AN NHL TEAM IN TORONTO COULD BE YOURS FOR - $1.2 BILLION?

The National Hockey League would likely command a record expansion fee worth as much as $1.2 billion for a second franchise in Toronto, sources tell TSN - a sum that would eclipse the previous North American sports record of $700 million that the Houston Texans paid to join the National Football League back in 1999.

While NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has insisted the league in not currently considering expansion or relocation, several senior NHL team sources said expansion - along with the league's strategy to grow international revenue - would be key topics during the NHL board of governors meetings on Sept. 30 in New York.

It's a shame that such a good hockey city has to pay that much to get a real team. Lol

@Irishjim   You can just tell Gary's spin on this is BS. Expansion takes a lot of time, studies, viability, optimal locations...there are so many variables involved. Even if it was 3-4 years away, it would have to be discussed and mulled today.

If I want to know what's really going on, I'll listen to Bettman and believe the opposite. Lol

@B21

This is the NHL it's not about location,location,location

Well not when it comes to teams below Mason-Dixon.  Only a handful of places can command $1.2 billion with a "b" and apparently a 2nd team in Tronno is one of them. ;)
