Wow, this post has generated alot of good discussion. I in no way intended to say that Coots sucks, he like 90% of the team is struggling to start the season. My thoughts were that Coots had been playing 4 months under Murray, who preaches D first. Lock-out ends and Coots is now playing Lavy's run and gun style. Not being a professional athlete, I was just wondering if it is difficult for a player to flip a switch and play a different system.

Murray's coaching style is 180% different than Lavy. Considering Couturier spent the first half of the season playing for the Phantoms, is it possible his struggles are a result of the different systems?

Agreed, D-men cannot get their shots through the lanes and Giroux is hell bent on doing those windmill wind-ups from the top of the circle.

that's because Lavy knows it's his ASS! Every point matters in this shortened season and the Flyers could easily be on the outside looking in come May.

they just finished a stretch of 6 games in 9 days plus travel. That does not give a lot of time to practice anything. That being said the special team guys are the same from last year so its not like they have to learn the system.

All depends on Snider's mindset. It could take a team 20 games to gel in a full season but this year we do not have that luxury. If Snider is willing to let the chips fall wherever they may this season, I agree w/Bert that Bryz will be bought out regardless and Kimmo's contract expires. That should free up some cap space to retool the D and find a more consistent goalie. If Snider is impatient, Lavi will probably be gone sooner than later.

Van-you make a very valid point, yes flat starts where also an issue under Hitch and Stevens. It just seems like for the past couple of seasons under Lavi (who I like by the way), the slow starts result in the team being down 1-0, two or three minutes into the game. Maybe that is a result of a more up tempo style Lavi preaches, our issues on D the past couple of seasons or our continuing issues with inconsistent goaltending the last 20 years.

In the Lavi era, the Flyers seem always seem to play like **** in the first period of games. What gives?

I fear that being made to play 2 games in less than 24 hours w/travel is way to much to ask. Living in WNY I know the Sabres fans are foaming at the mouth for tomorrows game. Hoping the Sabres and their troll fans are over confident and the boys in Orange can steal 2 points tomorrow, but I fear the worst. Did the NHLPA waive the 24 hour rule with the new CBA?

While I commend the players for putting on a benefit game for vicitims of Hurricane Sandy, I cannot believe they could not arrange television coverage of the game. I understand that the NHL Network is owned by the league so they were out from the get go along with NBCSports/Versus since they have the league rights. That being said, this was a non-NHL sanctioned event for charity and the NHLPA should have been able to find a network to cover the event. It was a perfect opportunity to reach out to the fans who have been stuck in the middle of all this ******** AGAIN! Are you telling me ESPN did not have a slot on one of their 15 channels. Hell did anyone call Oprah, I think she still owns a network. They could have even made it a PPV event with proceeds going to the vicitim fund. I would have gladly thrown down some cash to watch it on PPV or stream it on my computer. ~Samifan~

@jammer2: I can't take credit for the Orange Jesus reference, another forum member came up with it at the end of last season or after the Pens series, sorry I do not remember who that was. Perfect reference for G-Roo though.

I hope Homer stands pat. Hopefully there will not be a work stoppage and we will have a full season of Hockey. The Flyers need to start the season and roll with what they have, hopefully B.Schenn, Coots, Read, Talbot and Hartnell for that matter can match or exceed last years offensive numbers. Vorachek may break out playing with Orange Jesus full time. If Bryz can keep his head on straight, having Nicholas Grossmann with two N's for a full season should help. If the Flyers get off to a slow start then Homer can start to panic and move some pieces around.
