Never to soon to start talking about the up and coming prospects for the 2017 NHL Amateur Draft in June 2017. Of course this list will probably change drastically over the course of the next 6 months or so, but it is at least an obvious starting point.

I am hoping to have all discussion about prospects in one spot. I am also hoping this thread will become a great reference point when discussing individual teams draft needs. so without further adieu........

Some good resourcess:

This kid would be a good pick for the Flyers. Not sure they can finish low enough to get him...

6-5 205 and still growing. Needed size down the middle.

His 5 on 5 production is terrible...that's a bit of a red flag...especially with this team.

No matter what we have to think they go forward with the 1st pick....right?

Unless there's clearly defence better...even then I'd try and trade up if that looked like it was going to happen.

Yes, it looks like this will be a draft where there will be little to distinguish between the 5th pick and the 25th pick. No real dynamic players. You could see teams trading to move down.

On the other hand, there are always a few guys who come on late and create some buzz. Like Sanheim sorta did in his draft year. A player like that could rocket up the draft lists this year.

Glass at 19???? He looks like a top 10 pick in this draft.

Interesting, obviously just a stab in the dark mock and all, but this particular one has Glass going at #16 to the Flyers. Who knows where the Flyers will eventually pick, where Glass will go, but interesting to see his name beside the Flyers symbol.

Has anyone seen Nikata Popugaguve play in the WHL? I saw him play in the prospects game, but he never really stood out. Still, the biggest winger available in the first round. Why is he ranked in the second half of the first round, for a 6'5 kid with offensive upside, you would think he would be higher. Does he have skating deficiencies?

If Cody Glass, Martin Necas or Elias Pettersson aren't available when the Flyers pick, I hope that Nick Suzuki is someone they look at. I watched Owen Sound and Kitchener last night and he was all over the ice last night. He's got a bit of Giroux in his game with the way he plays. He's got a non-stop motor, has high end offensive skill to go along with defensive acumen. I know that his skating seems to be a question mark (he's a good skater, but he doesn't have a top gear so to speak) and his size is questionable (5-10, 185 pounds), but he's solid and he plays in high traffic areas.

I  have seen Suzuki a few times, came away impressed. There is quite a few late first round (or early 2nd) OHL centers ranked for this year. Suzuki is the best of them. Others guys worth mentioning, Frost from the Sault, Thomas from London to name a few. Suzuki is by far the best of this crew. Like you said, he goes to the tough areas, has better wheels than the other guys and is more creative. Close, but Suzuki is also the best skater.

This particular mock has Suzuki going 6th to Dallas. I'm sure he has worked his way up, but almost top 5....that seems a tad high. One guy who seems to low on this mock is Formenten from the Knights. Earlier in the year, he was a C, but they list him as a LW. I've only seen video of him, but Poehling from St.Cloud State looks very effective and should be there when the Flyers pick.

I can't speak to the Suzuki ranking, but that mock is noticeable to me for how far down the two Finnish Dmen (Jokiharju, Vaakanainen) are. Also, Grant Mismash is a great hockey name. Do you suppose his nickname is Mishy, Mashy, or Mushy?

Yeah, saw the, Mismash IS a great name!  One D man I saw a lot of this season is the Sault's Timmons. He is ranked anywhere from mid to the end of the 1st. Great vision and skills, but the skating is very awkward. Don't know if he can make an effective jump to the NHL....or if he will be an offenisve force there. The vision may help him, but I'm skeptical.

Mismash is a good name...but Nando Eggenberger is the best name in this draft.

I've started my prospects research in preparation for my fall keeper draft. So I may post my thoughts in this thread.

Right now I'm looking at this big Russian kid, ranked 54th right now by one service and taken 53rd in @jammer2's mock draft (above), Artyom Minulin.

6'2" 200 lbs RD in his second year with Swift Current in the WHL. 50 pts in 70 GP, +28. That's not too bad for an 18 year old D-man in the WHL. For comparison purposes Provorov had 61 pts in 60 GP, +36 in his draft year in the Dub.

Hockey News article on him this week: http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/prospect-need-to-know-a-russian-on-the-prairie

Wouldn't he look nice paired with Provy in a few years? He's definitely one to watch. I could see him rising to an early 2nd rounder.

Don't know anything about him, but sounds like one to watch after the first round. Pretty sure they don't take a goalie or d man in the 1st, but after that, it's BPA.
