@AJgoal

"While Sandström is pretty fantastic on the ice, he may well be even a better person off it. While many would build a trophy room around the equipment they used to win the WJC best netminder award, the young Brynäs product instead auctioned his off in the name of Alzheimer’s disease research. A grade-A goalie prospect and seemingly a grade-A human being to boot."

Best part of the article...

Is it just me or have the Flyers really started scouting for guys with real high character? Look at a guy like Provorov, who left his country at 14 to play hockey in North America. Then you've got Laberge and his family health issues and now Sandstrom and his donation tip Alzheimer's. A great group of young guys to root for.

Getr done!!! Can use some center help!!!!!

Sounds like a guy worth taking a look at. Decent size when you take his weight into consideration and I like hearing he has speed and scoring ability.

And the fact he's a FA and 24.

Great observation ...I think you are spot on!

Mark Friedman could possibly be in Lehigh Valley next week if Bowling Green is eliminated. Apparently the rumour is that if Bowling Green is out, Friedman signs his PTO to play in Lehigh Valley and then signs his contract. Yet another disgustingly good defenseman in the pipeline.

Actually it is Hextall that has alluded to this and it's your periphery senses that has caught it, there were a few statements Hextall being on record stating that, that is exactly what part of the requirements for drafting is. One that comes to mind is with Rubstov and the Team Russia doping debacle, when Hexy and the scouts were quoted as looking into a young persons character and values with even going as far as reaching deeper and observing the parental values and character, and German passed in spades. Fully convincing Hexy and the organization that his charater and that of his parental influence is unquestionable and they were 100% confident selecting him to play for the organization. There are a few others, in fact that was also part of the list of things to have in the coaching position, Hextall has done due diligence in putting down on paper and formulating a layout of what should be expected in regards to Flyers Culture and team player personnel characteristics and values.

So Bowling Green lost 3-2.

Their season is over so does Mark Friedman's pro career begin now???

So i hope he joins the Phantoms soon to help with their playoff push.

They are currently without defenseman Hagg and O'Neil out with injuries so they could use the help.

So if he signs his ELC starting next year this should close the door on Mark Alt's Phantom career next year.(No biggie he seems to be just an AHLer anyways)

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Wade Allison's freshman year is over as well. Western Michigan got bounced by Denver 3-1 in a game which he didn't play.

He had a good year hope he rest up and gets ready for his sophomore year next year.

I know it is early and the college playoffs are still going on but there are a few free agents the Flyers need to look into...

Defenseman Mark Friedman to sign with Flyers, skip up senior NCAA season: report

Phantoms can use him.

This is AWESOME news (Friedman signed his contract today - http://www.csnphilly.com/philadelphia-flyers/flyers-sign-defenseman-mark-friedman-entry-level-contract ).

I know people are excited about Phillipe Myers, but I think that Friedman is going to have more of an impact on the big club. Everything that I've seen and read seems to put Friedman in a Dimitry Yushkevich class of defenseman. Not only that, but this is a dude who can appearently bench 300 pounds multiple times and has a bit of a nasty disposition. A tank on ice so to speak. So happy for Friedman. If he becomes anything like Yushkevich was, the Flyers are going to be incredibly happy. This defense and the depth that's in place is ridiculous.

I hope not want't he traded??? :haha2:

Yushkevich was dealt because of his agent, not because he wanted out. Mark Gandler was the cause. Yushkevich was livid too when he was dealt because he wanted to stay in Philadelphia.

Maybe but he was 22 when he was dealt. I hope that doesn't happen before they know what they have.

Glad to hear he signed...more quality depth at the backend is good.

If you're going to compare him to Yushkevich, I'd have to call him a poor mans version. He's nowhere near the Russians size, and that's a factor when you play a physical game in the NHL. I still think Myers is also a much better prospect. But I'm certainly happy to have Friedman stay a Flyer.

I compare him to Yushkevich in that he's got a mean streak like Yushkevich had and Friedman is incredibly strong. Benching 300 pounds and benching it regularly is what's scary about this guy. He doesn't have the weight that Yushkevich had (Yush was 212 pounds, besting Friedman by nearly 20 pounds). With that being said, I think Friedman is a much better skater than Yush was and might be a bit better offensively. Honestly, I could care less if we get any offense from Friedman at this point. If he's good defensively, can move the puck and dish out a few monster hits every now and then, that's a win.

I get that people are high on Myers and I'm not one to say other wise. The number of concussions though in the past 18 months is something that is a bit concerning. As well, I think people underestimate just how good of a prospect Friedman is. He was pretty much the defensive cornerstone in Bowling Green and he really helped turn around that program. I just think when people really get to see him play, they're going to be taken back by how good he really is.

In talking about the Flyers signing Friedman i wonder does this mean Flyers aren't going to sign their 2013 draft picks.

David Drake has some size to him 6-6 190. Sure awful skinny.

It seems that way no mention of them much of anywhere. Might be going to pass or let them play their senior year and see how that goes first. They both from what i gather may even just be bottom pair types on the Phantoms anyways.
