  1. Not to be obtuse, but the way he phrased it, it's just under $9M by my math. I don't know what it is in reality, but he seemed to indicate it was $14M after accounting for Jakes's $3M. So, it's 14M-4.5M-0.9M= $8.6M (not excactly "almost $9M, so he was rounding quite liberally unless the starting amount was actually a bit over $14M). "Assuming restricted free agent Jake Voracek re-signs and his salary bumps to $3 million and Chris Pronger's $4.9 million is moved to the long-term injury list, the Flyers will have approximately $14 million to ."See, I don't *think* he's starting with a blank slate at $14M. He's already accounted for Jake and Pronger to get to the $14. He could be flat out wrong altogether, but I'm just saying his math works the way he wrote it. In any case, I think we have enough left over to get a decent dman or winger.
  2. Now I'm wondering. Assuming we're slotting him for third pairing with Schenn, do you pay a 3rd pairing dman that kind of money? Unless we're wrong about third pairing...
  3. Agreed. I would think that if he's not signed before July 1, he's gone.
  4. I am actually still in the "I don't hate Carle" camp. At this point, though, even money. If Timo continues his downhill trend, it could very well up being him in my dog house. "What have you done for me lately" and all that rot.
  5. Perfect match as the third pairing.
  6. Makes me wonder which is more shocking: hearing this, or that I said something that was true?
  7. This will come as a huge shock, particularly to Flyercanuck, but I really wasn't a huge fan of JVR. That said, in the brief stretches he played well, he was entertaining to watch. We'll miss that JVR. We won't miss the other 90% of the time, however. Like Idaho said, it will probably depend upon the play of Luke, but I don't think we'll miss what little production he brought this past season.
  8. Sorry. I can't say i agree with a single word. I do agree with flyerrod, however.
  9. I'm going to tell my wife you said she looks like a slobbered nose Kuato! (Actually, I have no idea. It was originally a moving gif file and the thing was laughing. With the no-movement clause on this website, the thing is frozen with its mouth open.)
  10. Since when does Homer EVER go long-term (other than kazillion year kazillion dollar NMC contracts)?
  11. I want them to resign Carle if they can, but I'm on board with MD's aversion to the NMC. I would, however, like them to improve the defense in such a way that both Carle and Timonen play less minutes.
  12. You won't get my ire. I like Kronwall. Wish he was a Flyer, actually.
  13. I don't think I see anything illegal here. Terrific check. What exactly was Kaspars looking at that he didn't see him coming?
  14. By the way, I said it off-handedly not long ago on here, but I am absolutely convinced that if Pelle Lindberg had not died prematurely, we would have hated his guts before long. No disrespect in any way intended toward Pelle.
  15. There will never be a respectable goalie in Philly, and it is Philly's fault. Seriously. We can bring anyone in here we want to. They'll be good until they get here and will be crucified by a fan base and a media that likes the taste of goalie blood and enjoys goalie/quarterback controversy like a woman enjoys a soap opera. If the goalie isn't completely destroyed, he'll be okay again after he leaves, but any goalie--so long as they are human--will take roughly 2-3 months to be destroyed. It's why the Eagles will never win a Super Bowl, and it's why the Flyers will never win a Cup, unless they simply get lucky and overcome the goalie like they *almost* did in 2010.
  16. I sympathize with what you're saying. I'm usually right there with you (and still have at least one foot on your boat). But THIS year .. well I didn't think they were built for this year going in (insistence by the team to the contrary--they do have to sell tickets). So with all the rookies, the loss of Pronger, the turnover of the team, etc. I got about as good as *I* was hoping for. Of course, I was hoping for a little bit of dumb luck, but it didn't happen. Unlike when Richards and Carter were rookies and I was promised "the future looks bright," I actually have some hope in it. I didn't care for the Richards/Carter tandem out of the gate and for the only time in 40 years of watching the Flyers I could say I really didn't like the team (I still cheered for the crest, of course). Given the cards in the hand, I don't think this season was a failure--so long as it continues to build on itself. But yeah, eventually 1/30 should come around to the Flyers since we're approaching 40 years here.
  17. Is this Ovechkin killing another coach? He actually got the crap-hole team to win a round in the playoffs after their dreadful start. It's either a "death by Overchicken" or it really was a personal preference to go back to London. Unless the ownership/GM has had a lobotomy/aneurysm.
  18. Then again, Rinaldo gets two minutes just for going out for warmups.
  19. I might sit Jagr and actually dress Rinaldo, just for energy. If not Jagr, I'd consider someone else just to get Rinaldo in there. Just fire up the joint a bit.
  20. Needs not Hockey front if Mr. Bryz in him Better?
  21. Carter with the Cup winner on a feed from Richards. BOOK.IT. (other way around would require a pass from Carter, and we all know THAT isn't gonna happen)
  22. @aziz I really can't disagree with anything in that post.
  23. Is this a joke? I missed it live because I briefly turned the game off after the Devils scored their third. But I just watched this over and over, and for the life of me I can't even figure out why it is a penalty. It looks a bit rough from the live-side camera, but the replay from the opposite side has Zubrus barely being grazed. I have no idea what Shanny will do (he won't either until the wheel stops spinning), but a suspension here would be nuts.
  24. No way. I didn't like Richards and Carter when they were here, so no way I'm going to cheer for them now. I like Quick. I like Brown. Williams is gone long enough that I really don't care either way as far as the ex-Flyer thing goes. Plus, he's already won one. If Gagne were still playing, I still wouldn't cheer for LA, but I think I'd at least feel slightly bad about it. But he's not... When it comes down to it, though, if there's one city I like cheering for LESS than New York, it's Los Angeles. So, LA + Richie + Jeffrey = No way in hell.
