Here is a guy who just loved the game of hockey with every breath he took. A look at some of his accomplishments over the years....

Bill Dineen won the Stanley Cup as a player twice, both times with the Detroit Red Wings in the years 1954 and 1955. He was the Wings 2nd line Right Winger for those Cup years.

In a strange odd quirky twist of fate, Bill Dineen was traded 3 times, all 3 times he was dealt for the exact same player, Bob Bailey.

He was the Patriarch of the Dineen family, fathering 3 sons who all played in the NHL at various times. Gordon, Peter and Kevin were all known for having the same trait as their Dad, a yeoman's work ethic. Kevin of course, was playing for the Flyers while his Dad was the coach, making them a rare father and son combo on the same team at the same time. Kevin went on to be Flyers captain after his Dad was fired.

In 73-74 and 74-75 Bill coached the WHA's Houston Aero's to Avco Cup championships. Later in his coaching career, he would go on to win 3 more championships as a coach, this time with the AHL's Adirondack Wings in 1985-1986 and for a final time in 1989.

RIP Bill, a rink rat from toddler to senior citizen.
