What have gotten into some of you? Its one thing that Homer lost it, bringing Luke Schenn, Grossman,Hal Gill to the roster. But defending it and the choice to play Hal freakin washed up Gill is either plain stupidness or hockey ignorance. I dont know why Gus have falled.. but its the oganisations DUTY to set it straight becouse that kid is talended and a very good defenseman.

First of it all its nice to see Cheif handling the coach job very well. Its not easy steppin in like that. And Mason, just amazing season. What do we see here this season. We see a coach going in and saves the season with defensive play. Old style mega defensive hockey. Thats why Girouxe underachive.. well thats why all our forwards underachives. They have to rescue our big,old,slow defense. And Mason.. i have stopped counting how many games he have won for us. Last game was his. I have not seen our defense so slow since Hatcher,Ratje was plying in flyers. You know, that awful pathetic season. Somehow i get the feeling of deja vu. What happend? Here we are again with and old,slow defense. Dont get me wrong, cheif is getting everything out of the defense but its painful to watch Rangers skating around the D and our goalcrease as they were bees around honey. Throwing in Gus wouldnt help. He would only be confused and forced to play a game he is not good at. Hal Gill will probebly do it better. But why did we go from a puck moving talented team to this??? Whats the plan for next season? Trade Gus and everybody with skating skills and puck handling for more slow vets? Is this the new flyers? The new model? Having Mason back might just save us in this serie. I god hope so, even thou im really really dissapointed of Homer for putting this kind of team toghether i really hope for a long run. LETS GO FLYERS

Well sometimes it happpens, a guy leaving a line and the chemistry gets messed up, even the team chemistry. Downie makes a big hole becouse no one else is playing like Downie. He is really the dirty worker with attitude!

I just hope, but I doubt it, that Mason can be our guy the next 5 years. Im just sick of the "new-golie-every-year-or-two-year"

Dont want to sound like an a-hole but isnt it typical flyers to add a golie who is awesome one season and then choke. Not saying that Mason will be bad but I dont have confidence in him. I hadnt when we added him and I dont have it now looking in long term. Still want this organisation to focus on finding a young good talented golie and stick with him!!!

I agree. I also thinks that becouse he is young he gets nervous when players around him holds their sticks tight, so does he. This season I have seen him doing mistakes I have never seen before, not even back in Sweden. As long as the team gets better he will also.

Gustafsson? anyone? Yes he have not been as good as last year but so havent our captian either. I see a PMD in him and now if the team is coming on feet we will see more of him. I think, its not easy being a PMD on a struggling team. Defense is all that counts then. Keep Schenn and have faith in Gustafsson.

Its not so easy to say that a player develops and become a good player just over time. Patrick Sharp might have been good in Chicago becouse he was given a new role and new teammates. If we kept him nothing says he would have been that Patrick Sharp we all seen in Chicago. But I agree that we shouldnt ship young players away to quickly. But we also must have a place for them. Patrick Sharp played on 4th line and hitch didnt believed in him. In chicago they gived him a offensive role that suited him well. Im not sure I like the defensive role given to Couturier.... I think he have other skills that I want the organisation to develop.

Yes Hextal obviosly but I was thinking a totaly new guy. Isnt Hextal part of the problem as assistant to Homer? Just askin

Ever since the final against black hawks Homer have slowly dismantled this organisation. Trade after trade have been bad except for a few. The guy have lost it and its only a matter of time before Snider makes the call. But who will replace? just dont have a favourite right now, cant come up with anyone really. Suggestions?

Thats the inconvenient truth. Just wish it was so easy to just add some guys and get this team moving in the right direction.

Suprises me to see Gus make those mistakes. He was really really good last season in flyers and also with the national team winning gold medal and best defensman. Maybe the whole situation on the team have gotten to him aswell. I mean, last year he played with confident defensmen, and when the "older guy" paired with isnt as confident now. He is young and maybe its good to take him off the team for a while. Important to get him in the mode then becouse we need his skating and puck carrying. The team is stuffed with stay at home defensmen for now and even those cant clear the puck... I hate to see the chaos in our own end when its high pressure from the other team. When our own defensmen even cant get to the puck and just stands there and watch the shots come HUH its painful.

It seems like its only me. I want to fix this now with blockbuster trades! I have looked forward to the season and i just cant take a whole season in the doghouse. This is bad, real bad. If you count the pre season games you see a loosing trend. The Vinny signing is the one that took us at wrong direction.

Well, already since the pre season started I knew were this was going. I dont think anything will change without a lot of trades. So change it now or later?

If Pronger played the team wouldnt have any identity crisis. Who on the team would dare to make mistakes if he was on the ice. I think he would bring much more focus and leadership obviously.

Talent means alot of things. WHen I say talent I mean players who are able to make good plays and score goals. I think we have those players in Giroux, Hartnell, Schenn, Read, Couturier, Vinny but those guys are not players who can turn around a bad losing trend. Needs leadership on ice and take pressure from the "talented". Obviously the players I mentioned is decent players not talented. I think we have a mediocre team in terms of talents. We DONT have enought talent on the team but I think it would make a huge impact on the team with a leader instead of a Iliya Kovalchuk or something...

Agree. I think we really need a Lappy or a Primeau on the ice... I see a sloppy team not a un-talent team. Its just sloppy and we need a guy leading by example and with a warrior attitude.

Love? This is philadelphia flyers we are talking about. Not the freakin islanders or nashville predators where people dont give a ####. High expectations here! and im glad it is. Very poor GM the last two years cause this situation. I think there is plenty of love here on the board but folks here is critic and they are right.

I cant help being doubtful about Giroux being captain. Yes, maybe he is the best choice on the team as a captain but I Think its tough on him. I dont think it is just the lack of Jagr on the team wich have make Giroux score less goals. He is stiffer now, not that flow he had. I Think Timonen should have gotten the C and let Giroux just focus on scoring goals. Now it would be stupid to strip him of the C obviously so we can only hope he grows into the captainship. As I see it Lindros was great leader and captain. Desjardins was not, thou a great defensman at the time. Primeau was also a great captain even thou he was not the most talanted player on the team. Pronger too. We need captains who is captains for their natural leadership. I Think this organisation must stop giving the C to the most talanted.

I dissagree. We have a philosophy and its the broad street bullies. Trends comes and goes.. suddenly a Tampa bay wins the cup with alot of young players then all yell we need to add young players. Next year a team wins the cup with alot of veterans then some yell we need veterans, then there is a team with a super skilled 1st line who wins, next year a team with tough defense etcetcetc. Its like Brelic says. STICK TO THE GAMEPLAN! obviously someting isnt working on our team. Maybe we are not good enought, but if a GM have put up a bad team you can always stick to the gameplan and fight for the victory and also win! The only thing we really lack is a golie. We need to get a golie and a better golie-tradition. We need to start producing good golies and stick with them. We cant change golie every season... its becomes a bad habit and it becomes a truth - it the weak spot. I did like Lavy. But I also liked Stevens and the Richards carter era. Too bad it didnt worked out with the organisation becouse we could have won the cup with that receipe. Lavy didnt get a good troop last year and only Homer is to blame for that.

Sorry for not posting I have been moving to a new apartment. My post was not about the preseason. It was about Homer showing what he think about goaltending when sticking with Mason and Emery as back-up. Mason might be fantastic this year!? Who knows. But all our 10 goalies the last 6-7 years have done great seasons but it doesnt last and i doubt it will with M&E too. I think Brelic is right onthe spot. Good post. The chain isnt stronger than the weakiest link. Our weak link is the golie and thats why we wont win.
