I haven't looked at this at all, but has the ballot been published? Who were the four that were supposedly better? Was Draisaitl one of them? I wonder, too, if the thought was (wrongly) that McDavid had Draisaitl while whomever the other four were clearly dominated their team so were more "stand alone" MVPs. They're RFAs. This is NOT a hockey move; it's an accounting move. Don't be surprised if neither are resigned or are to a minimal contact. These aren't fantasy moves where production is the thing that matters.

This was completely about cap and reducing term. That's it. No other rationale and nothing else to see here. It was not about player or what he could bring. It's so abundantly clear and has to be among the top reasons he doesn't want to come. It has to suck to be traded and know that NEITHER team actually wants you and that you're just a general ledger entry. Seriously, this is Hartnell for Umberger and nothing more. It has nothing to do with Krug and had everything to do with his term vs Hayes & Sanheim's.

I don't think this was about actually wanting Krug. His term is shorter than Hayes so the idea was the Flyers could get out from the cap hit several years earlier. Aside from not wanting to go to the stink hole that currently is the Flyers, my guess is that Krug also knows he's not actually wanted and that upon his arrival both fans and front office will be counting the days until he leaves. Best case, actually, would be if he were Ellis 2.0 because then we LITR him and don't worry about his cap.
