Turn Out the Lights on the Playoff Hopes

For the second straight game Buffalo gets the loser point after a shootout loss. In a week of three winable games, Buffalo wins one. Where to begin? I guess lets start with the standings, Buffalo gains a point and sits two behind Washington (three points actually with the tie breaker). Sure mathematically it's not over, but the eye test will tell you different. Let me jump back to March 5th in Winnipeg, a HUGE game Buffalo needed badly. They don't show up and lose 3-1, I let that one go be

Mini Florida Road Trip

I finally dragged myself back to a hockey mindset today after three thrilling days in Buffalo known as the "Mario Party". The Bills signing of Mario Williams has given me new energy to root for a final push by the Sabres. I want to touch on Wednesday's game against the Avalanche. First off Marcus Foligno is showing more and more why Zach Kassian became available in a trade. Foligno has 4 points in 4 NHL games, all 4 coming in his last three games (3 goals 1 assist). To bad the Sabres defens

Sochi 2014 *Part 2: Team Czech Republic

Hey guys, this is a new series from me. I'll be going through all of the 2014 olympic hockey teams and projecting their rosters... remember, this is permitting on whether the NHL decides to go there or not... but if Bettman wants to grow the game like he says he does, he will send Sid and Ovie to Sochi. But anyways, Part 2 is on The Czechs. Enjoy, and please leave a vote and a comment telling me how you like the series! At the end of the series, I'm going to put in my brackets and reveal who I t

Power Outage on the Left Coast?

As Lower Mainland residents woke up this morning morning to a raging wind storm that has knocked out power in a few areas, you have to wonder if this is the same storm that has recently put the Vancouver Canucks in the dark. Vancouver, who is on a lengthy 7 game homestand, are now 2-3 on that homestand, after dropping back to back Saturday night decisions to lowly Buffalo and Montreal, with a win against Winnipeg sandwiched in between. Before this 7 game stand at Rogers Arena, the Canucks schedu

Don't Fire My Coach!

Don't Fire My Coach! - 3/13/2012 The NHL has seen a lot of coaching changes happen this year. The Blues, Blue Jackets, Kings, Ducks, Capitals, Hurricanes, Canadiens, and Maple Leafs have all made in season coaching changes. Some have worked out great (St. Louis is by far the best of this group, with Anaheim having success as well), and some have yielded results that are less desirable (The Caps have been a big disappointment, and Montreal had a huge backlash from fans and media when they hired a

Monday Meltdown: NHL Rulebook M.I.A

It's Monday and you know what that means. BrowntoBure are back with another edition of Monday Meltdown. As you well know, this past weekend was Daylight Savings, where we all set our clocks forward an hour. Unfortunately it seems the NHL lost this message somewhere in translation as they've set the clock back, all the way to the year 2003, the height up the "Dead Puck Era". As of last week the NHL and its' astute officiating crews had called approximately 350 less obstruction related penaltie

Winnable 3 Game Week Starts with the Habs

The Sabres have 3 games this week 2 at home and 1 on the road. If the Sabres want to stay in the race they need to win all 3. Tonight it starts with a visit from the Montreal Canadiens coming off a 4-1 against the struggling Nucks in Vancouver Saturday. Wednesday the Avalanche visit the FN Center and Buffalo then takes a trip to Sunrise to play the Panthers in a BIG playoff type game. All three games MUST win in my opinion. Buffalo received no help on the scoreboard last night with 2-0 wins

Some of the best older posts

So, I haven't put anything new up in about a week. If you want a Leafs update, they haven't scored in two games and I keep falling asleep while my TV is still on. I decided to make a list of some of my favourite posts and some of the most viewed posts on my blog, if you haven't checked them out before, give them a look... They are sorted from oldest to newest. Sochi 2014 *Part 1: Team Russia

Hey guys, this is an idea for a series I literally just thought of... I'll be going through all of the 2014 olympic hockey teams and projecting their rosters... remember, this is permitting on whether the NHL decides to go there or not... but if Bettman wants to grow the game like he says he does, he will send Sid and Ovie to Sochi. Roenick and Sharks Fans: Get a Grip

Last year during the playoffs, Jeremy Roenick spoke out after game 5 against the Red Wings on his hatred for Patrick Marleau's style of hockey. Marleau, pretty much the most consistently great player in Sharks history, was especially outstanding in a game 7 victory a few nights later. Was Marleau actually bad in game 5? No. He got stripped of the puck in his own zone by a magician on the wall (Pavel Datsyuk), then got back to force Datsyuk to pass to the point on an eventual goal. A great p

A Turbulent Night In Phoenix

This is getting a bit ridiculous. This was my thought after Wild goaltender Josh Harding was helped off the ice last night in the 2nd period of the Wild’s Shootout victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. The injury didn’t look serious as Harding was skated off the ice, but looked pretty painful for the 4-5 minutes before Harding left. For those unaware, the Wild’s number one net minder Niklas Backstrom is currently out with a pulled groin. With Harding hurt, the goaltending burden falls to youngster M

First Time Back Since "The Hit"

The Sabres return to TD Garden tonight for the first time since Milan Lucic steam rolled Ryan Miller. Since that game the Sabres are 2-0-1 against Boston in 3 meetings in Buffalo. They have stood up to Boston in all three meetings and have out played them during most of those games. Another story line tonight for Buffalo is that 8th place is on the line with a little help on the out of town scoreboard. First off the goaltending matchup will feature Tim Thomas against most likely Jhonas Enroth

Hurricanes Roll in, Another "Must" Win

The Sabres host the team that stole our cup in 05-06. Will never let that go. Anyways tonight's 4 point match up could be the final nail in the coffin for the Hurricanes or a big step back into the race. Buffalo go help last night with loses by Tampa, Toronto, and Washington. Two of the three teams losing important players to injuries in the process (Garon and Lupul). Now the Sabres have to take advantage of it and make up ground. Tonight could be a tale of two tired teams. Carolina comes

Race for 8th in the East

With a month left in the season and the race for 8th place in the East heating up. I am going to give a break down of the teams that I think will be part of the race. I'll work my way down the current standings starting with 3rd place Florida and then 7th place Ottawa to 12th place Toronto. All teams below Toronto are out of the race in my opinion. Florida Panthers (Currently 3rd) 74 pts 17 games left Away Schedule (9): Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Carolina, Montreal, Minnesota, Co
