  1. If Chicago had gone on this year I'd have given them the title. But I don't see it yet. Just like my Pens... Yay for playoff rounds, but it's Cups that define the champions, not playoff rounds.
  2. Gotta credit Martinez and Doughty too... Go Kings!
  3. The two have absolutely nothing to do with one another. The team looked good was a genuine appraisal if them and they WERE very good. I didn't like it because you're rivals, obviously. Where I'd have been wrong would have been if I'd said "there's no way they'd have ever won a Cup" because that's impossible to know. And in my opinion complete BULLSHAT. I think that team would have won a Cup if a solid goalie were picked up. Didn't have to be great, just decent. So maybe read what I said again if it helps. I think your perspective got defensive rather than analytical.
  4. I'll accept the "screwed by fate" thinking as well. Some seem to think there's more to it than that. Or maybe I'm just getting so used to the conspiracy theories around here it just seems that way to me!
  5. Sorry boys but this thread makes me laugh. Some of you are reasonable and said "hey we just didnt win the lottery". To those who did I tip my cap. To the "we got screwed" crowd, it sucks to lose a lottery, but once again there was no conspiracy to put it to the Flyers.
  6. That's the thing... I know he looks funny, but I'm seriously trying to weigh what he actually knows. And the guy knows players. The more time passes thinking about it, the more I lean towards actually being in favor of this. That kinda scares me...
  7. @jammer2 @flyercanuck @mojo1917 Aside from the experience correction, the Pens have a numbers guy in Botterill. They need to guy who knows players and chemistry. That is why this is okay with me more and more. Who knows the players better than goofy Regis? I'm not saying its a given to be successful. And yes the guy looks silly. But he knows an awful lot about players and their personalities. If you have a numbers guy, what else do you need??
  8. And this is based upon what super secret knowledge? I see a lot if people saying its laughable... But the more I think about it... Can anyone really say why?
  9. If he was with Holmgren then at least we know he knows what NOT to do. The more I see if this though the more I like the idea. We already have a numbers/cap guy in Botterill to handle the figures. We need someone who knows talent, prospects, player personalities, where they fit into chemistry. Who the hell knows that more than Regis?? Nobody. As much as this drive me crazy at the start... I think if the Pens try this I'll be in favor of it. I mean this guy isn't a crack the whip type, but that's not the GM's job anyway. Hell he knows what kind of peanut butter Radim Vrbata's cousin Gerty uses on her thighs to lure her dog on slow weekends... The guy knows more than anyone I've ever heard about every player in the system. Why not??
  10. What puzzles me is people saying they'd never win in Philly. That makes no sense to me. You were close twice with them as young players and Giroux coming up quick. It's the last time you had good depth front and back. How can anyone crystal ball they'd never win? Love the trades or hate them, but don't make things up to justify them.
  11. Maybe I gave your squad more credit than you guys do, but I thought those two guys with Gagne, Pronger, Timonen, Hartnell, Giroux, Briere, Carle, and van Riemsdyk were a formidable bunch and only getting better. You had Asham, Carcillo and Laperriere in the lineup which made them very difficult to play against. You added Meszaros the next season and won the Atlantic Division despite Pronger's injury. You got swept by the Bruins but let's face it, they had a revenge factor going into the playoffs after your comeback the year before. I'm not a Flyers fan, obviously, and I am not saying this just to "stir the pot" or any similar opportunistic reach to poke a finger at you guys. I seriously think Holmgren's biggest mistake was in trashing the team after the 2010-2011 season. You still had one hell of a lineup, even with Pronger being out. I thought you were pretty serious contenders for the Cup at that point, and honestly, I didn't like it one bit. I know you guys are looking at the returns you got for the Richards/Carter trades here, and they may yet pay off. But I strongly felt the biggest mistake Holmgren ever made as a GM was disassembling that team. Yeah they were young and did some immature things, but given a little seasoning and you guys might have been celebrating by noiw. Dead serious. Now feel free to tell me I don't know anything because I'm not a fan, etc etc... but you have to wonder if maybe that's what lets me look at it objectively...
  12. I've always thought third being traded away cost you a chance or two at Cups. You were very close with them, and then everything got dumped without giving it another try. Maybe the trades will pay off in the long run, but I firmly believe the team with them was good enough to contend a couple more times. We'll never know. (And that's fine with me .
  13. Hey he got hit in the face! That often feels like getting shot by a howitzer!
  14. It's really not a cap hell. They'll manage just fine.
  15. I never said you were insane! Lol. I said I disagree with it and I still do. But that's the only reason I can see them canning Shero, and I have to trust in Lemieux. I'm thinking there were philosophical differences between the two and that was that.
  16. That presents a more likely scenario. A salary retention would definitely help.
  17. There's a bigger picture though. It IS on a coach if the coach uses poor line combinations and makes no adjustment to the opponents tactics. And it IS on the GM if the owners feel the coach wasn't given the right players to put it together. In this case Lemieux strongly feels Shero let key pieces walk away. Maybe that was Cooke or Morrow, or both and Murray. I don't know. But Lemieux is unhappy. And one thing I've learned is Mario, though a very gifted hockey player, is also a very gifted intellectual. He didnt like something, and I trust his judgement.
  18. The laughing would only stop if Regis led them to a Cup... Lol
  19. They're watching because they have a group of young defensemen to sign and Weber's contract already. If they're strapped for cash they're watching closely too, so they get the best bang for their buck. Either way, they're not taking Lecavalier for Josi.
  20. The docs I have to sit in with say that's one indicator but not a guarantee. There can be permanent injury without any physical indicators.
