  1. He just threw away $77 million dollars remaining on that contract.
  2. Wow unreal. PPG player retiring at age 30....
  3. Any North American has to be at least 20 to play in the AHL, I believe (although not 100%) that Euro players can play at a younger age. I think it has to do with an NHL agreement not to poach all of the young stars out of the CJHL.
  4. You can go 10% over during the offseason (including any player that might be designated to LTIR) but you do have to be under the first day of the season. Pronger cannot be designated to LTIR until that 1st day.
  5. Bottom line is right now salary NEEDS to be dumped. We are over the cap and have to shed salary somewhere (note Pronger cannot be placed on LTIR until the start of the season). This is not including Gustafsson who will get a raise probably in the 1.2-1.5 mil range. Coburn or Meszaros will get traded/dumped. Meszaros is the obvious choice to go, he has been solid WHEN healthy. Coburn has been solid but inconsistent at times. That being said he has been severely undervalued among fans here. Trading Coburn would be the bigger risk obviously, you are assuming Meszaros can come back to form and perform. Trading Meszaros is the smart decision even though the return will be very little. Trading Coburn is the gamble, he will warrant a much better return but then you are chancing on relying that Meszaros plays a full season of hockey at a productive level. Trading both would free up a ton of cap room to benefit the team in other areas while letting another young dman take on some minutes. I'm really curious to see what Homer will do. I was certain one of Meszaros or Coburn would have been traded at the draft. Hopefully MA Bourdon can prove he's 100% in camp and make this a little easier to make a decision.
  6. He's been qualified, so there is no rush (well unless somebody tries to offersheet him). They'll get a deal done.
  7. He will definitely be the 2nd line Center. His FO% last year was way too good to stick him on the wing.
  8. Also note E5 is usually a story that is already cited everywhere else, already announced, and indeed a factual story known to everybody EXCEPT Eklund. Example A) Phily buys out Bryz E5 posted at 2:00pm today...this was already announced and public knowledge before then.
  9. Wow, Toronto got away with one here. I wouldn't take all 3 of those pieces for our 1st round (Bernier was drafted 11th), let alone a goalie ready to be an NHL starter. Seems like a head scratcher to me. I guess the universe (Bryz please research into this) owed the Leafs one after they traded Rask for Razor Raycroft.
  10. Coots for Bernier straight up? No way no how! We need something coming back or that deal isn't happening. Coots has too much promise and skill be to be traded away. I would like a trade for Bernier but not at that price. If that's what LA is asking nobody will buy and then you just sign him to an offer sheet and give up a 2nd rounder.
  11. Streit will be in the 5+ range. I'm thinking Meszaros will be the one getting shipped out. Gustafson can play the 6th man fine with Gervais as the 7th. If we kept everybody AND signed Streit we would have by far the most expensive defensive corp in the league.
  12. If you can get Bernier for Read straight up you pull the trigger and don't look back. Read is due for a big raise after this year (probably in $3.5-4.5 range) and we have a lot of other guys to worry about locking up soon. Most likely we won't be able to re-sign him, if you can get a young goalie with that much upside for a pending UFA you do it, plain and simple. That being said, I think there might be higher bidders for Bernier's services.
  13. At least we would get something of value in return... who did we get back in that trade? Matt Ellison who has 7 NHL GP and 1 NHL point as opposed to Sharp's 405 points in 595 games (and an All Star selection and a Stanley Cup)... *smacks forehead and sobs*
  14. 9 spots in a front heavy draft where the top 3-4 would be easy #1's any other year? I'd do that trade without any second guesses. I agree though Briere most likely won't waive his NTC but who knows.
  15. This draft has a lot of potential to develop a good crop of superstars in the league. The Flyers sit nicely (one of few good things to come from last season) at the 11th spot in the draft. Several mock drafts have the Flyers drafting a few different defensemen that could potentially be impact players depending on their development. Players such as Ristolainen, Zadorov, or Pulock (Nurse won't be there at 11) could all help the Flyers down the road and all have the potential to be very good players. Usually at this position you can land a pretty solid NHL player as seen by the below list dating back the last 10 years. 2012 – Flilp Forsberg, RW, Washington 2011 – Duncan Siemens, D, Colorado 2010 – Jack Campbell, G, Dallas 2009 – Ryan Ellis, D, Nashville 2008 – Kyle Beach, C, Chicago 2007 – Brandon Sutter, C, Carolina 2006 – Jonathan Bernier, G, Los Angeles 2005 – Anze Kopitar, C, Los Angeles 2004 – Lauri Tukonen, RW, Los Angeles 2003 – Jeff Carter, C, Flyers Several team shave expressed interest in trading down and accumulating more picks or adding some roster players. The Avalanche and Predators have both publicly expressed such interest. If the Flyers were able to trade into the top 3 (hell I'll take even 5 with this year's) what would it take and would it be worth it? I'm thinking depending on where you start off it's going to take the 11th and Coots or Schenn and maybe another roster player depending on the team. Also note that the 2nd overall pick belongs to Florida ($12 mil in cap room) where we could potentially throw in a Danny Briere if he were willing to waive his NTC. Flyers trade 11th overall, Schenn, and Briere to Panthers for 2nd overall pick. Is this enough, too much, or fair for the chance to draft a potential superstar in Jones, MacKinnon, or Drouin?
  16. Gonchar signing a 2 year $10 mil deal you're going to be looking at $5.5-6 for Streit I bet. No way no how. Keep with the youth, it's a tough ship to board but it's the right one.
  17. How did Mason look in the 3rd? I ended up turning the game off after the 4th goal allowed as I had too many chores to do than to get pissed off at a hockey game. I saw he didn't let any in on 9 shots but wasn't sure if any of them were real testers?
  18. Hey I got shot in the eye plenty of times with Nerf guns, they still hurt!
  19. I could have a 12 year old do a better photoshop job than that.
  20. I know some folks are desperate for a change in goal, but Hexy!? Come on guys.... oh wait you said GM
  21. I don't think what this team is missing is a goon. That type of player is a waste of a contract and a dying breed in the NHL. While I agree I'd rather have Simmonds/Rinaldo on the ice if they pick their fights wisely I'm happy with taking one of the other teams energy/skill players off the ice as well. In terms of revamping the defense as it stands right now our top 5 dmen are signed for next year (Timo, Coburn, Meszaros, Grossman, Schenn) and all but Timo/Meszaros beyond next year. Coburn and Meszaros are 28/27 respectively and SHOULD be getting into their prime. Unfortunately Coburn we just haven't seen all the hope and promise he showed early on and Meszaros just can't stay healthy. They would be my two prime candidates to get shipped off but I'm not really sure what you would get in return selling low and more importantly, who to bring in that would actually be an improvement? http://capgeek.com/ufa-finder/?position_id=D There aren't a whole lot of names on there that say we have to get this guy, he will be the difference maker. Some good players for sure, but most of them are aging and I really don't want to see a defensive core full of has been players. I honestly want to throw away the season and forget it never happened and see what this squad can do next year with some minor tweaks. The defense shouldn't be THIS bad, looking at anyone of those 5 defenseman and you don't think "oh wow this guy is terrible". They just aren't geling and are playing way too inconsistent for anyone's liking. However being as we are the Flyers are we have an impatient owner, GM, and fan base. I expect a major overhaul
  22. Not at all, but I find it interesting that he gives an answer for Homer's position and not for Lavy's. I would expect he either says both jobs are safe or say he doesn't want to talk about it for both. Just strange that he was to the point on one question but not the other.
  23. Kind of interesting how he responds to Homer's job being safe but then completely avoids the question about Lavy. I get that Homer makes the decision but he's got more input on these kind of things than most owners.
  24. Emergency move. Obviously management knows that they aren't comfortable with what they have and don't want to rush anybody along who they don't think is ready and probably ruining any confidence they have. Kind of surprised that Manning or somebody wasn't called up to be honest with you. I wonder what the condition is of the pick? Flyers making the playoffs or him re-signing? Might be a freebie haha
  25. This is the kind of nonsense that will have half of this idiotic fan base saying "OMGZOR WHY DID WE TRADE HIM, WE GGIVE UP TOOOOO EARLY ON OUR YOUTHZ!!!" Love the Flyers but the fan base has grown to infuriate me. HE IS TWENTY YEARS OLD, 20! Let the kid grow and develop!
