another reason I hate Crosby

Recommended Posts

@flyercanuck

Hartnell falls down when noone is around him. That isn't diving, that's just lousy skating. LeCavalier, since he joined the Flyers, is too busy doing nothing to dive. Has Giroux dove. Yes, I already admitted several Flyers have. But only a Pens fan will say Crosby isn't one of the premier divers in the league. He doesn't do it as much as he used to.... Cause it would take up all his time. You don't have the fanbases of EVERY other team calling out Giroux. You DO have them calling out Crosby. I admit he's the best player in the world, and always have. You could admit he's also one of the worst divers in the league, and always was.

I don't think he's any worse than any other star players. For every time he goes down soft I see a time where he easily could but battles through it trying to score. For every instance someone says he went easy I hear announcers compliment him on his leg strength and how he battles through the clutch and grab so many teams, including yours, employ to slow him down. Yes he takes a dive here and there, but I see Giroux, Perry, Toews, and a number if other all star caliber players do the same thing to ensure the officials notice the penalties. Was it worse his first couple years? Absolutely. But now it's just old tears from folks with less and less to point a finger at.

Funny, I never even mentioned Sids crying....it's all right we're sick of it too.

Any thread about him with Flyers fans devolves into it at some point. I've made a point of watching out if genuine interest. So far against the Blues, after one period we have officials 5, Sid 2. Lol.

I have to agree with @Lunatic.

Why is this thread still alive?  Seriously?   The original intend was discussing an action Crosby had with Hartnell after a good check/hit.  As I said before...I did not have have a problem before and I still don't have a problem with it now.  Seriously folks time to move along............

This thread could easily be retitled.... "Why I hate ___________. "

Every fan base always has one player they severely dislike more than any others.  For the vast majority of Flyers fans it is Crosby.

Like I said....this thread has run its course....time to move along.

If you look back at the post that started the thread, it was another (cough cough) "incident" involving Crosby that was something that happens in every NHL game.

Wayne Simmonds does that and he sticking up for a teammate. Crosby does it an he's a whiny bah blah blah...even more if he does it against the Flyers.

Every team had idiot fans. Every fan has a player or players they love to hate. But there's a sizable number of Flyers fans that take it to another level when it comes to Crosby. Maybe if you didn't cry wolf so much (like this thread) you'd be taken more seriously and your reputation as the whiniest fan base in the NHL might dissolve a bit.

In this case, the Pens fans were right and the better of the Flyers fans here agreed.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you speak for everyone. Who the **** are you to say the better of fans? So because I'm not groveling and kissing your rings I'm a bad fan? Have fun with those PA tax dollars, taking blood money to stick around a little longer. Your team almost left to Kansas City of all idiotic places because your fan base is garbage.

Crosby whines and dives. Period. That doesn't mean no one else does, don't make it more than it needs to be. I'm not apologizing for Flyers who do it, and am not asking you to do it either.

Hartnell incident, no issue. Coburn incident, huge issue.

I will not suck up to you or your "fanbase". Maybe Flyers fans whine because they actually get wronged, or maybe because there are more of them - unconditionally at that. Fred Shero. NHL marketing the team as the bullies still. Refs calling penalties on guys getting a high stick in the face. Sometimes it's the name on the back, sometimes the crest on the front, and sometimes both. When Briere arrived, even he said he'd never been called for little things as much before.

Enjoy your golden goose while he lasts. Once he's done, your fans will leave, again. They can't whine when they don't exist.

Recently though...

Recently though, the Flyers have won three straight.  You don't get anymore recent thann that.  Season series wrapped up with a potential date to meet in the second round.

And I don't recall any Flyer sitting on his rump with his skates and arms waiving in the air begging for a call rather than jump up and get into the play, ala the Crosby incident which birthed this thread.  Hartnell might hit the deck a lot, but he doesn't whine about it.

I that's what you feel you have to hang your hat on, you got it. Yet another successful Flyers season for you! Congrats!

As for you don't remember, that's some selective memory there...

Who? Someone who's been around long enough to have an opinion on who tends to be objective and who tends not to.  Oh - casino dollars and the Pens built CONSOL. Not tax dollars. See what I mean?.  Kansas City was a leverage move - nothing to do with the fan support (or supposed lack of). Again - see what I mean? Hate the Pens. Rant all you want.  But don't act surprised or offended if you say something completely inaccurate and the Pens fans here point it out.

Huh? I haven't even brought up Hartnell or Coburn in this thread.

No one is sucking up - or expecting you to "suck up".  If you want to complain or criticize the get your facts right.

Like the post that started this thread or like what you said earlier about how our arena was funded or about the "move" to Kansas City or how our fan base is "garbage" (we aren't the best but certainly not even close to being the worst).  If I started a thread about how the Flyers are the dirtiest team in hockey or how their Cups aren't "deserved" because they gooned their way to winning or how your own fan base is overrated because you can't sell out even when you are good there would be 50 responses countering those points before I hit "submit post".

If you think you can just rant away with bogus comments and expect the Pens fans here to turn a blind eye you came to the wrong place. It happened here.  Someone made a mountain our of a molehill (because it's Crosby) and you own fans called him out on it. That's what happens in forums.

Deal or move on.

Ooohhh, I'm so scared. I've been here a while too, and you're generally an antagonist.

If you're bored, Google pens arena tax dollars.

Time for you to get your facts straight. Plus, slots that the govt collects revenue from is still govt money. Given to you.

There were two recent Crosby incidents, and I mentioned the Flyers involved. We were on the same page there earlier I think.

You can deal or move on. And drop the high and mighty crap while you're at it.

If defending your team or fans makes me antagonizing then guilty as charged.  If you have free time, try and find a thread I started where I went on a balls to the wall rant about another team in which most of what I said was BS.  Heck - just find a thread where I went on a balls to the wall rant.

As for the tax dollars....

I stand corrected.  $19 million of a $306 million project or 6%. The shame.  The rest - as I said - paid by the Pens and from casino revenue. Not from tax money on the casino but direct from casino revenue.

From your own link...

A spokesman for Rendell said the $290 million arena project will be financed exactly the way officials said it would be in March -- with a $290 million bond issue to finance construction -- to be repaid by the Pens and with revenues from casino gambling.

Next time try not to sound like the state footed the bill for the whole dang thing.

Have fun with those PA tax dollars, taking blood money...

You may not have won a Cup in 40 years but at least you can hang your hat on your arena being 100% tax dollar free while CONSOL was 94% tax dollar free. Congrats.

That was a quick Google from my phone pointing to an article from 2007. I'm reasonably confident it's more, plus tax rebates, etc. Maybe I'll dig more later.

A quick Google shows tax dollars significantly funded PNC Park, Heinz Field, the Linc and CBP as well.

http://triblive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/penguins/s_692798.html#axzz2wtkH51A1

Final taxpayer tab was $47.6 million of a final $321,000,000 budget or just under 15%. Oooh.

I'll stick with my "If 100% versus now 85% makes you feel better about your team..."

Of course, if you follow the Eagles and Phillies as well then you can take the "Our arena didn't cost the tax payers anything..." soap box and stick it you know where.

Wasn't sure. Continue to rant about tax payer dollars funding arenas. It's clearly an issue in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

You're desperately grasping at straws after the counter to the factually incorrect rant. The points are, Crosby whines and dives, Pens fans can't support an arena by themselves, and your aggressive defense was wrong.

Oh wait - the fact that the gazillion dollar Comcast Specator (owned by super-gazillion dollar Comcast) built a new arena means that Flyers fans can support a new arena all by themselves and Pens fans can't.

LOL. Whatever makes 40 years more palatable....

(And yes - Crosby whines and dives.)

Still private investment, with enough to spare that they rehab community rinks. That's how to contribute to society instead of draining from it.

I'm sure they designated every dollar from every share purchased by Flyers fans to go towards the WF.  And the Pens make noooooooooooo charitable contributions to society?  Okee!  Who's reaching now?

Making charitable contributions with house money is a joke. I didn't say the Pens don't do anything in their community, just implied that it isn't only their money.

And who cares if it's only 15% of Comcast money going to the Flyers? It's private money. They EARNED it.

Someone needs an economics lesson.

But - I just can't continue that insanely irrelevant argument any more.  I can't believe you took this to "My team is more charitable - na na na na na na..."

I concede - your team is a bit more charitble than mine.  The "Most Charitable" trophy is yours.  I'll even concede the "Best Fans" and "Coolest Power Play Nickname".

I'll take the Cups.

Taking your puck and going home?

Read up on finance while you're at it.

The Cups absolutely matter, but you're a hypocrite saying one low blow is worse than another.

You're not comprehending what I'm typing. Re-read this mess and hopefully it'll make a little more sense. You kept making personal attacks and pretending to be on the defensive while saying I'm factually inaccurate and various other similar remarks. Did you really think I would just sit there and take it? Back to your forum.

Go back and see for yourself. You overreacted to my saying Flyers fans don't need to kiss up to Pens fans just because we say Crosby dives. I just didn't back down.

I'm very aware I didn't help matters, mind you. But I know I can be an argumentative dick.

Ha!  Hearing every word.  Props to you for not backing down...whatever that refers to.

Yes - I took issue with your "Alter of Crosby..." comments.  Like I said in my very first post to you....this thread was started with some inoccuous incident involving Crosby and trying to turn that into incident into more than it was.  Something I said all along...it's not enough to hate; some fans have to make shite up.  The better....yes BETTER...of the Flyers fans here quickly tossed aside what the OP was trying to do.  YOU took issue with that. Heaven forbid someone be objective like those Flyers fans were.

The rest of this thread is nothing more than you taking at shot at just about everything else Penguins because you lose the only argument that really matters...Cups.

Taxpayer money towards arenas? Charitable contributions?  Good Lord.
