more to his game. He's not a finished product, his shot is elite and he's strong as hell on the puck. I think if he nears his ceiling we'll be pretty happy. There is a lot to like about that kid. Joel Farabee will be a solid middle six guy, Owen Tippett has game breaking ability. @BobbyClarkeFan16 has mentioned a very solid potential top 4. I think the reason they have over achieved this season, aside from their f' all attitude is these young guys are developing into better than projected players. They may take a step back next season development is never linear, so the Flyers first will be a higher pick in a better draft. They can use assets to trade for a "horse". Comcast has money. You're smart, you can come up with some scenarios too I'm sure. @radoran's desire to see some creativity in the offseason may be answered by the FO. Briere did get a first for Walker and no one thought that was happening. He was creative in using his cap space to recoup the 25 5th rounder. Danny seems like a bright mind when it comes to this job.
  13. It was Tori Krug who used his NMC to block a trade to the Flyers for Sanhiem last summer. It's nothing current or new, but did happen. His team sucks but at least he and Haysey can get good barbeque together . Those miserable bastards
  14. Glad to see you back around and posting again.
  15. @OccamsRazor I'm intrigued by the Gurianov trade. He's still pretty young, he's big and fast and has a good hard shot. He's only 26, whether or not he'll buy into to Fonzie's program who knows. Maybe he and Allison are truly "change of scenery" players. This feels like a nibbling around the edges deal that could wind up being an okay hockey trade. If both players wake up to the reality of their situations
  16. I think this has some merit especially with a polarizing coach who seems pretty well entrenched. Certain guys aren't going to want to sign up for his program. See Hayes, Kevin and Johansen, Ryan. I'd also like to add, **** that gnat-****-with-a girl's-name-whiny-bitch-defenceman. We just wanted to use him as a salary dump anyway. He can fuxk all the way off forever.
  17. Buddy, you okay? Seeler's deal isn't even 3% of the salary cap. Zero trade protection after the second year. Danny recouped the 5th round pick and used the 4th on an actual NHL defensmen who can walk at the end of the season. Belpido isn't better, Andrae is too young Southeran hasn't sniffed a call up. There's starting to be fewer healthy defenseman than there are centermen in the system. It's fine to not like the moves. I really don't understand where the hyperbole is coming from though. The GM added a valuable asset for the future at this trade deadline. Signed a coach's favorite to a modest contract with outs. He used a fourth pick to show his over-performing team he believes in them. His moves are far from clueless or wreckless.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if Attard does play some significant minutes down the stretch. I think maybe this is in addition to @radoran 's theory, is also a hedge on Ginning who in spite of that great hit was -1 and got ****** caved when he was on the ice. his X/g was in the 20s. Ronnies' was in the high 50s. Ginning's eye test looked good, but a lot of the Panther's cycle game got going when big 50 was out there.
  19. I don't see what is so bewildering. He turned found money into a first. Had a top 5 (on this team) go to the IR the same week as the trade deadline. That injury on top of 2 other Defensive injuries. He wanted an NHL player to play hockey and provide depth. If you can't figure out if the team is rebuilding and/or think Eric Johnson and Sean Walker are basically the same. I don't know what anyone can tell you. Maybe you as GM wouldn't reward your team by giving them a shot to stick it in everyone's eye after being told they're **** all season but I guess Danny and Jonesy feel differently. I'll join you for the mutiny when they sign EJ to any sort of contract. But I'm really not going to get worked up over things that may not happen.
  20. I don't mind this. Provided as Howie says, he's not resigned. I think they needed an NHL body and not a Belpedio as was suggested by @jammer2 I don't think the outlook is good for Drysdale, Seeler or Risto, should something happen to Attard or Ginning they'd be really ****ed. i reckon it was good they had a 4th to throw at this situation. It's an asset, but how valuable? this valuable and it was put to decent use. the rebuild is certainly over since this development. certainly is.
  21. I think it would be funny to have 3 teams paying that guy not to play for them.
  22. @OccamsRazor I'd love to see Staal go for a 4th or 5th...Give him another shot on a winner. Fonzie is loyal to him so, I think if Mark asks out they'll try to make it happen. And yeah, no one wants Atkinson, Couturier's deal is a dream crusher. Laughton is our last best hope.
