Hey if you have the time can you or some mode around pin this new thread for Phantoms and other Flyer prospect news going forward figured it was time for a new thread.

Thanks.

At this point not sure if there will be a 2020-21 AHL season but the prospect are playing in various different locations and will need a place for those wanting updates.

Anyone feel free to add or comment. Hopefully we have a season.

This kid sounds like he may be ready to come over soon.

Flyers seem to have a goalie prospect log jam on their hands soon. A good problem to have.

From the clip i swear it looks like Kase has grown a inch or two.

  • Bobby Brink's sophomore season with the University of Denver is set to begin on Dec. 2, but he may not be with the team long before joining the U.S. World Junior team.

America players are slated to report for camp in Plymouth, Mich., on Dec. 10, so Brink could play in as many as four NCHC games before his focus shifts to the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship. The 19-year-old forward had one goal and one assist in five games for the United States at last year's tournament. Brink, who was 34th pick in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, had 11 goals and 24 points over 28 contests for the University of Denver last season.

    SCOUTING REPORT
A quick, shifty forward who is quite heady, he has a deadly shot and excellent hockey sense (he knows where to go to score goals). Despite a lack of size and strength, he goes to the tough areas of the ice willingly in order to score. While his heart is big, and he is both feisty and gritty, he will always have to prove himself against bigger opponents as he climbs the ladder.

Long Range Potential: Diminutive but smart, sharpshooting winger with good upside.

Wow! LW Desnoyers scored again on Saturday! He now has 12 goals in 16 games for the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL.

Last season with the Moncton Wildcats he scored 11 goals over 61 games.

An 18 year old developing Flyers prospect from this year's Draft, 5th Round.

A highlight - including a fake between the legs finish -

Noah Cates was pretty good for the US junior team.

Very smart, good wheels always making the right plays...I think he could be a sleeper middle six player in a few years.

I like that he's in a leadership position on his team as a junior.

There are a lot of guys in the system, and the big team is good.

I hate to say it but there's a lot to like about the way the Flyers are situated right now.

Kid is looking good. A Phantom next year??

Guess we'll see.

Awesome! Good find OR. Thanks for sharing. Is Flyers jersey #4 available? 😏 (No - Barry Ashbee)

This 2020-21 season is his second at Michigan. He will play the 2021-22 season with the AHL Phantoms and hopefully be ready for the NHL Flyers in the 2022-23 season at age 21.

Cam York (D)
SCOUTING REPORT
An excellent skater with a very smooth stride, he is adept at joining the rush and putting up points. He also displays very good hockey sense, and he defends his position rather well. Lacks size and strength, so he needs to add more bulk and get physically stronger for the highest level. His quickness and hockey savvy make him a constant threat in transition. Long Range Potential: Swift-skating, talented defenseman with upside.

At the present time, Fletcher/Flahr have the 19 yo York on the Prospect Defence Depth Chart here:

Egor Zamula
Cameron York
Wyatte Wylie
Linus Hogberg
Emil Andrae
Ronald Attard
Mason Millman
Adam Ginning
John St. Ivany
Valeri Vasilyev

I guess this assumes Morin and Friedman are already considered NHL experienced.

In a few seasons, our Flyers may have one of the best mobile 3-zone quality defence groups in the NHL. We may be looking at something like this:

2020-21 Season
Provorov - Gustafsson
Sanheim - Myers (RH) (don't break them up)
Hagg - Braun (RH)
#7 - Friedman (RH)
Ghost - traded

2021-22 Season
Provorov - Gustafsson (re-signed as a UFA)
Sanheim - Myers (RH)
Hagg - Zamula or Zamula - Friedman (RH)
#7 - Hagg or Braun (Hagg may be taken by the Kraken in Expansion Draft)

2022-23 Season
Provorov - Gustafsson
Sanheim - Myers (RH)
York - Zamula
#7 - Hagg or Friedman (RH)

Dynamic 6-man defence.

Last night - Flyers' Bobby Brink with a niffty pass to set-up a PP goal:

Our Flyers traded-up to draft Bobby 'Orr' Brink - - yes, that is his legal middle name given by his father who was a big Bobby Orr fan.

Watch - - Bobby Brink shows off his hockey sense with a nice poke check on Jack St. Ivany, then goes the other way to hit a cutting Isaac Ratcliffe for a goal:

Cam York and Bobby Brink are scheduled to report for Team USA Camp in Plymouth, Mich., on this coming Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020. Both are sure to make the team.

The 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships begin on December 25, and as posted on the other thread (incorrectly, should be here), many games will be on TV on the NHL Network channel.

Thinking about our Flyers' Bobby Brink's chances for the NHL due to his size - - 5-foot-8, 159 pounds, wondered who in the NHL are diminutive and very successful.

Did some research -

Johnny Gaudreau, Calgary Flames, 5-foot-9, 157 pounds

Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins, 5-foot-9, 181 pounds

Tyler Johnson, Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-foot-8, 183 pounds

Cam Atkinson, Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-foot-8, 179 pounds

Conor Sheary, Buffalo Sabres, 5-foot-8, 175 pounds

Mats Zuccarello, Minnesota Wild, 5-foot-8, 179 pounds

Alex DeBrincat, Chicago Blackhawks, 5-foot-7, 165 pounds

It will be fun to watch Brink with Team USA on TV starting on Dec 25.

How do you build a winning NHL Team? Primarily through good drafting, and a few wise UFA signings and trades.

We can thank former GM Hextall and Assistant GM Pryor for sustaining this important drafting approach in spite of criticism and eventual firing. The Flyers prospect pool grew to be one of the best in the NHL. They managed 5 Drafts - 2014 through 2018.

Already we have seen quality young drafted players emerge - - Lindblom, Farabee, Patrick, Frost, Konecny, NAK, Provorov, Sanheim, and Hart.

And, this is one of the reasons that our Flyers have a bright future - - the current highly rated prospect group that will be maturing and coming to the NHL in the next few seasons.

Today, NHLdotcom highlighted our Flyers - - written by the highly respected Adam Kimelman. Not all were drafted by Hextall/Pryor, many have already graduated, but the philosophy holds true.

  • The Philadelphia Flyers have high expectations for Cam York this season and in the future.

The 19-year-old is an under-sized defenseman (5-foot-11, 175 pounds), but he's a dynamic offensive talent. York has already picked up two goals and five assists in eight games with the University of Michigan this season.

He managed to collect 16 points in 30 NCAA games last year, so he's on pace to make a significant improvement in that category.

"He always plays the same, plays with a ton of confidence," Flyers assistant GM Brent Flahr said. "Terrific skater, terrific outlet passer. He's got an offensive dimension, but he's one of those guys that controls the game from the back end.

He's a guy that's really put in the time off the ice here during the break. ... We expect big things from him [this season] for sure."

Bill Meltzer reports today (12/11/20) -

On Thursday, Hockey Canada announced seven cuts from its World Junior Championships selection camp roster. Among the cuts were Flyers 2020 first-round pick Tyson Foerster - -

Foerster was not expected to make the WJC final roster this year. Come next year, when he is 19, he should stand a better chance of earning a spot. He will now await the belated start of the 2020-21 Ontario Hockey League season with his Barrie Colts team.

Earlier this week, Hockey Canada sent home Flyers 2019 fourth-round pick Mason Millman for Covid-related reasons. The 19-year-old Saginaw Spirit (OHL) defenseman was himself considered a longshot for the final WJC roster from the outset.

[Flyers' defenceman Cam York and RW Bobby Brink are expected to make the Team USA. Flyers' 6'8" goalie Ivan Fedotov made Team Russia as one of their 3 goaltenders. Flyers' defenceman Emil Andrae has a chance to make Team Sweden.]

It will be fun for us Flyers fans to watch our valued prospects play in the World Junior Championships on TV (NHL Network) starting on Dec 25.

USA's Players to Watch at the 2021 World Junior Championship

Even with a few missing stars, the United States look primed to challenge for another gold medal.

The Hockey News
December 13, 2020

Cam York, D (Philadelphia Flyers)

York.5.jpg

With Alex Vlasic out of the picture, York's presence is even more important in 2021. The lone returning defenseman from the 2020 world junior squad, York was off to a strong start at the University of Michigan before joining camp, playing alongside projected 2021 No. 1 pick Owen Power on a stout blueline. York is a smart defenseman who doesn't find himself out of position often and he does a fantastic job of setting his forwards up with long stretch passes – his teammates trust him with the puck. He'll get heavy minutes for the Americans.

Bobby Brink, RW (Philadelphia Flyers)

Bobby Brink - 2019 U18 IIHF World Championship Highlights | HD - YouTube

Speaking of Flyers' prospects, Bobby "Orr" Brink (yes, his middle name is Orr) is one of the more intriguing forwards on this deep squad. For a small player at 5-foot-8, Brink brings a type of energy to his game that you can't ignore, and he's always been noticeable when he's suited up for his country internationally. Brink's biggest asset is how he alludes defenseman and sets his teammates up with patience, not willing to throw the puck away to just simply make a play but would rather make the right play instead. He'll be setting up some of the United States' best players in Edmonton.

Dec 15, 2020

Wingers Twarynski and Laczynski have been working out and skating at the team’s Voorhees practice facility for more than two months.

Laczynski played center and both wings at Ohio State, where he had 143 points and a plus-49 rating in 138 career games over four seasons.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Able to play center or wing, Laczynski has skated on the Buckeyes' top forward line each of the last two seasons. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Illinois native is heavy on the puck and plays a responsible 200-foot game.

“He plays a mature two-way game, he’s a proven leader, and we see him as a versatile forward for the Flyers organization going forward," Flyers assistant general manager Brent Flahr said.

During his freshman season at Ohio State, Laczynski beat out some more highly touted prospects to earn a roster spot on Team USA’s gold-medal-winning squad at the 2016-17 World Junior Championships. His ability to adapt to a fourth-line role helped him win the job.

Overall at the NCAA level, Laczynski appeared in 138 games and posted 143 points (48g, 95a) over his four seasons. The Buckeyes reached the Frozen Four in March 28. Laczynski was selected as a second-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten in 2017-18. This season, as a senior, he led his team in scoring after ranking second in his junior year.

Q & A with Flahr -

Do you foresee any of your older first-year pros coming in this season -- Linus Sandin, Wade Allison, and Tanner Laczynski specifically -- to compete for a NHL job this upcoming season? All through are physically mature and 23- or 24-years old.

Brent Flahr (BF): First of all, Laczynski and Allison like you said, and Sandin, they’re older players. They’re physically more mature than typically players that are coming out of junior that are 19, 20 years old. Their mindset coming to camp is to make the team. Whether they’re ready for that, it’s up to them and their performance. At the same time, we expect them to help and challenge the internal competition. In reality I would say, I would assume that each of them are going to play games this year. Hopefully one of them grabs it and makes the best of their opportunity.

With the NHL moving toward the temporary expanded 26-player roster and a taxi squad of 4 players, Laczynski may very well stick with the Flyers to start this new season.

Here is my guess:

Lindblom-Couturier-Voracek
Farabee-Hayes-Konecny
Giroux-Patrick-Sandin (G will settle P and S)
Laughton-Bunnaman-Aube Kubel (ideal AV 4th line)
#13-Raffl

If Patrick not healthy, then Frost at 3C.

Provorov - Gustafsson
Sanheim - Myers (RH) (don't break them up)
Hagg - Braun (RH)
#7 - Friedman (RH)

Hart
Elliott

That is 22.

Add 4 to make the 26-player roster:

JVR LW (until traded)

Ghost D (until traded)

Frost C

Zamula D

Plus the 4-player Taxi Squad:

Twarynski LW

Laczynski C/LW/RW

Allison RW

Lyon G

All IMHO.

Tanner Laczynski
6-1, 205, shoots Right
