  1. @GratefulFlyers

I think it can, there needs to be some luck involved.

With some luck the Flyers could be healthy Patrick 1, healthy Couturier 2, Frost, Laughton down the middle. Had it panned out, that would be pretty strong imo.

Patrick was top 5 talent, Couturier was top 10 talent...I think teams need some guys with that pedigree, the Flyers have some of those guys in the system and on the roster taken in those positions.

I'm biased because other teams i cheer for have been really bad for really long stretches. Only after 25 years of abject, soul crushing failure have the Baltimore Orioles maybe turned a corner. The Sixers have been bad and under achieving for too long. The idea that oh just suck for a few years and everything will be fine hasn't worked for teams I like. So when i see the tear it all down school of thought, I'm always careful what you wish for.

Another thing that hasn't helped was missing on some guys, O'Brien, Morin come to mind. Those missed first picks hurt the organization's depth.

The scouts need to get it right and the FO needs to hit on their chances in trades and free agency as well.

I know the general public doesn't value culture nearly as much as the guys in the decision chairs do, I like the direction of the culture of the team.

Now there needs to be an influx of talent to get the most out of the culture.

  2. @flyercanuck not that there's anything wrong with that!

Games like the recent whuppin's by the Lightning and Leaves really highlight the talent disparity.

The Flyers do have some top 10 talent on the roster, some of them aren't dressing right now, but it is clear more very good players are needed.

If we see it, I'm sure Danny and Keith do too.

Trying to walk a middle path is difficult, I prefer what I'm seeing the Flyers do to what I've seen the Sixers and Orioles do, which has been "be terrible for decades".

  3. Games like this one highlight the talent disparity between the scrappy hard-working Flyers and guys who are great at hockey see: Matthews,Auston

If we can see it I know Daniel and Keith can see it.

I'd like to see these the Danny Jonesy get creative this offseason and raise the talent level some more.

There are some good players on this team.

But if the team isn't playing it's B+ game they aren't winning.

The Flyers have been smoked by teams with more talent that could only muster their C game this season, Colorado and Tampa come to mind immediately.

    More talent is definitely needed.

@Howie58 is there anything new about Michkov that makes you think he will not come over? Or is this a reiteration of a long-held suspicion?

To me, I don't see why Michkov wouldn't come to the best league in the world to play hockey.

  4. @SCFlyguy

I think Tyson Foerster has more to his game. He's not a finished product, his shot is elite and he's strong as hell on the puck.

I think if he nears his ceiling we'll be pretty happy. There is a lot to like about that kid.

Joel Farabee will be a solid middle six guy, Owen Tippett has game breaking ability.

@BobbyClarkeFan16 has mentioned a very solid potential top 4.

I think the reason they have over achieved this season, aside from their f' all attitude  is these young guys are developing into better than projected players.

They may take a step back next season development is never linear, so the Flyers first will be a higher pick in a better draft.

They can use assets to trade for a "horse". Comcast has money.

You're smart, you can come up with some scenarios too I'm sure.

@radoran's desire to see some creativity in the offseason may be answered by the FO. Briere did get a first for Walker and no one thought that was happening. He was creative in using his cap space to recoup the 25 5th rounder.

Danny seems like a bright mind when it comes to this job.

I must be having a brain cramp or else I missed this entirely... what's this all about please?

It was Tori Krug who used his NMC to block a trade to the Flyers for Sanhiem last summer.

It's nothing current or new, but did happen.

His team sucks but at least he and Haysey can get good barbeque together ❤️

    Those miserable bastards

  6. @OccamsRazor

I'm intrigued by the Gurianov trade.

He's still pretty young,  he's big and fast and has a good hard shot. He's only 26, whether or not he'll buy into to Fonzie's program who knows.

Maybe he and Allison are truly "change of scenery" players.

This feels like a nibbling around the edges deal that could wind up being an okay hockey trade. If both players wake up to the reality of their situations

Team is much more fragile right now...A #5 OA pick just publicly refused to play/sign for the Flyers...a defenseman just blocked a trade to not come to Philly...lots of high profile FA dont even look in Philly direction.

I think this has some merit especially with a polarizing coach who seems pretty well entrenched.

Certain guys aren't going to want to sign up for his program.  See Hayes, Kevin and Johansen, Ryan.

    I'd also like to add,  **** that gnat-****-with-a girl's-name-whiny-bitch-defenceman.

We just wanted to use him as a salary dump anyway.

He can fuxk all the way off forever.

Danny is entering dangerous territory. Throwing away draft picks like they are suckers at the greeting bowl of a business. Its just not responsible. Quite possible Belpido is better than Johnson at this juncture of their careers. Just call up a Phantom! Johnson is WASHED!! I consider Southeran a respectable prospect and he was selected a round later than we gave up for Mr.Washed and the playoff run that may or may not happen.

Did I mention Danny overpaying in term and salary to a 30 year old defensemen, THEN throwing in the Homer/Fletch no trade clause?? Bad flashbacks.

    Buddy, you okay?

Seeler's deal isn't even 3% of the salary cap. Zero trade protection after the second year.

Danny recouped the 5th round pick and used the 4th on an actual NHL defensmen who  can walk at the end of the season. Belpido isn't better, Andrae is too young Southeran hasn't sniffed a call up. There's starting to be fewer healthy defenseman than there are centermen in the system.

It's fine to not like the moves.

I really don't understand where the hyperbole is coming from though.

The GM added a valuable asset for the future at this trade deadline.

Signed a coach's favorite to a modest contract with outs. He used a fourth pick to show his over-performing team he believes in them.

His moves are far from clueless or wreckless.

I would have just let guys like Brink and Attard play but that is just me

I wouldn't be surprised if Attard does play some significant minutes down the stretch.

I think maybe this is in addition to @radoran 's theory, is also a hedge on Ginning who in spite of that great hit was -1 and got ****** caved when he was on the ice. his X/g was in the 20s. Ronnies' was in the high 50s.  Ginning's eye test looked good, but a lot of the Panther's cycle game got going when big 50 was out there.

I swear, when you sign on the dotted line to be GM of the Flyers, theres a clause in there that says you must makes trades that leave our fans scratching their heads in bewilderment.

I don't see what is so bewildering.

He turned found money into a first.

Had a top 5 (on this team) go to the IR the same week as the trade deadline.

That injury on top of 2 other Defensive injuries.

He wanted an NHL player to play hockey and provide depth.

If you can't figure out if the team is rebuilding and/or think Eric Johnson and Sean Walker are basically the same.

I don't know what anyone can tell you.

Maybe you as GM wouldn't reward your team by giving them a shot to stick it in everyone's eye after being told they're **** all season but I guess Danny and Jonesy feel differently.

I'll join you for the mutiny when they sign EJ to any sort of contract.

But I'm really not going to get worked up over things that may not happen.

  11. I don't mind this. Provided as Howie says, he's not resigned.

I think they needed an NHL body and not a Belpedio as was suggested by @jammer2 I don't think the outlook is good for Drysdale, Seeler or Risto, should something happen to Attard or Ginning they'd be really ****ed.

i reckon it was good they had a 4th to throw at this situation.

It's an asset, but how valuable?

this valuable and it was put to decent use.

the rebuild is certainly over since this development. certainly is.

I guess the Brass doesn't want the youngins to be overplayed down the stretch. Either that, or some of the walking wounded won't be back for some time.  I doubt he's re-signed.  Is it worth a fourth-rounder to have peace-of-mind?  I wouldn't have pulled this trigger, but I am not the GM.

Again, not exactly a shining endorsement! 😁

I'm not going out and getting a sweet #24 Stadium series sweater anytime soon.

But, I don't think the signing is terrible, it doesn't do anything to hamper any plan going forward in anyway.

I'd have preferred one less year. I understand why they signed him.

They have plenty of outs after 2 years, and in that time, ol' Nick will still be serviceable in his role.

I don't begrudge the man getting paid a little bit.

It doesn't move the needle for me either way.

I don't view signing a good soldier to a modest contract as the harbinger of ineptitude that a lot of other folks do.

The Flyers are the land of misfit toys. The Seeler contract is just more proof.

I have a couple of thoughts about the Seeler deal, the first is after two years, that is a tradeable contract.

Could the length mean the FO is hedging that the rebuild could take more time?

Torts loves Seeler, uses him as exhibit A for the effort he wants to see. Having him around and not locked down with an Andrew MacDonald contract isn't the worst thing for a mostly young roster. Also, if somehow they're able to move on from Ristolainen then this signing becomes even less bad.

And lastly **** Tory Krug, that gnat ****** with the girl's name isn't exactly killing it in Barbequeville.

  14. It's clear we value Seeler less than the managment does.

    That said.

Trading the team's 2nd best defenceman in the midst of a playoff run doesn't exactly say "Going all in" this year.

Also. Ivan Provorov has been turned into 2 1st round picks.

    I think that's pretty okay.

Is it 9 picks in the first two rounds of the next two drafts?

That's some ammo to get better with.

I just got to the part where they resigned Seeler.  That is incredibly dumb.

Paying a guy $2.7M at that age because he's too unskilled to do anything other than not get out of the way of the puck is not a winning move.

My guess is he loses a step at 32 and is basically unplayable from that point on.

Those managment guys ****** love that guy.

He wants to be a Flyer. I think we underestimate how much that means to this group of managers.

I think the deal is for too long, it's not the worst thing to happen- but it's not the best either.

All of them were here when the team found itself completely devoid of any semblance of Flyer hockey.

Not to quibble too much, but Sanhiem and Konecny were younger guys- only Couturier was a part of the rudderless leadership group. And he was the most junior member.

Torts chose Laughts for leadership because he's a Torts style guy. Laughton  is only signed for one more year. I didn't include him because he doesn't fit the timeline. He was here but his voice was pretty far down the pecking order too.

The turnover from the Giroux group, the Provorov  trade and the ascension of the Travii  has been good IMO.

Then I see a team looking to "build" around three (four) guys who were "big parts" of the group that oversaw the (alleged and apparent) complete and total vivisection of team culture for the past ten years.

    which one's?

I see the core group as Konecny, Farabee, Sanhiem, York, maybe Tippett and Foerster and sadly Couturier.

If 14 can return to 80% of his Selke self, that's not a bad player- but I don't view him as the epicenter of the team anymore, I think that gravity has shifted towards #11.

I think that's a pretty decent group of players to add additional good to very good players with the next couple years of multiple first picks and a ZOMG talent.

No young guys are getting shipped out, a 5th round pick was traded away, that's not going to change the course of the franchise if we're being honest.

I think this group of Konecny and younger players is a pretty good base to start building onto.

It is an interesting time to be a fan of this team.

It's been fun seeing everyone's perspectives.
