  1. @OH1FlyersFan No way. They need to lose out and Bryz almost guarantees that.... TOP 5 PICK OR BUST
  2. @DaGreatGazoo Hartnell is probably the worst contract that stupid Paul doled out. I don't like the Bryz or Briere deal, but at least they were sold on talent. Hartnell is just a... well, you get the drift here. Nice guy, great in the locker room, yada, yada. So sick of this mentality. I'd buy out Paul Holmgren and let the rest of the problems figure themselves out.
  3. I think at a reduced cost, he is a good vet presence and fit. He plays hard, rarely takes a shift off and plays defensively well. The only concern is his health issues. Other than that, if they can get him around 2mm a year for 2-3 years, than I am absolutely fine with it.
  4. @AlaskaFlyerFan Wow, no kidding. I guess anything is possible, but it just doesn't seem right to play in that kind of heat (Las Vegas)
  5. Ducks vs. Kings at Dodger Stadium, Jan. 25" How exactly is this going to work???? I like the idea though.
  6. @murraycraven The thing that I like is he is cheap and the Flyers have a lot of time to develop him since there is a log jam at center. I agree with the right line mates he could be a great addition to the team. I'd like to see a a young winger and a vet play along side him. If they opted to re-up Gagne (vet presence) and acquired a decent net presence forward (like Hartnell, but can skate), I think he'll be set. The way I look at it is, all it will take is a very bounces to go his way and the kid will be on fire.
  7. @OccamsRazor "Nurse hopefully has a meaner steak than it look like Donnie ever had..." I sure hope so.
  8. @OccamsRazor Even Vick looks embarrassed lol
  9. @activestick He can be traded after this season, but the probability is low since a very large sum was paid this season. Bonus $$ and salary, I believe is in the neighborhood of 28mm. In any case, I kicked it around (Weber) in another thread, but I think he'll cost much more than he would have prior to the offer sheet. I would imagine several picks, and L.Schenn and Couturier. Similar to the Pronger trade IMO.
  10. I am trying to wrap my head around this thread. Seriously, not trying to be a jerk, but isn't it a little odd to single out one player on this entire team? Looking back (and with the help of the internets) let's see how other #1 eighth over all draft picks panned out: 1) Alex Burmistrov (not too much happening there) 2) Scott Glennie (BUST) 3) Mikkel Bodker (respectable, but not tearing it up) 4) Zach Hamill (AHL) 5) Peter Mueller (may have finally found himself in Florida) 6) Devin Setoguchi (one good year in SJ) With that said, at the cost of Couturier and the potential upside, I highly doubt he should be moved. Let's see what he has next season with some permanent line mates before jumping to the bust conclusion.
  11. Wait Coatsey + Dornhoefer + Jackson have been re-united in the booth? Now that was the dark days of Flyers broadcasting.
  12. That is rough to hear. In any case it may be good for the guy to rest and get focused for next season. If ever there was a season to under perform, this seems to be the one. Trust me, my roster has a plethora of injuries and under achievers. Maybe the Flyers and Sabres can swap Myers for Couturier????
  13. They should do an episode of Coatsy's Corner regarding this. This just goes to show how stupid the Pfilthy Media really is. On a slow day, $hit a slow month, this is a non-story. I heard that Bryz switched lanes on I-76 in route to a practice and didn't even use a turn signal.... #compliance_buy_out
  14. When I saw the title I immediately thought of this sound bite. http://www.audiomicro.com/tracks/dialog/659230
  15. @pilldoc That is a good observation Pill. I too hope that I am way off base, I just have an eerie hunch that we're selling the farm for a defender this summer. I wouldn't mind Drouin regardless though. He is a beast.
  16. I would imagine Laugton would get a shot on the 4th line and Talbot would slide to center. After a lot of careful thought I want nothing to do with Weber due to the length, but I have a feeling that the brass is going to hurt this team bad. I could see forward lines of: UFA-Giroux-Voracek Hartnell-UFA(Maybe Bozak)-Simmonds Gagne (restructured)- Talbot- Read McGinn-Laughton-Rinaldo Defense Combos: Weber-Schenn Coburn-Grossmann Timonen-Mezaros Gervais Bryzgalov Mason Not wishing this at all. I'd keep Schenn and Couturier all day long, I just have a feeling about this one.
  17. I think you go with Mason only because it would be nice to see how he plays through adversity. Truth be told, I think Bryz is back next year as there really ins't any other options on the table that would come cheap. Side note: I think Holmgren trades for Weber in the off season. Rinne's numbers are great and theit D is decent, but they couldn't buy a goal to save their lives. I am fully prepared to see D. Briere bought out and Couturier along with Schenn traded to acquire Weber. Basically the same trade the Holmgren nixed (allegedly) last summer. Sorry to see it happen, but that's where I am at with this. Anyhow, I do digress, I want to see Mason for three reasons: 1) to see how he handles the pressure cooker 2) to show that the Flyers are committed to change 3) to finally put this disastrous season behind me
  18. Apparently falling asleep at team meetings is frowned upon.....Well, don't tell my employer that.... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/bryzzzzz-ilya-bryzgalov-benched-falling-asleep-flyers-team-163953628--nhl.html
  19. @FD19372 "The thing that scares me about that is I'm not sure that managment knows what a very good goalie looks like." It could be raining good goalies and they'd get hit with the Leightons on the world. I have a strong feeling that Homer will do something drastic to sure up the D in the off-season. Right now I am not too sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
  20. I didn't know he was on the 2010 Vancouver Canadian Gold team. Humph, I must have missed that one. Anyhow, welcome back cupcake. Watch the boards homie, they're sharp....
  21. @ruxpin You are 100% spot on with your analysis. I just remember thinking during the 06-07 season when they hired Luuko, that we were going to be the Sabres South. Lo and behold, they trade for Marty Biron (which is a move that I didn't hate, just thought it was 4 years too late, and they ink the ice princess Briere to a monster contract). We got smaller and tied up a lot of cap on what was not a complete team. They went for the $$$$$$$ band-Aid instead of building around what they had growing on the farm (Carter and Richards). Then, it becomes apparent that the suspect defense isn't capable of stopping the Penguins. Fast forward a few months and along comes Chris Pronger. Not a bad move if it was handled properly, but to me it seemed like they saw the Bruins roster and thought how can we be more like them? After a few years and several bad contracts we were able to rid that Sabre-esque stench off the roster and had a nice little cup run. Too bad they blew up the core and created a new blueprint. Now we sit with several bad contracts, a coach that doesn't have the tools to compete night in and night out, an anemic defense (mind you I think it is better than the Rathje Hatcher tandem days) and a goalie that knows he is on the brink of getting bought out. I surely hope that the next team they try to emulate has a little more self respect than the current roster.
  22. "It is high time we built a robust team that can steamroller all comers rather than trying to figure out how to build a team to beat whomever knocked us of the playoffs last year. (How many friggin years have we done that now?)" It's funny you say that, I have been preaching the same thing since they were bounced in 2006. It seems like they tried to emulate Buffalo after the whole lockout. Then they chased Boston. Now my biggest fear is that they will try and copy the Islanders and sign every head case goalie out there and suck for 30 years.
  23. @ruxpin Before you sell that land, I have a great timeshare in Fallujah that I am trying to unload.
  24. what a beast. HOMER SIGN HIM AT ONCE!!!!! Did you see his pre-game warm-up? The man is an animal. I heard he can even do a strong side cross-over; which is more than Hartnell can do
  25. @flyercanuck That's a tough crowd over there..... I laughed, I cried, I rejoiced our Savior; Steven Mason. However, much like another messiah, I fully expect him (Mason) to be crucified before his stay is over in Philly.
