Top 100 NHL Players

After some time away from the NHL and only enjoying playoff hockey on TV I am ready to get back into the blog/hockeyforums world. I was reading an article the other day about the top 100 NFL players of 2011-12. That inspired me to put together my own top 100 of current NHL players. I have worked on this for a few days and I'm 99% sure I will not put in someone important. So with your help maybe we can put a list together with all of your input. So without any more delay here is my top 100 N

Mind your own Bryzness!

Last off-season the Flyers brought in Ilya Bryzgalov to solve the dreaded goaltending issue that has been one well, for about as long as I can remember. When news broke that the Flyers acquired Bryz’s rights and then finally signed him, I will admit, I was pretty excited. I agree with most people that his contract length is too long, but if Bryz plays to his full capability, the cap hit of $5.6 million is very reasonable, and I will certainly see the glass as half full rather than half empty.

The Wild Week- Stoner, Coyle and Solar Bears

Though not in the playoffs, it’s been a nice week for the Minnesota Wild. Yesterday, the Wild announced a two year contract extension with defenseman Clayton Stoner. Stoner racked up 5 points in 51 games for the Wild last season, and played well when he was healthy. The durability, unfortunately, has been the biggest problem for Stoner in his career so far. This locks in another member of the Wild Defense Core, which currently includes: Tom Gilbert Marco Scandella Nate Prosser Jared Spurgeon Ste

Is too much scoring depth a bad thing?

At first glance of the title people probably think I am losing my mind, but there is a method to my madness. For the whole year I have been saying one thing about the Flyers, this team lacks the correct makeup. While they are surely on the correct path on building this team to be solid there is still work to be done in my mind. In one of my semesters in college we learned about sports psychology and what the make up of a team is all about. While I do believe the Flyers improved their team bon

NHL ratings on TV. What ifs

As hockey fans we all want good ratings in the NHL Obviously in the eyes of the public a NY vs LA final would have to be good in most sports. I do think it would be good, but would it be better than Philly or St Louis? I hope the ratings are good. I am very disgusted with ESPN for their dealings with the NHL> who needs ESPN anyway? If its a Rangers or Flyers vs Kings final it will be interesting to say the least. Just imagine Richards and Carter vs their old team. If Phoenix and L

Round 2: Results and Predictions

Three game 7's, an 8 over 1 victory, and the cup favorites knocked out... round one was everything we hoped for and then some. While we have about a 20 hour break between rounds here, I thought I would make some more predictions for round two as well as take a look at some correct predictions and some predictions I was WAY off on in the first round. My HOPES for round one were way more accurate than my THINKS for round one. I guess that's what I get for thinking like an analyst. My record for pr

There's Something in the Chowder

In yet another display of the vast intelligence running rampant through the streets of Boston, several fans took to twitter tonight to express their displeasure at their team being eliminated from the finals. Unfortunately they chose to do so in very disgusting manner as they hurled racist comments towards Joel Ward of the Washington Capitals, the man who scored the overtime winner. Joel is black, which apparently doesn’t sit to well with Bruins fans, which is ironic considering the colour of

Why Keeping Luongo makes the most sense

As you are already quite aware, we are both huge Luongo fans. I'm quite certain Ricky may even have some Luongo stuff from when he was an Islander. Needless to say we were both extremely excited when he came to Vancouver and on numerous occasions have had his back when the rest of the market seemingly wanted him gone... I do mean numerous. We'd both be extremely sad to see the best goalie this franchise as ever seen traded away, but that's not the focus here. Not taking anything away from

The Wild’s Biggest Trade Chip?

The Wild’s Biggest Trade Chip? 4-24-2012 We are just under 2 months away from the 2012 NHL Entry draft. The playoffs are in full effect (and so far they have been amazing), and teams are either focused on winning the cup, or the draft and other ways to improve their team. Unfortunately for the Wild, it’s the latter. Right now, Chuck Fletcher, Craig Leipold, and Mike Yeo, are all looking at ways to make the team better, so that this time next year, they are chasing the cup. No doubt that the Wild

Dear Mr. Holland

Dear Mr. Holland, As a long-time fan, it pains me to say it but, "It's time." For more than 20 years, we've watched our team become good, then very good, then great, and then repeat champions; arguably the very best organization in professional hockey if not professional sports. You've had a lot to do with that success. Your innovative, out-of-the-box thinking and drafting strategy made you the leader. You built a team that has been fun to watch and remains fun to watch. You did it using mostly

The Wild Report Card

The Wild Report Card – 4/17/2012 How great have the playoffs been…and it’s only been a week! Every series has been emotional and entertaining, and the hockey has been fantastic. Add into that the start of baseball season and this is truly the greatest time in sports for the year. With that said, it is also the time of the season for reflection for teams that have failed to make the playoffs. Those teams are doing exit interviews, preparing for the draft and free agency, and looking internally fo

A Wild Season… And Playoff Picks

A Wild Season… And Playoff Picks – 4/11/2012 This is a great week to be a hockey fan. We have some great first round match ups that are going to create some classic hockey moments (and undoubtedly some future commercial spots for the NHL and NBCSN). Alas, this week can also be a very cold reminder that your team came up short, and is now a spectator just like us. Such is the case for the Minnesota Wild. The team has missed the playoffs for the past 4 years, and will be drafting 7th overall at th

NHL Point System, The Loser Point

Tonight begins the best playoffs in all of sports. Even the though the Sabres are not part of the tourney, I'm still excited. Anyways I stated in the last blog that I was going to focus on some league issues. Today I am going to start with the point system the NHL has in place, specifically the "loser point". For winning a hockey game via regulation, overtime, or shootout a team is awarded two points in the standings and loser gets zero unless the loss comes in OT or a shootout, in which the

The Best Time of the Year: notes and predictions

Holy Hell. It's like Christmas right now! I love this time of year and as I wrap up my final quarter at college, I hope my grades don't slip as I spend every moment on my laptop in the back of class watching games. Everyone seems to be using this time to make their prediction on what will happen down the stretch. I'm going to start by making some anti-predictions: 1. The Sharks will NOT win the cup this year! Big surprise here, as the playoff failures once again find themselves rolling into the
