hf101
Panthers trade Kris Versteeg and forward Phillippe Lefebrve to the Blackhawks for D-man Dylan Olsen and winger Jimmy Hayes http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=675589&navid=nhl:topheads
ruxpin
Eh. i know i'm supposed to be impressed, but I've never really been a fan of Versteeg. Doesn't really seem like a "big" trade to me. What do you think?

What do you think? The big thing is they gave up essentially nothing this year, Hayes and Olsen are meh prospects who were not part of the 2013-14 Hawks plans. Versteeg bringing back Versteeg might bring a spark back to him and if so a solid unspectacular 2nd/3rd pair forward for not very much is a no brainer. A classic low risk high reward deal.

Yeah, agreed. And Tampa is paying part of the salary, correct? Either way you're right, but if they are doing part of the salary it even makes it more so. Zero risk for Bowman another reason he got my vote as the best GM in the game.
DaGreatGazoo
Versteeg on that team, at half price, is a good move IMO. I think his issue is mental/motivational. Toews won't let him get away with that BS in Chicago.
jammer2
Verstink has been moved 5 times in 3 years for a reason.
Chicago Hawkie
Hmm ... very interesting. Leave it to Stan Bowman to pull a move like this off.

Agreed and I think this is very likely to pay off for them. On that team he produces and his production really wasn't that bad away from Chicago either. In his first four seasons he had 53, 44, 45, and 54 points respectively. 12-13 was terrible for him, but his numbers aren't even that bad this year. He's already got 3 points on Chicago, was on pace for 32 points while barely playing in Florida, and that's going to go up now that he's back in Chicago. I predict something along the lines of his first four seasons.
