I do think the organization should look at ALL candidates instead of sticking with former players/coaches etc when filling positions. Lavi was a recent decision and he did fairly well for a few years at least. I don't think they should've promoted Berube but what do I know.

Like others have said, he's human and perhaps was just that upset at either his or the teams performance (or both). For some ahole to say a "good" captain doesn't do that is unnecessary.

Sometimes I don't understand Flyers fans...some were complaining signing Lecavalier would hinder Schenn and Couturier but now Emery should be fighting Mason for the # 1 job? My opinion is: Mason is still VERY young. He obviously has a ton of talent. He was fantastic his rookie year. I think he played so well for us last season after coming over b/c he saw it as a new beginning. The Flyers, a team that is usually in the hunt for the Cup, thought he was good enough to bring in and possibly take the reigns after ousting Bryz! (Possibly his thoughts, not mine). Now you bring in Emery and people want it to be a "you mess up, you're out!" situation? I loved Emery when he was here and still think he's great. But I'd rather see him used 25% of the time rather than 50%. I'm not saying if Mason plays horribly to start the season, goes 2-8 and has a 3.50 GAA to leave him out there. I just want him to have confidence that if he has a bad game, he's not going to ride the bench for 5 games. Rad, I know you keep pointing out the organization let Bob go because we were coddling Bryz, but Bob wasn't the most consistent goalie here. Perhaps he knew if he had a bad game he'd be riding the bench again. I whole heartedly agree we should have NEVER signed Bryz, and let Bob go with our #1 spot. I just think Mason COULD be that young # 1 we've always wanted and should be given the opportunity to grow here.

I liked emery while he was here, BUT I think Mason should be handed the number one and allowed to have peace of mind. He's young and has a lot of talent and that should be properly groomed.

Who knows, they liked Couts better? But now they saw Vinny, couldn't pass him up (for whatever reason). Couts was disappointing last season? (To some) our depth at forward makes Couts expendable?

Ok, for those saying this will cost us one of our young guys...if holmgren trades a young guy for ANOTHER young guy, doesn't that make it a wash? I think it will come down to Couts and Mez or Coburn traded for a dman. And for the goalie side of it, it seems to me they're comfortable with Mason (who is still very young)and a get backup will be signed hopefully fairly cheap. We should let Mason run with the starters job and hopefully return to his previous form. The last time people were clamoring for a goalie we got Bryz.

Lol no offense taken. I'm not saying losing Couts or Schenn for Lecavalier is a good thing. But if Homer has a deal in the works that sees one of the young centers traded for a young stud dman, a replacement woupd be needed anyway. But I do agree, 5 years of Lecavalier with a 4.5/yr cap hit surely stings. We will have Timo's cap hit gone after next season though.

I think Bogosian would be fair value for Couts. How about Hedman from Tampa?

I hate the length of the contract and the nmc also, BUT...if more moves are coming and Vinny is replacing Couts or Schenn, it's not that bad. (Provided the young center gets us a young dman)

I'm thinking coburn in package for ryan, then coots for young dman, which wouldn't be a bad turn around imo
