Putting Things in Perspective.

Putting Things in Perspective. Oilers Come Back to Town. First, Congrats to Avs for ending the Blackhawks streak. They were prepared and fired up to play the Blackhawks, seeking retribution for Wednesday’s loss at the Madhouse. As I have mentioned many times, the Avs, on the basis of Friday’s and Wednesday's games, is a team that will give the Hawks some problems. As does Anaheim, St. Louis and Vancouver. These teams are all big, fast and physical. You want to know how physical, go back and

Can You Take Me Higher?

Tonight the Mighty Blackhawks are in the Mile High City to take on the Colorado Avalanche. The Blackhawks will be without Sharpie tonight as it has been confirmed via non-Blackhawks sources that Sharpie has a fairly severe AC joint shoulder separation and usually with this type of injury the player is out 3-4 weeks. Additionally, although Big Hoss travelled with the team yesterday, he did participate fully in Friday mornings skate so I expect Hoss to be a game time decision. The Av's are look

NHL Realignment + Mock Draft (Soon)

Hello again! Today we will be covering the confirmed, NHLPA approved plan of realignment. NHLPA executive director Don Fehr released a statement on Thursday, saying, "After discussions with the Executive Board, the NHLPA has given consent to realignment, to be re-evaluated following the 2014-15 season." Major moves include the aging Detroit Red Wings and the dismal Columbus Blue Jackets to the Eastern conference. while the Winnipeg Jets will move back West. The Jets have been playing in the Sou

They did it again!

With 49 ticks left on the game clock, CarBomb put the fans at the Madhouse in Hysteria mode with a dramatic game winning goal. As a result three streaks continue, the Blackhawks consecutive point streak now stands at 30 games, they have an 11 game winning streak and the Razor is the first goalie in NHL history to start the season 10-0-0. However, this win hurts a bit. General Shaw (possible concussion due to a Paul Stastny elbow) and Sharpie (possible shoulder separation) would exit the game

Speechless

Last night was a "Wild" game… First, the Blackhawks Organ-I-zation provided an awesome tribute to Big Hoss playing his 1,000th NHL game. Then the pucked dropped and the game started in sloppy fashion. And with a sloppy start, Shawzam turned the puck over at the Blackhawks blue line which led to the Wild netting the opener. Then the Blackhawks awoke and the dam broke. Or rather, the "Manchild" (Brandon saad) as he is referred to by Tazer set the tone. Saad would tie the game up on his second

Be Gone: The Ryan White Edition

The image to the left perfectly sums up Ryan White's season. White is a gritty player. He hits, goes to the net, goes to the corners, sticks up for his team mates. Sounds like a great 4th line player correct? No. Ryan White has about as much discipline as a 3 year old child. I will go on a limb here, and quote me, but Ryan White is responsible for atleast half of the Habs' 10 losses this season, including tonight's 6-3 loss against the Islanders. The Habs were heading into the 2nd period with a

Moving in the Right Direction

Last week the Sabres showed signs of being an NHL hockey club picking up 7 of 8 points last week with wins against Florida, Tampa, NJ, and shootout loss against the Rangers. I'm still on the side of they are dead in the water however if they go out and take another 5 of 6 points this week against Carolina, NJ, and Philly then maybe they are in business. With the awful start the Sabres sit three points back of the Flyers going into tonight's game with 25 games left. However with teams only pla

"Getting' Wild at the Madhouse"

First, in honor of Big Hoss' 1,000th game this past Sunday against the Dead Wings, the beloved Blackhawks will honor his milestone by wearing commemorative jerseys during warmups and holding a pre-game ceremony tonight. Big Hoss has 921 points during his 15-year NHL career. Many of you know already that he signed with the Blackhawks in the summer of 2009. The commemorative warmup jerseys will include Hossa’s name and number, 81, on the back. Each jersey will be autographed by Hossa and the pl

What more can be said about these Blackhawks?

The Blackhawks and Red Wings played in a classic yesterday and up until about 4 minutes left, when Red Wing Jonathan Ericsson took a delay of game for a puck over the boards, it looked like the Wings, through sheer effort and a stud performance by their tender Jimmy Howard were going to end the Blackhawks consecutive game point streak. But then, no, Kaner scored on the power play with about two minutes to play. Ericsson was seen leaving the sin bin exclaiming, "fv*k". He new he was responsib

Process Asessment

If you follow me on twitter, you are already well aware as to how I feel about the way Alain vigneault has been steering the ship that is the Canucks over his tenure, but more specifically the last year and a half. Today I received this gem, which sums it up perfectly. I honestly could not have better expressed how I feel about the job Vigneault is doing any better myself. So kick back, crack open a pack of your favourite lozenges and enjoy the hell out of this guest article written by K

"Hey We're Streaking"

It only took 12 seconds for the Blackhawks to put the game out of the Blues reach last night in St. Louis and today the Blues are singing the Blues. The Blackhawks faced a little adversity when starting tender, The Crow, left the game after stopping all six St Louis shots in the first period (see below). The Razor replaced him to begin the second period, but the song remained the same for the Blues as Razor put up a brick wall: zero goals. St. Louis presented the most physical opponent the H

Ain't Nobody Leaving without Singing the Blues

That’s the headline going into tonight's Blackhawks/Blues game. One concern that I have is that whichever team is singing the blues after tonight's contest they will not be as hawt as Elisabeth Shue was at singing the blues. The Mighty Blackhawks are in St Louis tonight to take on the Blues, a place where the the Blackhawks have dropped five of their last seven games. This could be one of the stiffest challenges the Blackhawks have faced all year. The first half of this shortened season has b

Shaw-Zam! Diggin for Oil!

A "Shaw-Zam" goes out to Andrew Shaw who scored his 4th goal of the season (his first GWG) that was set up by gritty play by both O-du-ya and Bicks. But it wasn't all good for Shaw. He wasn't feeling too good on the bench after taking a spear right to the family jewels from James Wisniewski. Shaw, who has a reputation growing of being pesky was in a tussel with Wisniewski in the Blue Jackets' goal crease. It was at that point that Shaw delivered a cross-check right to Wisniewski's back, cert

Taking Care of Business

First, Congrats to the Blackhawks on setting the record! At 14-0-3, the Hawks set an NHL record by going 17 straight games without a regulation loss to open a season with the win over San Jose on Friday night. Tonight, the beloved Blackhawks face the 5-11-2 Columbus Blue Jackets who are capping off a six game road trip (going 1-4). To simply look at the team records and one would say that tonight's should be a cake walk for the Hawks. However, the Blue Jackets have a new coach and a new team sl

NHL Record Within Sight!

With their shootout victory over the Canuckleheads on Tuesday night, the beloved Blackhawks tied the record for the most successful start in NHL history (earning at least a point in their first 16 games of the season). They surpassed the 1943-44 Montreal Canadiens, who started the season 11-0-3, the 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers, who started 12-0-3, and have tied the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks who started 12-0-4. What do all of these teams have in common? Well, as I stated before, they all won the Stanl

An elbow for an... elbow?

Remember when Zdeno Chara took ran Max Pacioretty face first into the stanchion or when Shea Weber grabbed the back of Henrik Zetterberg’s face and smashed it off the glass? Two of the most glaring examples of intent to injure ever seen in the NHL, zero suspension. Fast forward to last night in Chicago where Jannik Hansen attempted to make a play that happens several times over the course of every single NHL game (trying to knock a puck out of the air with his hand) when his elbow, inadverten

A New Direction

Tomorrow night at the Air Canada Center against division rival the Toronto Maple Leafs the Buffalo Sabres will have a new coach behind the bench for the first time in 14 years. Lindy Ruff was relieved of his duties today as head coach of the struggling Sabres. Although I've been calling for it and after last night expected it I was still shocked. Ruff coached the Sabres in 1165 games and had a 571-432-78(ties)-84 record for a .559 winning %. He led the Sabres to the playoffs 8 times in 14 ye

Sweet Sixteen?

The beloved Hawks are 60 minutes away from tieing the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks as the only two teams to start a season with 16 games without a regulation loss. Tonight, the Hawks face their Western Conference nemesis, the Vancouver Canucks who open up a four game roadtrip at the Madhouse on Madison. In the first meeting between the two teams at Rogers Arena, Jordan Schroeder scored the only shootout goal to provide the Canucks with a 2-1 shootout victory. The Hawks have gone 2-0-1 in the first t

Accountability

Accountability....I've tossed this word around a lot the past three years in reference to the Buffalo Sabres franchise. In my mind I know who I consider accountable to the Sabres play over the past three seasons, but I don't know who Terry Pegula holds accountable. Last year the Sabres missed the playoffs and Darcy Regier along with Lindy Ruff were handed contract extensions. The only real change made from last years team was trading of Derek Roy. So am I to assume it was Derek Roy's fault t

Shark Bait?

Just not sure bout this Hawks team, I have some concerns. Sure the Hawks own the best record in the NHL but… in my opinion they are not the best team in the NHL. I realize you have to be lucky to be good and good to be lucky but I have a number of concerns with this team and the time to improve and experiment is now, during the season. The Hawk power play, which in spite of all kinds of star power, was awful last year. This young season has seen the Hawks slide to 15th in the league, going 1

Lars Eller: 2nd, 3rd or 4th liner?

Sometime back in the long, long summer of Habs fans' most recent discontent, I thought about compiling a top ten of the best moments from last season. It wasn't easy. It was, after all, a desperately depressing year. Still, after some thought, I did come up with ten small things we could take to heart from 2011-12. It never got published because, in the end, I felt celebrating just ten things in a wasteland of a season seemed a little hopeless. For what it's worth, though, number three in that t

Roasted Duck for Dinner?

The first game back home from long road trip is always dangerous as the Hawks are back at the Madhouse after a successful 4-0-2 roadtrip. Usually the last game of a long road swing and the first game coming back home are difficult challenges. The first half of the challenge was a success and now the Hawks need to take care of the second half. There will be no doubt that an eager crowd will be on hand at the Madhouse on Madison to welcome back the boys in the Indian Crest sweaters. All of you

Can We Expect More Shootouts in 2013?

In this shortened season there will be increased pressure for all teams to earn enough points to have the right to play for Lord Stanley’s Cup. Every game will be important and that means, of course, great hockey for us fans. It also means there could be more games going into overtime as opposed to a full 82 game season. Often a 5 minute overtime is not enough to determine which team earns the extra point. Thus, maybe more than ever before, NHL fans will be on the edge of their seats in anticipa
