  1. Combination of shaky PP and shaky Holtby gave the Flyers what they needed and Orange Haze made no mistake..
  2. Coots played that PK and the ensuing shift with a bit of snarl. But he may have taken things a bit too far.... got caught slashing.
  3. Nice Coutourier. Not only ragged off time, but got in a good shot shorthanded on Holtby. Caps looking a bit sleepy on this PP.
  4. Man...Vorobyev with the unnecessary delay of game penalty. Capitals to the PP.... The Fly playing with fire here. Hart has been sharp, but you just don't wanna hand out golden opportunities like this, especially to a team like Washington. PK has their work laid out for them.
  5. Not that I condone players taking sticks to other players faces, but ironic that Wilson is usually the one doling out questionable contact. Tellin ya...Myers just wants to be a dentist!
  6. Well, I see Panik is back on the ice, so apparently his misconduct was probably something verbal to an official rather than something to get himself ejected.
  7. Myers practicing some dentistry on ol Tom Wilson? Maybe Myers just doesn't want to be an elf anymore.... haha... PP Caps however...
  8. LOL.... Gudas starting some stuff up against his former mates.... but he was smiling as he was doing it, as was Hagg. Looked like a couple frat boys jostling around...
  9. I realize CokeNetsov is a good skater, but no way he should have been allowed to carry the puck from his own end and to take a pretty good shot from the lower circles on Hart. Flyers need to start either taking the body better, or be accurate with the stick checks. and now some rough stuff...
  10. I must have missed it when I went to the kitchen, but what did Richard Panik do to earn himself a misconduct? I was about to post that the Caps had been using the physical play extensively in the first, when I saw they had 12 PIMs but yet the Flyers only had the one PP.
  11. Thank you @intheslot , I probably should have included the projected lineups at the start.
  12. Not a bad overall first period. Trading a pair of goals against one of the more potent offenses in the league. And two of the goals, the one by Konecny the other by Backstrom, were things of beauty. Hard for either goalie to do anything about.
  13. Didn't see one of these GDT posted, I happen to be watching the game tonight, so thought I'd set one up for the Flyer fans and myself to post in. Tried to follow the title format used so often by @Howie58 to stay consistent, but of course, the interior decorator in me NEEDED to have a picture or wallpaper of some sort! Anyways, Capitals widely considered the top team in the East right now, Flyers should be firm underdogs in this one. Caps are riding a 3 game win streak entering tonight and winners of 6 of their last 10.....BUT, Braden Holtby has looked shaky even during this stretch of theirs. Perhaps something the Flyers can take advantage of. Flyers are playing about .500 hockey the last 10 games (5-4-1), coming off a tough OT loss to the Canes last game out. Now, while the team seems to be trending downward a bit, they do sport a pretty nice home record of 13-2-4, so there is that. Travis Konecny looks as good as ever, and the whole team really can still produce at a reasonable level...… they just need to tune down what they give up. Philadelphia can sure use a jolt though from their top guys and the PP in general. As I said...Holtby has looked very human and Capitals' penalties being converted into Flyer goals would go a long way to help restore the confidence of the Orange n Black.
  14. Congrats @Hockey Junkie , you got the guy you wanted at the NHL level. Will be up to him to show he belongs there for good now. And yes, a McCabe injury opened the door for him. From the looks of the Sabres defensive alignment, Buffalo is looking to pair a vet with a younger player. Defensive pairings look a bit wonky to me (mainly because Buffalo still doesn't have an established #1 d-man), but I do agree with their strategy of pairing dynamic young player with a more seasoned player as shown below (courtesy of Dailyfaceoff).
  15. The obvious thing here would be to trade Georgiev. IDEALLY, you'd get Lundqvist to agree to waive and find him a nice home on a contender somewhere and go with the tandem of Georgiev and Shesterkin and may the best goalie claim the crease and the Rangers can further along their rebuild. But King Henrik has stated on many occasions he wishes to be a life long Ranger and will go through a rebuild with the team if necessary, so unless the Rangers are looking to trade Shesterkin (highly unlikely), then it may be Georgiev on the move. They could try the three headed monster thing in net, but I think it has been proven over and over that really doesn't work at the NHL level. Georgiev has been mostly positive in his NHL tenure. Still not quite starter material, but would make an excellent student/backup on a deeper team, or even better, a team like Ottawa, New Jersey, or Detroit would LOVE to have a young promising goalie under 25 to give starts to so that he may possibly become starter material. Putting aside that disastrous start against Edmonton and a start against Toronto before that, he has been solid, just like he was in his last outing against Vancouver. I'd give him another start or two, see if he continues to play well, then sell high on him to try and maximize his value in any return.
  16. Battle of the Red Hots! Lethal PP vs lethal PP Skill and toughness vs skill and toughness And all high octane speed. Canukcs visit Tampa for a date with the Lightning and both teams, riding 7-game winning streaks are looking for the big 8 and continued rise in the standings. At a glance, Jacob Markstrom looks like he would definitely be the "lesser' of the goalies (Vasilevskiy on the other side), but Markstrom is having himself one hell of a season and while he started out in a timeshare with Thatcher Demko, has evolved into THE workhorse for Vancouver. Should be a fun game, and I have NO idea what style these guys may play as either club can play a variety of ways. Credit to the Vancouver coaching staff that they have the mostly young team playing as well and as versatile as they have. They continue to hang right up there with Vegas, Edmonton, and Arizona. Seems there is a bit of a "change of the guard" over in the Pacific and the young teams are taking over. Vancouver is as good, maybe better, than the other new young guns in the Pacific.
  17. The red hot Canucks visit the red hot Lightning. Something's gotta give. JT Miller, former Bolts player who was acquired from the NY Rangers along with Ryan McDonagh will play against the Bolts since being traded. Miller has taken full advantage of his regular top six status and is having a career year with the Canucks. Contrast that with what he was doing with TB (very average numbers and all over the map in terms of where he was playing on a nightly basis), and one can easily see how the change of scenery has benefitted him (and Vancouver) greatly. Miller was always a team guy and he continues to be that with Vancouver, but his game also has a bit of an edge to it and I am interested in seeing how much of that edge he lets loose on some of his former mates tonight. No doubt he is pumped and like any player traded, wants to show his former organization they made a mistake, so I expect nothing but the best from him. The Lightning have a chance to win their 8th straight game and doing it against a team like Vancouver, even though they have lots of young players, still have enough veterans and skill, to legitimize the Bolts as FINALLY playing to their potential (well, still not fully, but hell of a lot better than what we saw most of the first half)….and that their rise in the standings is no fluke or product of "just a hot streak". Andrei Vasilevskiy gets the start tonight and he will definitely need to be sharp as he faces down Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat, Hughes, Miller and the rest of the surging Canucks, who themselves have a 7-gamer going (battle for who gets their 8th tonight!). This game might even be quite physical. TB has really started to emphasize the rough play this season and have the personnel to do it with Paquette, Maroon, Schenn, McDonagh, Palat, Cirelli, Killorn, Joseph....and even Stamkos has gotten in on the physical play. But Vancouver, especially now that they have gotten some healthy bodies back, are no slouch in that department if they need to utilize it. Roussel, Edler, Virtanen, Miller, Motte, and Beagle right off the top of my head. Looking forward to this one. Skilled contest with some smash n bash mixed in. Heads on swivels boys...
  18. "Slow but gradual progress".... it wasn't bad, but just not good enough for an expected SC contender. Really...I feel the players should be ashamed of themselves here. Or, I wonder if NOT having a guy on the back end like Subban hurt them more than people realized at first. Sure, Subban hasn't done jack in New Jersey, but perhaps that trade hurt both the team and player. Subban was part of a very, very good top 4 defense core in Nashville, then was expected to be a savior in NJ. And that solid top 4 helped out the goalies....well, you know, an entire chain reaction of unfortunate events for Nashville. And Laviolette, good a coach as he can be, paid the price.
  19. Maybe its just me, but I've come to expect, in the sports business, when a GM or owner goes out of their way to say their couch (or GM) is safe....usually means he ISN'T... When I am angry about something...I tell my husband "everything is fine"..... uh huh.... he follows sports....he knows the deal.
  20. This firing truly feels like one where the underperforming players cost their coach his job. High expectations for the Predators, losing a high profile game (in a Dallas comeback fashion) against a division rival, and hanging around the standings with Chicago and Minnesota will do that though. Without really knowing all the behind the scenes details, seems to me it wasn't a case of "bad coaching".... Laviolette seemed to coach the way he always had..... but the players themselves just weren't executing. Goalies, defensemen, poor production from forwards, throw in injuries in there....all seem to conspire to behead Laviolette. As the old saying goes... easier to fire one guy (or two guys in this case, as the assistant was shown the Zamboni door as well) than 25. Maybe this is Poile's way of shaking things up? I also find it ironic that the OP article linked and one on NHL . com, have upper management with nothing but praise for Laviolette, his wife and his whole family for contributions to the Preds as an organization. Yes, I know...this is a results driven business, and Nashville wasn't really getting the ones they were expecting, but still.... "Peter and his wife have done so much for our organization and the community.....but now you have to go on the unemployment line" For the sake of whatever interim they put in there, let's see if the players are shamed enough to raise their game....knowing Laviolette needn't have been fired if they had played like the expected playoff team they are supposed to be.
  21. Jordan Greenway vs like 4 Calgary Flames.... Looked like Gulliver's Travels for a second there...
