  1. Ottawa won't, so there's that. Then there's Hayes' 10-team NTC, so there's that, too. If the only way to move Hayes is to have Ottawa trade DeBrincat to the Flyers, then they're not moving Hayes. It's not, and they probably are.
  2. DeBrincat is better than either of those guys... They still don't need him.
  3. Ottawa isn't taking three years of Kevin Hayes for DeBrincat's rights. Not even at a discount. Ottawa will get something of actual value from a team that has plans to re-sign him. This team also needs DeBrincat this year like it needed Gaudreau last year. They don't.
  4. This is it. The Flyers have always had "good" players. They have not had a generational player since Lindros and haven't had a truly "great" player since... Pronger? They have to scuttle the idea of putting together a rag tag group of grizzled vets who finally put it all together in a magical postseason run. I think Briere is doing that.
  5. Which is why it has the Senior Hockey Advisors' "advice" all over it. "Bias for action" "Best available player" "Make a big splash" Sign to indicate your commitment rather than the player's ability Long term commitment to fill a short term hole always pursuing "Make the playoffs and anything can happen"
  6. It was important to have someone who was in Vigneault's corner so they signed him to a seven year deal to cover the ~2 years Vigneault was here. Plus: He had scored 20 goals once! And 50 points, too! Not in the same year, but it did happen! Had to have the best available second line center who would sign. Seven years.
  7. Dude, you were -13 at the end of December. Nine goals. -13. "All Star" - You got a participation trophy at a skills competition. Then you had three points in February. With any luck you will go underwhelm someone else next season.
  8. If his first move is to visit the Senior Advisors' Suite with the same message they brought him, I'm all for it. But, while we're looking at people who are available to be the "seasoned hockey guy" shepherding the newly minted GM Danny Briere - Brian Burke...
  9. 10 Team no trade list. He's also injured, but Arizona exists.
  10. Yeah, and Bedard certainly figures into that. My point is that the Ducks have the better chance at being better in three years based on the metrics - long term commitments, available salary cap space, chance at the 1/2 pick. What Actually Happens is another thing. Flyers win the lottery, Ducks fall to three, and we're having a different conversation.
  11. A betting man would take the 1 in 4 shot for Bedard over the 1/20 shot. But that's why they bounce the ping pong balls. The Ducks also have all of seven guys signed after next season and $38M in cap space going into this offseason. The Flyers have 10 and just $8.8M going into this offseason. That's one team planning for a rebuild and another being forced into it. Meltzer says you can't fix everything in one offseason. Here's hoping Briere gives it his best shot.
  12. If I felt I could predict what would happen in the future, I would have a lot more money.
  13. So, we have a test case for "does tanking work"? The Flyers didn't. The Ducks did. Where are they both in three years?
  14. Colorado/Edmonton as well. Some really good teams out there. And the Leaes are in the playoffs, too.
  15. To Ristolangelo: to spend assets to relieve yourself of an asset to then acquire a new asset and then spend assets to replace the qualities of the asset you paid to get rid of in the first place. Meanwhile, overpay to extend the asset you acquired and be in a position where your organization* might buy out the other asset you paid to acquire while a playoff team paid to acquire the original asset you paid to get rid of. Admittedly of limited use. See: Fletcher, Chuck, "ol' Fletch" 1st, 3 2nds, 3rd, 4th to turn Haag and Ghost into Ristolainen and DeAngelo.
  16. Seeler is far too valuable - it would almost be like trading Cap'n Laughts. Just can't do it.
  17. Some consider it a repressed memory. They apparently can happen in times of great trauma.
  18. I just say they could have kept Ghost and added Chychrun and avoided the entire Ristolangelo thing altogether.
  19. Apparently a (protected) 1st and 2 2nds would have gotten Chychrun, but the Flyers were too busy using a 1st, 3 2nds, a 3rd, and a 4th to turn Ghost and Hagg into Ristolainen and Deangelo. #winnow
  20. Such a shame, I thought he had potential... Like @GratefulFlyers said, you want to ruin Frost, give him an eight year deal. If this team signs anybody to an eight year deal this off season, they're nuts. If they let someone with an "interim" title do it, doubly so. Frost is the poster child for "prove it bridge deal."
  21. I just don't think he's Torts' sort of player. And after six years of being told Claude Giroux was a superstar to build around they're now saying this is a rebuilding situation. Would not at all surprise me if he wants out.
