  1. @Podein25 ANTON FORSBERG G, WINNIPEG JETS Winnipeg has claimed Anton Forsberg off waivers from Carolina. The Hurricanes claimed Forsberg off the waiver wire from Edmonton earlier this week. He remained in Canada, but it is expected that he will still have to go through quarantine before reporting to the Jets. Winnipeg lost a goaltender earlier this week when Eric Comrie was claimed by New Jersey. SOURCE: Chris Johnston on Twitter Jan 15, 2021, 12:14 PM ET P25, anything in the Winnipeg media about Laine's trade situation other than his 2 goals in the opener?

  3. Not organized hockey. Just weekend pick-up hockey as an off-wing RW at local Philadelphia area rinks when in my early 30s - - - that was almost 50 years ago. Yes, I'm almost 80. Spent some time here: Love this sport of hockey. Love our Flyers. Love the excellent group of posters here. Sharp guys/gals.
  4. Ha! You are quick. I caught that also and quickly edited. With that quickness, you must be a goaltender?
  5. Game Day - Game 2 Because of practice yesterday Thursday, no morning skate today - - - - - - except for those other than the 20 (19) who will play tonight's game: Roster player extras: Frost (C) Friedman (D) Elliott (G) (Ghost is still in the protocol.) and - Flyers Taxi squad players: Connor Bunnaman (C/LW/) Carsen Twarynski (LW) Andy Andreoff (C) Samuel Morin (LW/D) Nate Prosser (D) Alex Lyon (G)
  6. Good points. But, with considering Ghost with Provorov, and focusing on points, we are also mindful of Ghost's play in the D-zone vs Gus' play in the D-zone. IMO, not even close, Gus is much better at puck retrieval, great vision, and fast D-zone exits in transition up ice. It's perceptive of you with the sensing that Ghost may get some prime-time play as a showcase to the League to help his trade value. Hopefully it does not backfire.
  7. IMO, ultimately AV will move Gus to that right side with Provorov - - - - - - after Gus' adjustment period to his new team, new system, and new coaching. AV is starting Gus with Hagg on the 3rd pair with the ease of communication with his home buddy and adjustment time. Quote: His [Gus] skill set, his ability to go back on pucks and make good decisions and transition the puck up the ice, we thought was a very important element to add to our group." Fletcher. It won't be long. Gus is a 4 year NHL veteran and has 1st pair experience playing with Duncan Keith. Quotes: At 28, Gustafsson has been around long enough to know the ropes on a top pairing. And besides playing with Keith, Gustafsson also had a chance to compete with other stars (forwards) such as three-time Stanley Cup champions Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. Gus is LH but has played almost exclusevly on the Right Side the last 3 years and prefers it. “I played a couple games on the left with Calgary (recently) but it didn’t feel right,’’ he [Gus] said. “So right now I’m used to playing on the right side. I feel more confident on the right side. Whatever the coaches want me to do, I play there.’’ “For the most part, I have liked what I have seen,” Vigneault said. “I do think as he [Gus] gets more familiar with the way we want to do things, the way we approach our preparation, our expectations — coaches to players — I think the more he understands, the better he is going to play. It is hard for someone coming into a new style of play, a new emphasis on different things, but he seems like a very good young man.” Gustafsson has been “very receptive to the things I have told him, and Mike Yeo, who runs the D, has told him,” Vigneault said. “He’s picking it up every day, and that is what he needs to do if he is going to be an effective player for us.” Left winger James van Riemsdyk has faced Gustafsson in NHL games and, now, in training-camp scrimmages. “He’s super smooth,” van Riemsdyk said. “He moves the puck really well and is just a smart player all around. He’s definitely a guy we’re happy to have on our team. The last couple of days we’ve gotten a chance to do some power-play stuff with him and he is really good up top there, too. That will definitely be a big part of his contribution to the team.” "[Gustafsson] has tremendous deception with the puck, tremendous poise," general manager Chuck Fletcher said. "We don't have a defenseman that sees the ice like he does, he can play on the power play. It's a different type of skill set than Matt ... there wasn't going to be that ability to replace Matt per se with the same style." "We think his (Gustafsson) skill set meshes really well with what we need," Fletcher said. "We think we have a lot of strong defenders on our team and we're very structured defensively as a group. His skill set, his ability to go back on pucks and make good decisions and transition the puck up the ice, we thought was a very important element to add to our group." "Gustafsson’s just got tremendous deception and vision." It will be interesting for us to watch Gus carefully for his skill set and his adjustment here with our Flyers. Fletcher was wise to sign Gus to a 1 year contract. It protects from Gus being selected by Seattle in the July Expanson Draft and allows Fletcher to re-sign Gus assuming Gus has played well, Gus is happy here (including with his 3 Swede buddies), and there is mutual interest. Optimistic for Gus' success on the top-pair with Provorov.
  8. Interest level in our Flyers is high. Game 2 Friday night - - - let's break the record again - - - PENGUINS-FLYERS OPENING NIGHT MATCHUP IS NBCSN’S MOST-WATCHED NHL REGULAR-SEASON GAME ON RECORD Penguins-Flyers is NBC Sports’ Most-Streamed Regular-Season Game on Record; Last Night is NBC Sports’ Most-Streamed Opening Night on Record STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 14, 2021 – The first game of the 2020-21 NHL season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers averaged a Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 972,000 viewers last night on NBCSN, making it the network’s most-watched regular-season game on record. Flyers Score !!
  9. Coool for Game 1 - - all 4 lines scored goals, and all 12 forwards got points. Awesome! Depth. For Game 2, AV said this at practice on Thursday: "After watching the game and talking with my staff, there is no doubt that I feel we can be better 5 on 5. We did finish on some of our opportunities, but we spent more time than we needed to in our zone. Mind you, I don’t want to take anything away from them [Pens]. They are a real strong team with great one on one players and great players that can do a lot of things off the rush," Vigneault said. "Our five on five play coming back into our end and making the right plays to come out, we need to be better. There is no doubt that I thought they played a real strong game 5-on-5 and we are going to need to be better tomorrow."
  10. My prediction for this Flyers Game 2 win is simply shown by this photo:
  11. It's hard to guess at the 31 team's Exposed Lists and the Kraken's strategy as they get to selecting the Flyers player. My guess is that they go young and take Bunnaman, Hagg, or Friedman from this Flyers Exposed List (below). RJ - So if we can somehow luck out and Seattle takes Voracek or JVR it helps us the most in dumping a big contract and creates room on the wing for Frost, Brink or Forester. Agree with you RJ. However, the top-9 'vacancy' spot, actually 3d line 'vacancy' spot, for the wing in 2021-22 would be filled from this Depth Chart: - Frost (C, maybe wing but no experience there at all levels of his career) - Sandin (RW/LW/C) - Laczynski (LW/RW/C) - Allison (RW) A shot at our Flyers Protected List 7F/3D/1G: 1) Giroux F (NMC) 2) Hayes F (NMC) 3) Couturier F 4) Konecny F 5) Patrick F 6) Lindblom F 7) Aube-Kubel F 1) Provorov D 2) Sanheim D 3) Myers D 1) Carter G (Assumes Ghost is traded soon before getting too close to the July Expansion Draft. It may be hard for Fletcher to get value as other GMs know he must unload to get 'something' - - unless a contending team gets hit with a long-term injury to an offensive defenceman and therefore they may pay a reasonable asset for Ghost.) Exposed List: van Riemsdyk (Age 32, Cap Hit 7M) Voracek (Age 32, Cap Hit 8.25M) Bunnaman F Twarynski F Morin LW Kase F Hagg D Friedman D (RH) Exempt: First and Second year Pro (at June 2021) Farabee F 2nd year Frost F 2nd year Ustimenko G 2nd year Sandstrom G 2nd year Don't have to consider protecting - Laughton, Raffl, Gustafsson because they will be pending UFAs (UFAs on July 28) and Seattle would not take them. Smart by Fletcher. Any of these 3 can be re-signed anytime after the July 21 Expansion Draft, if mutual.
  12. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this morning - The Flyers, always willing to whack or slash or stab one of their Keystone State rivals, gave us three looks at a reimagined power play under new assistant coach Todd Reirden. It was encouraging to see all five guys move their feet and often switch spots. But the Penguins didn’t have many chances to show for it. Their lone power-play goal was an impressive individual effort by Sidney Crosby, who swatted Hart’s clearing attempt out of midair then nonchalantly tucked the puck into an empty net. Cry-babies. In addition to Crosby, even their media are cry-babies. "gave us three looks at a reimagined power play under new assistant coach Todd Reirden. It was encouraging - - " Encouraging? The only Pens PP goal against our Flyers PK units was the give-away by our goaltender ! See you guys on Friday. Bring your crying towels. This is how we like to see Malkin:
  13. Okay. I feel that I am over-posting. Too many. Only a rookie here. But, excited over our Flyers' start and this season's potential. So, one last post this morning - - with a quote: "Well, if every game is going to be that fun, we’re going to have a great time. 56-0, obviously."
  14. Here they are - - the 2nd Power Play unit. 2ND POWERPLAY UNIT JAMES VAN RIEMSDYK NOLAN PATRICK JOEL FARABEE JAKUB VORACEK ERIK GUSTAFSSON Will they be effective ? Game 1 Starts the Answer !
  15. Quotes: But part of what makes Patrick such a fascinating player is that, despite his early-career injury issues and migraine disorder, “elite” isn’t necessarily off the table for him. His upside remains as high as any young player on the roster. “I don’t think anyone knows at this point,” Vigneault said when asked what Patrick’s ceiling might be. “He hasn’t played at all in – it must be since April (2019). So he hasn’t played in quite some time. But I see him walking around with a jump in his step and a smile on his face. There’s no doubt that he’s happy to be back. Every day that he’s around our team and that he’s on the ice and with his teammates, he gets better. Where that will lead, only time can tell.” “You know, it’s scary, he’s only going to get better,” Konecny said. “It’s his first game back in a long time and he looks that good.” Nolan Patrick. And, with 3rd line matchups. Guys, this is only the beginning. Buckle-up. This is a very, very, good team - - a CUP contender.
  16. Goal changed. Konecny said the goal went in by deflecting off of Lindblom's head. Here is the video. By clicking repeatedly on the video as Konecny shoots, we get a frame-by-frame look. We can see the puck hit Lindblom's helmet: Tweet video -
