@jammer2 I guess it couldn't hurt to have him in camp but he's almost 50. Even if he has a good camp I doubt he has enough gas in the tank for an entire season (even as a backup). Still I'll take 50 year old Hasek over Leighton.

Under no circumstances do I ever want to see Leighton back in the O&B. I am ok with anyone other than Leighton. Besides his poor play in the finals two years ago he lied about the injuries he suffered and didn't come clean until after he signed his new deal. I'd rather see a dusty old Roman Čechmánek as a backup than Leighton.

@Podein25 Thanks for posting that list. It gives me something to go off and research! I think this is the first year in a while where I haven't paid any attention to the draft class at all.

I would rather see anyone other than Giroux as the captain. I just don't think he needs the added pressure right now. I agree with giving it to Briere as he's older and been there and done that. I'd rather just see Giroux focusing on hockey and not worrying about being a good captain. That being said I am pretty sure it will be Giroux wearing the C next season. I saw an interview on the local news last night with Ed Snider where he was talking about Giroux being captain material.

I have a few friends from northern Jersey and they call themselves Devils fans. They pay no attention to the Devils unless they make the playoffs and even then they read about the team rather than watch the games. Neither has been to a game in person yet they never fail to remind me that the Devils have won more cups than the Flyers. I don't think the Devils will ever have a supportive fanbase in northern Jersey simply because the fans there do not really pay attention to them and when they do it is at a distance.

Harding might be interesting as a backup. If we could get him in free agency (rather than a trade) I think it would be a solid move.

@pilldoc Oh I agree! Malkin might have made an already bad situation worse. I wonder if Malking or players in the league knew he was suffering from a pre-existing injury. That may have made the decision to slash him. Even if Malkin got called for it (which he didn't) then the damage would have already been done.

Not trying to defend Malkin but someone on WMMR said he spoke with Giroux and that he has been hurt since January. That might explain the drop off in his offense after the all-star break.

If Rinaldo played every night then we would have been on the PK twice as much as we already were. I like Rinaldo but for whatever reason the refs target him and over a 7 game series he would hurt us more than he would help.

Couldn't agree more with this statement. We also had serious injuries to key players along the way and they still exceeded those expectations.

I do think a cup is in our future. Can any of us really say we expected one this season? I know I didn't. I think we have a good young core group of players. They are going to be better next season because of their experience this year (especially with adversity they faced in the post season). If we can manage to keep most of them together and balance them out with some veteran leadership I think we will be right there in 2-3 seasons. Bryz is terrible and we will be stuck with him a while longer. Despite him I think we can win a cup. Niemi proved you don't have to be a great goal tender to win one. It can be done but I definitely would feel better if we bought him out.

I did not expect this team to compete for a SC. Heck after the moves last summer I didn't even know if they would make the post season. I am happy with what this young team did this year and I did expect this to be a rebuilding year. I think this team is only going to get better. We have a young core now and they just had valuable post season experience. The only gloom I see lurking on this team for years to come is in our crease.

I haven't logged into the old forum once since coming over here. It's been great participating in a forum with good moderation (i.e. no trolls).

I never let go of my hate for NJ. Sure the Pens kind of jumped in front of them in recent years but I never forgot how much I hate the Devils!

Is Simmonds hurt or something? He looks soft and completely lost out there. The rest of the team looks gassed too. Time to start juggling line combos because this isn't working. EDIT: Looks like Lavy is already shaking things up. Just saw a line of Jagr, Read and Schenn.

I don't want them to sit anyone but if they do I definitely don't want to see Rinaldo out there. He is too much of a target for the refs. I'd rather see Harry Z or Ben Holmstrom out there than Rinaldo.

FYI they are giving out rally towels to fans going to the game who travel from 30th Street Station.

You could say the same thing about Jagr. They both have cooled off considerably in the post season.
