  1. Last night I exchanged posts with this guy Pavel on Facebook on a Flyers hockey site. He appears to be one of the only living dual Flyer/St.Petersburg fans alive...lol. He was lamenting the yearly losses of talent St.Petersburg has suffered at the hands of the NHL. He mentioned Gusev, Dadonov, Barbanonov (sp?) among others. Hes not as upset with Mitchkov because its the Flyers (I know, crazy huh!) I asked the BIG question in our exchange, can the Flyers pay millions to secure an early release. He said "its possible". Reading between the lines, it appears where Mitchkov actually wants to play carries some weight. Interesting to get Pavel's perspective anyways, as unscientific as it was.
  2. If Hart gets traded and Fedetov comes over (I know, both BIG ifs), I fully expect a really fun open competition at TC.
  3. I remember a buy out situation happening in the past with a Russian team. Not sure who it was or what kinda money got exchanged, but there is some sort of precedent if my memory is correct.
  4. From a Flyers perspective, I'd be most worried about injuries. Should they occur, will they be handled properly? Will he be rushed back to soon? Does St.Petersburg have Defibrillators available...do the road teams all have them? That kinda stuff.
  5. With Nashville buy out of Duchesne an hour ago....they become the 4th team to go under the cap floor. They join the Wings, Arizona and the Ducks ie our main competition. The Wings are so far under they can sign Debrincat and still barely reach the floor. They only have Veleno and one other crap player to sign. In fact, the Wings could afford to take on Yamamoto AND Klostin, only to buy out Yammer. I guess they targeted Klostin for upside and could afford the expenditures. Comcast WAY richer than the Illitches. Something to think about!
  6. Agreed. You're always gonna have contenders going for it, spending be damned. There will always be teams like Ottawa who is want to take that next step and make the playoffs. Arizona, Chicago and Detroit will be our main competition for the rebuild, hopefully more teams get in the cap crunch and Detroit eventually graduates before we are ready to contend. Perhaps Danny always keeps 5 mill on hand to take advantage of trades that can help. In this modern day NHL, prudent will turn into assets 100%.
  7. Just look at Chicago with the Bailey trade. The NYI traded him to the Hawks for a 2nd. They immediately bought him out, essentially "buying" a 2nd rd pick for 5 mill. THAT is what excess cap space can do when rebuilding! Comcast has the deepest pockets in the league, they should be "buying" picks as often as possible. At least we have a GM who is smart enough to implement this kind of essential stuff. Weaponizing cap space is not new, but you gotta have the brains and patience to utter the words rebuild and back it up with cash. Seems like we have both of those now!
  8. Have not been to a Spits game in a while, but I'm certainly gonna circle the London games now!
  9. Actually no...its not unusual. I've been watching the draft since I was a kid. This is the 17th time the Flyers have drafted at least 2 goalies in Entry Drafts: 72-2 74-2 77-4 78-2 82-2 88-3 90-2 91-3 93-2 98-2 01-2 03-2 06-2 08-2 09-2 15-3 Has not happened a lot of late, but for decades its been a thing. Basically throwing spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks.
  10. The highlights looked impressive. Great speed and compete level. All the reports I read were strong character, amazing work ethic, never say die attitude...me like!!!
  11. Seen his name on the list of top European Goalies for the draft. Seems like another smart move to stock up on Goalie prospects. Besides Errson and Fedetov, this seems to be an organizational weak point. Will be even more so if the rumored Hart trade comes to pass. Using the #3+4 picks in this draft can even be interpreted as a precursor to a Hart trade.
  12. Yes, he got shelled in one game particularly. Carson was still the top rated North American Goalie. Just feels like the right move at this point of the draft. Giving away next years 2nd (plus another not so consequential asset) feels right. At this point, all the high end prospects are already gone in the top 50....what is left...high end Goalies.
  13. You want him to come to a brand new Country, brand new culture, brand new language and take the one thing hes great at...playing his position with amazing skill...and make him play a position he's never played? With ALL that overwhelming new stuff being thrown at him in waves, it seems smart to leave the Hockey part alone.
  14. Its still not fully sunk in. Flyers have an ACTUAL superstar. Dont care how it happened, IT HAPPENED!! When I was younger and we won the Lindros trade I got smashed and drunkenly got a Flyers logo tattooed on myself to celebrate. Never regretted the tattoo, but I'm a tad more reserved in my old age...lol. BUT the unbridled excitement was still there ALONG with the satisfaction (and pride) that this management group has the balls to swing for the fences. Like others have said...and I concur, Fletcher NEVER makes this pick....*****!!
  15. Bonk over Perreault. This says 2 things to me. One, there was a real organizational need for a steady, large puck moving d man who can eat valuable minutes. Second...Flyers thought Perreault's outstanding stats were due to being on that line. In other words, he was a passenger that was not capable of driving offense without superstars around him. At least my read.
  16. Agree 100%. Make the lesser talent move if necessary. Let this kid play in his comfort zone.
  17. The important glean from that interview "I know I'm under contract but I intend to come over as soon as possible". Reading the team leaves...it leaves the door open for the Flyers to pay millions and millions to secure an early release. Second important glean, the kid knows the history of the Flyers and was hoping to get drafted by them. Kudos to the Flyer reps who were in that room where he "hit it off" with them. Talk about a major feather in this regimes cap...their personality and lack of phony crap REALLY resonated with this kid!!
  18. The overall lack of 1st round trades was indicative of just how strong this 1st rd was...and how deep it went. My theory is the only way to get into this 1st rd was a steep overpay to make up for what the trading team is missing out on. If this theory is correct, then Danny showed very nice restraint. You dont overpay to accomplish your goals...they have to intersect at the corner marked common sense. It very well could have been very nice restraint.
  19. Yes...Hayes does not fit in a true rebuild. Keeping him would be straight up counter productive to the goal at hand. They *might* have got more at the trade deadline...but huge risk involved here. First sign of lazy play Hayes goes straight to the press box for long periods of time, effectively making him really tough to move with a 2nd season of benching. Its really about the Flyers showing the world they are a unified front. If the coach don't like you, we don't like you...and I'm ok with that. This team has to operate as a cohesive machine. Hopefully Danny does not tolerate lazy play either.
  20. A sure sign the Flyers made a bad and or mediocre trade...my Leaf fan loser friends text or call rubbing it in. Got a few calls/texts after the Hayes trade, none after the Proverov deal. They are strong accurate indicators of how the Flyers did...and yeah...got a **** ton the past 5 years...well, decade. People think Torts was and Hayes fractured relationship was the main driving force here, but hopefully its Danny who will not tolerate lazy play. Hopefully it becomes a thing where lazy and the Flyers never intersect again.
  21. Yes, all the other crap put aside, it gives a young developing player top 6 minutes with quality players. Players like Frost, Cates and Allison could see marked improvement from this shuffle. That is often overlooked when evaluating a trade.
  22. I'm not gonna judge, IF Danny can take on a bad contract for an early 2nd with the cap space saved, its a nice win. Advertising that Torts does not like Hayes and didn't want him back put Danny in a no leverage situation.
