  1. This one makes sense and it doesn't...I'm not sure why the Avs want 3 goalies...Varly, Giguere and Miller. Although, maybe there's a separate deal to move one, or one is going to Buffalo in the deal. But I agree with the get something before you lose them mentality. I'm just used to hearing that in January, not August.
  2. This statement is getting VERY TIRING and QUITE IRRITATING. Everytime someone challenges you, you throw this out there. I'm sure I'm not alone in stating it's getting old, but then again, if someone agrees with me, you'll say we are ganging up on you.
  3. Cam Ward got "Kate Upton" hot at the right time, Lavy rode him and they won a Cup together. Awesome for them. Ward has done jack diddly **** since then. I am not discounting the Cup AT ALL...but to hold Ward up as the 2nd coming of Marty B, is flat out wrong. He had one awesome run for 12 weeks, at the perfect time. Since then, there are 15 goalies I would take over him--At least.
  4. What's it gonna cost me? Then I'll answer you.
  5. Agreed. Should have been more clear; I wasn't dumping on the idea of video review, but rather, asking about scenarios that the league will have to think through before it's the 3rd period of a tie game, and Toronto is on the phone!
  6. The writer brings up a valid point, and one that will probably occur. Figured we could start a discussion on what other "odd" scenarios could happen with expanded video review. Expanded video review in the National Hockey League is a good thing. A very good thing. As long as it’s limited to particular situations and doesn’t slow the game down to cricket match-levels, we’re golden. The fact that double-minor high-sticking penalties we’ll be under review is something for which were excited about in the 2013-14 season. Four minutes of power-play time on a play in which a player is cut by his own teammate’s stick is an egregious error. Now, it can be corrected. But not without some headaches in the early stages of this innovation. Stu Hackel of Sports Illustrated provided some needles for our balloons with a piece on NHL replay this week. Wrap your grey matter around this scenario: And then one must take into account all of the penalty's possible scenarios. How to do that is something the Hockey Operations Department has been trying to work through this summer. Let's say, for example, a player is going to be whistled for high sticking. The ref signals a delayed call, the team that was fouled pulls its goalie and scores a goal with the extra man. The ref then checks the player who was struck and signals a double minor, but the review in Toronto indicates that, in fact, he was injured by his own or a teammate's stick. What the hell happens then? We’re imagining that the goal would count. Yes, the phantom penalty call allowed Team X to pull its goalie and score, which is unfortunate. But all Team Y had to do was possess the puck to end the sequence. Taking partisan emotion out of that scenario, wouldn’t that be the logical decision? Or should the goal be wiped away along with the penalty? Anyhoo, that’s one of the many headaches associated with what is otherwise a glorious, overdue development for the NHL.
  7. More importantly, let's go look at Scotty Bowman's stats as an NHL player. OH WAIT...he never played in the NHL. I'd say the guy was a pretty decent coach. Being a great coach doesn't mean you were a great player, and being a great player doesn't mean you are a great coach. Further more, being a bad player or coach, doesn't mean you are automatically a bad coach or player. Then again, thinking that way requires logic, and simple deductive reasoning skills, both of which are lacking by some people in this thread.
  8. I think you need to re-read the argument regarding the extra game. No one is blaming Bob for playing an extra game!! It is a well-known fact, that the Flyers(their GM AND their head coach), played Bob one too many games the one season--thereby making him ineligible to be sent to the minors, without going thru waivers. If he would have went thru waivers, every eligible team would have put a claim on him. That is a screw-up of colossal proportions. That one game cost the Flyers a chance to keep Bob in the organization(and develop in the minors) for another year while they where figuring out what to do with him/Bryz and the rest of the roster. And if you think Bob got a fair shake at being a long term goalie for the Flyers, you are in a small group of people on this board that do. I'd say that group pretty much exists of...you.
  9. Regarding the Mason in Columbus, if this comment is true, how the hell does a coach keep his job? " It's been at least alleged that there was a communication gap between Mason and his Columbus goaltending coaches, supposedly including the goalie wearing the wrong-sized pads and never having it pointed out to him."
  10. Okay..where did THAT emoticon come from..we've need that on here for years!
  11. I was going to be a smartass, and post video of the 2 goals Shelley scored as a Ranger against the Flyers to answer your question. After 5 pages of Youtube Shelley fight videos, I gave up looking for them.
  12. This proves there are hockey gods.
  13. Cool...sure as hell beats paying for Center Ice, that's for sure!!
  14. Any idea of the signal quality? 720, 1080, etc...didn't see it in the article. But for $35 bucks..that's almost a must purchase.
  15. 5 albums, huh? Off the top of my head...I think I'm gonna start a thread on this. Pink Floyd-The Wall Eagles-Hotel California Rush-Moving Pictures G-N-R-Appetite AC-DC-Back in Black
  16. One point regarding the NCAA, that is ridiculous..is they only consider you professional in the sport you choose. Example..a football player/playing college football, can't sign a deal, etc...HOWEVER, if you play baseball, and get paid, and then come back to college to play football, that's okay. Drew Henson got drafted by the Yankees and signed a monster deal..he then played football for Michigan. I think Chris Weinke from FSU also played minor league baseball, and then enrolled at FSU to play football.
  17. I have always said I wish we would have taken Hamilton, and that is NO insult to Couts. It goes back to the best player available versus drafting for need argument that we always have. Couts was ranked as the BPA, at that point. The glaring, obvious, a blind man with no seeing-eye dog could see it need for the Flyers was a young defenseman.
  18. Not being a smart ass here...Bernie's on Twitter. Send him a pic and ask him. I almost guarantee he'll respond.
  19. Posted in the shoutbox earlier, that based on Capgeek...and ASSUMING a cap of $70 million for 2014-15, Flyers have almost 17 million in cap space.
  20. I don't. I haven't returned to the forum where the discussion was-and haven't for a long time. Sorry, bud.
  21. My +\- comment goes back to a round and round argument, many of us had with one of the most idiotic forum members in the history of forums.
  22. I wish someone in the US, NHL Network would be logical, would figure out a way to carry BOTH games of HNIC doubleheader's. I hate the fact that the early game is usually the only one shown here in the States. Doesn't matter if NHL Network carries one, and NBC the other, etc.....
  23. For us old--timers and Philly.com veterans, we should also re-address the +\- stat.
  24. That's as unexpected as the end of the movie, Titanic.
