Dust off the cup, its Leighton to the rescue!!

HUGE  trade by the Penguins last night as they dealt spare part forward Josh Archibald to the Coyotes for the immortal Leaky Leighton! Leighton was immediately assigned to SWB in the AHL but as it is only a matter of time until Murray goes down, it wont be long until Leighton brings his considerable skills to an igloo near you.

Heh, okay, now the real trade. Moving Archibald and his NHL contract allowed them to add a much needed defenseman, they traded for underacheiving Jamie Oleksiak of the Dallas Stars for a conditional pick.

Oleksiak was a first rounder a few years ago but the mammoth defender hasnt been a good fit in Dallas, 1 goal and 2 assists and living in the dog house of coach Hitchcock and a regular viewer from the press box as he hasnt grasped the complexities of Hitch's system. In Pittsburgh he will be expected to be a big body moving people from in front of the net and allowing his partner, Letang or Schultz or Maatta depending on who is healthy at a given time to move the puck and join the rush. He is a low risk, medium reward pickup.

As for Leighton, the only way he should ever see the inside of an NHL barn again is if he buys a ticket like the rest of us.

I'm gonna play penguins advocate here and defend Leighton a bit.

To be fair, he has not let in a beach ball in quite a while.

In fact, only TWO beach balls have gotten by him the last five years...not a bad ratio.

And both those times, he was drunk off his arse, so there is that.

Now that he keeps the alcohol to a minimum these days, beach balls are not really a problem for him.

Pucks shot by NHL players, on the other hand, are an entirely different thing.... but that is for another thread.

I am a penguin advocate here...remember that....  :)
