ruxpin
http://www.tsn.ca/wings-acquire-zidlicky-from-devils-1.220115 Marek Zidlicky, Andy Marlin/National Hockey League/Getty Images The New Jersey Devils have traded defenceman Marek Zidlicky to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. In 63 games with the Devils this season, Zidlicky has scored four goals and 19 assists. The 38-year-old is currently on a one-year deal with a cap hit of $4 million.Originally selected in the sixth round (176th overall) by the New York Rangers at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Zidlicky has scored 82 goals and 308 assists in 762 career NHL games with the Devils, Nashville Predators and Minnesota Wild. The Czech blueliner has represented his nation internationally on multiple occasions, including three Olympic Games (2006, 2010, 2014) and winning gold and bronze at the IIHF World Championships (2005 and 2011, respectively). JackStraw
Minimal cost too. Nice move for Detroit.
WingNut722
This is the right-handed defensemen Detroit has been looking for. We have Marchenko who is just a rookie, but having a competent, veteran blueliner with a right hand shot will go a long way. And for a third round pick? That's pennies on the dollar for someone like Zidlicky. Very excited about this move!
hf101
Final deal for Zidlicky: 3rd rounder in 2016. If Wings go to EC final, add a 5th in 2015. If go to SC final, 5th back to Det, becomes a 2nd.
yave1964
Holy cow! Zidlicky is exactly what the Wings needed, along with Cole the Wings have went all in. All three teams in the division added a d-man, Petry to Montreal, Zidlicky to Detroit and Coburn to the Lightning. Of the three Zidlicky, for this year is the one I would want. Throw in Cole and an easy schedule down the stretch and the division is within our grasp. Hope the Wings bust butt and somehow pull the division out and get Boston/Florida/whoever in the first round and let Montreal and Tampa beat each other up. Happy to be a Wings fan now. yave1964
@WingNut722 We managed to: Add a power forward and a right handed defenseman who runs the point and a third rounder for: A second round pick this year and a third rounder next year and two mediocre prospects. So if the thirds are looked at as a wash, and the two prospects, Backman and Nylen are 80, 90 percent likely to never play a minute in the NHL, it means the Wings added Cole and Zidlicky for a second rounder. And The Devils retained 1 million dollars of Zidlicky's salary. And our depth is now incredible as we didn't give up a roster player. Wow. Yes, both are UFA at the end of the year, both are on the wrong side of 30, but they are smart veterans who may help us get over the hump. Tickled to death with the past 24 hours. Feels like Chrsitmas.
WingNut722
Yes, both are UFA at the end of the year, both are on the wrong side of 30, but they are smart veterans who may help us get over the hump. The hallmark of the Red Wings organization the last 10 years It's really the ability that counts. It keeps the team strong and successful, and the younger guys get additional experience to learn from. The options are endless now, and you'll see some serious competition for ice time these days. Seems that Detroit is becoming the place to play hockey one again. Should the Wings go deep in the playoffs, this may also attract some more attention from the big free agents come July 1.
