flyercanuck
I wonder if Holmgren is dumb enough to trade for a player he just bought out?
jammer2
@flyercanuck Not sure, but isn't there a rule prohibiting teams from re-acquiring guys they bought out? Not that I think Homer would do that with Danny, but I do remember reading that somewhere...
blocker
I think Briere could help some team. Dunno which team, but he's a pretty good hockey player. Gotta be a fit somewhere.
flyercanuck
@jammer2 You can't re-sign them. But I'm pretty sure you could trade for them if you're stupid enough.
radoran
The team cannot re-acquire a player they have bought out. Stops teams from making "deals" to sign bought out players and trade them back to teams that bought them out.
flyercanuck
@radoran OK that makes sense. Is that the "stop the Holmgren insanity" clause?
radoran
@radoran OK that makes sense. Is that the "stop the Holmgren insanity" clause? No, those are other clauses. The "maximum length of contract" for example. The "maximum disparity between highest paid and lowest paid seasons" The two buyouts.
iban3z
I think the team has to wait a year to acquire a bought out player.
ihabs1993
Listen.Briere has shown some instances with the Canadiens where he can be a valuable player. In the team's recent game against the Lightning, Briere created a few key scoring chances in a very close game while playing on a line with Eller and Galchenyuk. The problem is with coach Therrien. Watch any Canadiens game (where Briere is actually in the lineup) and you will see him with different line mates in any shift after the first period. It's impossible for any player to start to create chemistry when he is with two new players every shift, or he's on the bench. Yes, he is absolutely under performing. But so are a few large contracts on this team; Bourque, Gionta, Desharnais...
flyercanuck
@ihabs1993 Briere was basically a no show his last few seasons in Philly. Ya he'd have the odd good shift, maybe even a game, and he was good in the playoffs. But he was pretty much invisible without the puck, unless of coiurse he was taking a really stupid penalty.
